2021 sa mid-amateur inter-provincial tournament
TRANSCRIPT
On behalf of GolfRSA, it gives me great pleasure to
welcome all players and managers to one of the most
highly anticipated events on the amateur golfing calendar – the South African Mid-Amateur Inter-
Provincial Tournament.
As the golfing calendar returns to something a little more normal, I’d like to remind everyone to please follow
our risk mitigation guidelines that are in place to help
keep you safe.
Please maintain social distancing, wear your masks and
use sanitizer. Although we are now back to Lockdown
Level 1, we can’t afford to become complacent about the COVID-19 virus. To those who have lost family or
friends, my sincere condolences.
Good luck to the players this week. As I look through the
team names it is clear how competitive this section of
the amateur game has become and I expect a high level
of golf to be played at a fantastic venue.
I’d like to thank our hosts this week: the Limpopo Golf
Union and Elements Private Golf Reserve, as well as all
tournament organisers, for their hard work behind the
scenes in putting together this tournament.
Grant Hepburn
CEO
GolfRSA
On behalf of the South African Golf Association, the
warmest of welcomes to the SA Mid-Amateur IPT at
Elements Private Golf Reserve.
I have no doubt that Elements will be a compelling
venue for the tournament, with many risk and reward
holes in a unique setting. The club has come a long way
since it opened in 2009 and I’m sure you will enjoy
yourselves on this testing layout.
Late SAGA president Martin Saaiman was a huge
supporter of all amateur golf tournaments and he loved
IPTs, so I’d like to take this moment to pay my respects
to him as a friend, family man and long-serving golf
administrator. He had so much passion for the game
and we miss him dearly.
My sincere thanks go to all who have been involved in
putting together the SA Mid-Amateur IPT and I’d like to
wish all the players the best of luck this week.
Have a wonderful time representing your province and
enjoy the fierce competition and cameraderie that such an event brings.
Henk Smith
Acting President
SAGA
Welcome to the the Limpopo Bushveld. It’s an honour for me to
welcome the top Mid-Amateur golfers and their managers from
all over the country here in Limpopo.
If I may start by quoting Mr Jack Nicklaus: “Success depends
almost entirely on how effectively you learn to manage the game’s two ultimate adversaries: the course and yourself.”
With the quote in mind, I would like to welcome you to Elements
Private Golf Reserve. We trust that you will have a wonderful
time here in and enjoy nature, the course, and the comradeship.
On this note, I want to thank Elements staff and the homeowners for allowing us to host this prestigious event here.
Elements is an amazing estate and I’m sure that you will be
blessed with a superb golf course, amazing wildlife, and
hospitality of note.
Remember, between all the rivalry, to still make time to have fun,
smile and laugh, take in your surrounding and remember how
blessed we are to play this beautiful game we love so much.
The late president of SAGA, Martin Saaiman, had a passion for
golf and he had a love for Bushveld golf in Limpopo. I know he
will be looking down on us this week in awe of the golf on
display and the sportsmanship between teams.
May Elements and the picturesque Limpopo Bushveld bring the
best golf out of you. Remember, talent wins games but
teamwork and never giving up wins championships.
“Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad
breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots
- but you have to play the ball where it lies.” – Bobby Jones.
Thinus Labuschagne
President
Limpopo Golf Union
Welcome to Limpopo Province and to Elements Private Golf
Reserve.
It is an honour and a privilege to host the 2021 SA Mid-
Amateur IPT at Elements Private Golf Reserve.
The Reserve is situated in the southern Waterberg area and
prides it self on the concept of having a world class golf
course that is integrated into a natural bushveld setting. This
does not follow the typical golf estate layout which floods the edge of the golf course with houses. Owners and guests are
provided with a true African bushveld experience on and off the course.
Eighteen holes of pure joy and excitement, not forgetting the
many risk-and-reward holes, create an ideal facility for
hosting a match play tournament of this standard.
The Reserve hosts a variety of indigenous buck species and
bird life that is sought after in this area.
Please enjoy our hospitality and we look forward to assist in
making this a memorable week for all.
Stay safe and play well.

The Elements golf course is an unsurpassed Peter
Matkovich design that has been rated in the Top 30
golf courses of South Africa for the last 10 years.
The surrounding bushveld terrain varies between
natural hillsides and open plains, with mountain views
and perennial streams. The golf course meanders
through a fertile valley of indigenous vegetation and
artful landscaping.
Wildlife species found on course include Kudu,
Impala, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Blesbok, Red
Haartebeest and Mountain Reedbuck.
