November 6-8, 2021 • Omni Shoreham Hotel • Washington D.C.

After missing last year due to COVID-19, the Jump$tart National Educator Conference is back for its 12th year and we can’t wait to greet you in November at the historic Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. With immense thanks to this year’s conference underwriters – Experian, the National Endowment for Financial Education, and the Wells Fargo Foundation – as well as our many generous sponsors and scholarship providers, we’re looking forward to the opportunity to “Return, Reset, and Recommit to Financial Education.”

If you have attended the conference before, you will notice a few changes to the event – some necessitated by the pandemic and others as part of our dedication to keeping things fresh and trying out new ideas. But what remains the same – and will never change – is our commitment to a robust professional development experience with current information, best in class resources, and plenty of networking, as well as our chance to show appreciation to you, the teachers who bring personal finance to life in your classrooms, every day.

What’s NewIn 2021, #JumpstartNEC will focus on the changing world of consumer finance from cryptocurrency to financial technology to “FOMO” investing and behavioral finance. This is what your students are talking about – and we’re bringing in the experts to help you stay a step ahead. Elementary and Middle School Teachers: this is the world your students will inherit – perhaps sooner than we all expect – but you’ll have your own grade-appropriate discussion groups, too.

Return attendees will notice that instead of concurrent breakout sessions, we’ll have concurrent discussion groups – and then some new ways of introducing you to the latest resources. One of those ways – the Exhibit Hall – isn’t new; but this year, Exhibit Hall hours will be broken up throughout the day on Sunday, instead of condensed into a single session.

And note the new hashtag! Use #JumpstartNEC before, during, and after the conference to stay informed, connect with fellow participants, and share your experience with others.

COVID ConsiderationsBoth Jump$tart and the Omni Shoreham Hotel are committed to complying with health and safety rules and restrictions set by the CDC and the District of Columbia government. To participate, conference attendees – including guests – will need to provide evidence of their vaccination status or negative COVID-19 test results (taken within 72 hours of the event) and will be required to sign a participation waiver. Participants will also be required to wear masks while indoors, social distance, and comply with such other rules and restrictions. Important: Rules and restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and its variants are outside of Jump$tart’s control and may change at any time at Jump$tart’s sole discretion.

Teacher Scholarships and RegistrationFor teachers, the Jump$tart National Educator Conference is an all-scholarship event. Every teacher attends on a scholarship from Jump$tart – supported by our generous underwriters and sponsors, listed on page 8 – or on an independent scholarship from one of our official scholarship partners.

Important Next Steps:1. First round scholarship recipients are notified by September 10. Your notification will include a link to register for the conference

online. (Scholarships are non-transferrable.) Before you register:• Read through this brochure.• Carefully consider your travel plans and any travel restrictions that might pertain to you.

2. Teacher recipients accept their scholarships by registering for the conference online. The firm deadline to register is September 17.• Make a fully-refundable $100 deposit when you register. (See page 3 for additional details.)• Purchase a guest badge for your spouse or adult guest when you register. (Optional)• Reserve extra hotel nights when you register. (Optional)

3. Scholarships unclaimed by September 17 will revert to the scholarship pool, enabling Jump$tart to offer them to wait-listed applicants.4. Second round scholarship recipients will be notified September 20 – 24 on a rolling basis. Your notification will include a link to register for the conference online and a

registration deadline. (Scholarships are non-transferrable.) See additional information, above.

Guest RegistrationRegistered attendees have the option of purchasing a Guest Badge for their spouse or other adult guest for $125, which will enable the guest to attend all six meal functions. This event is not recommended for children and we’re sorry, but we are not able to offer a meal-by-meal option. Important: No guest badges will be sold onsite this year, so you must register your guest in advance. Guest badges do not include access to plenary sessions and discussion groups. Additionally, all guests will be required to sign a Participation Waiver and will be subject to the same rules and restrictions as other attendees.

The exhibit fee of $1,250 covers your exhibit space and a full conference registration, with meal events, for one representative. Saturday, November 6

Optional Pre-Conference Sessions• Orientation for First-Time Conference Attendees • 3:00-5:00 p.m.

If you’re joining us for the first time—or haven’t attended in a while—this special pre-conference orientation will help you make the most of your participation in #JumpstartNEC, as well as introduce you to some of what Jump$tart has to offer. Meet fellow first-times, teacher ambassadors, and members of the Jump$tart team – and let us show you some appreciation, Jump$tart style.

• Seeking Federal Dollars for your Classroom • 3:00-4:30 p.m. As part of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Congress established a $13.2 billion fund for Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER). ESSER funds are intended to support COVID-19 response efforts and may be spent on a wide range of allowable activities. Joel Chrisler, high school teacher and Jump$tart consultant, will lead this session on ways your school’s administration can request curriculum support and materials for your classroom.

