The Institute of International Language

Dongguk University was established on May 8, 1906, and its goal is to cultivate elite students who will contribute to the realization of the

ideals of nation and human society based on the Buddhist spirit.

Celebrating its 116th anniversary in 2021, Dongguk University has a deep history and a position as an innovative educational institution

of Korean higher education, focusing on future-oriented and student-centered education. Dongguk University is located in the center

of Seoul. Currently, about 28,000 students study in Seoul, Gyeongju, and Goyang campuses. We also operate hospitals in Ilsan,

Gyeongju, and Bundang. Students at the College of Pharmacy, Biosystems College, Medical College, and College of Oriental Medicine

are studying at Goyang Campus.

The Korean class at the Institute of International Language of Dongguk University was founded in 2002 in order to help those who are

very interested in learning Korean.

Our Korean class consists of 6 levels in total and it includes the lessons of Korean culture and history. The institute has highly trained

teachers and we use Dongguk University’s own Korean textbook with well organized curriculum. Systemic and modern classes are

made considering the Korean learners’ level. Dongguk’s Korean course builds the best understanding of Korean and Korean culture.

Completing level 4 allows students to enter Dongguk University’s undergraduate program without needing TOPIK level 4.

We offer <cultural activities> and a global buddy program to improve students’ Korean skills and understanding of Korean culture.

You will also meet international students from the all around world.

Learn Korean together (함께 배워요 한국어), which is developed by Dongguk University, is the regular course book series of Institute of International Language in order to boost foreign students’ communication skills and Korean language ability.Based on 4 hours class per day, the textbook is organized for teaching and learning according to the flow of the class. The learners can take self-directed lessons with various exercises and task activities in the textbook.

Alphabet class, pronunciation class, grammar class and study room are designed to help students improve their language skills and achieve their personal goals

Korean volunteers, who are currently enrolled in Dongguk University, help international students who take Korean Language programs to understand Korean and Korean culture.

In addition to Korean classes there are various cultural activities which reflect students needs. Each term one cultural activity is organized for all students.

Students who enrolled regular program can apply for the dormitory on a first-come-first-served basis

Students can borrow books, search for information and utilize other resources in the central library of Dongguk University

• Beginner (level 1~2) : To acquire the basic language skills about daily life and intimate topics.

• Intermediate (level 3~4) : To provide learners with exercises and activities to move forward in their daily lives and understand social and cultural topics so that they can express their opinions freely

• Advanced (level5~6) : To have an in-depth understanding of academic and professional fields to improve the skills needed in universities (graduate school) by engaging students in activities such as debate, discussions, presentations, and reports.