Conference Registration • 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. Look for the Jump$tart National Educator Conference registration desk on the West Promenade level of the Omni Shoreham Hotel. You must provide your COVID-19 vaccination card or a negative COVID-19 test taken within the past 72 hours to obtain your conference name badge.

Welcome Reception and Dinner • 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Put your glad rags on and foxtrot back in time with us—we’ve called up the Jazz Age for an encore. In the Palladium Ballroom, we’ll harken back to the opening days of the Omni Shoreham Hotel for the official start of #JumpstartNEC. Our “giggle water” reception (no prohibition here!) will start at 6 p.m., followed immediately by dinner with our hosts Experian, NEFE, and the Wells Fargo Foundation – and our guests of honor… you! Of course, we’ll all be puttin’ on the Ritz in business, dinner, or period attire.

Fall BackAfter turning back the clock figuratively – don’t forget to turn back your clock for real! Daylight Savings Time comes to an end, reverting to Standard Time on Sunday morning.

Sunday, November 7

Conference Registration • 7:00 – 8:30 a.m.Look for the Jump$tart National Educator Conference registration desk on West Promenade level of the Omni Shoreham Hotel. You must provide your COVID-19 vaccination card or a negative COVID-19 test taken within the past 72 hours to obtain your conference name badge.

Breakfast • 7:00 – 8:15 a.m. Start the day with our informal, open-seating breakfast in the Ambassador Ballroom. Note: Due to pandemic-related restrictions, we anticipate possible changes in our breakfast plans. At the conference, watch for messages from “Flip,” our conference chat bot.

Opening Session • 8:30 – 9:00 a.m.Jump$tart Chairman Mike Staten and President/CEO Laura Levine will kick off the 2021 Jump$tart National Educator Conference program and set the stage for a full day of activities.

Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, and the Future of Digital Money • 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. In July 2017, Joel Comm went down the rabbit hole of blockchain technology with Martech leader Travis Wright. They took their excitement and channeled it into the creation of The Bad Crypto Podcast. Heard in 180 countries around in the globe, with over 400,000 downloads each month, the podcast provides an informative and entertaining take on the “blockchain revolution” that is changing the world. In this session, we’ll tap into the mind of Joel Comm, a functional futurist who doesn’t just predict the future, he gets there first.

Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, and the Future of Digital Money – Part 2 • 10:20 – 11:20 a.m. After Joel Comm leaves our heads spinning, we’ll want some time to deconstruct what we just heard, so teachers will move to breakout rooms for moderated discussion, contemplation, and guided introspection. (Check the conference app for your room assignments.) Discussion groups for middle and elementary school teachers will focus on grade-level appropriate resources and techniques.

Exhibit Hall • 11:20 a.m. – 12:20 p.m.Dedicated Exhibit Hall hours give you time to peruse the exhibits and network with fellow participants without having to “sneak out” of other sessions. Our exhibits are dedicated to financial education (no time-share promoters here!) and if you gather a few too many samples, the UPS Store will have a table inside to offer you options for sending resources home.

Luncheon • 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.Join us for lunch hosted by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Relax, network, and enjoy a midday meal. All registered participants are invited. After lunch, we’ll meet Spencer Chapman and learn about his personal journey with cryptocurrency. A mortgage broker now; Spencer was just 19 when he bought his first Bitcoin and will join us to share his insights.

Exhibit Hall • 2:15 – 3:15 p.m.Need more time in the Exhibit Hall? We’ve got you covered! Join us for the second of three Exhibit Hall sessions and don’t forget to enter the raffles at our Exhibitors’ booths.

Fintech, FOMO and New Financial Behaviors • 3:15 – 4:15 p.m.While financial principles remain pretty constant, financial products, services, and practices continue to evolve. There is little question that the recent explosion of “fin tech” resources has changed the financial landscape… but is it also changing financial behavior? And, what is the affect of FOMO (fear of missing out)? This afternoon plenary session will explore ways for you to help your students navigate this new reality.

Exhibit Hall • 4:15 – 5:30 p.m.Last chance to visit the Exhibit Hall, capped off by the Exhibitors Raffle at 5:15 p.m. You must be present to win.

The Anti-Virtual Party • 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.Ready to give virtual gatherings the boot? Yeah, us too! So we’ve planned an IRL (in real life) celebration with hugs, handshakes, and great food. (We’ll still do elbow bumps, if you prefer.) But, after a year-and-a-half of too little socializing… not sure what to wear to a party? No problem, because we’re going to give “Zoom attire” one last outing. Wear business on top; casual on the bottom! (Must wear bottoms; let’s keep this PG.)

Now What? • 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.After hearing the discussions and gathering the resources, after taking notes until our fingers were sore, we might find ourselves asking, “now what?” Gene Natali, Jump$tart Partner and author of The Missing Semester and The Missing Second Semester, will help us make sense of it all, so we return to school armed with information, ideas, and a plan to make it all work.
