Founded in 1936, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers serves to promote and protect professional engineers in Texas. Comprised of local
and student chapters, it is devoted to the professional, ethical, economic, social and political aspects of engineering. TSPE is the only organization
that serves to protect the rights of the individual professional engineer in Texas across all branches of engineering.
LETTER FROM TSPE PRESIDENT March 2021
Dear Mathletes®:
Welcome to the 2021 Texas State MATHCOUNTS Competition sponsored by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE)!
I would like to congratulate you on your success at the Chapter Invitational competition. You have proven by your selection to participate at the Texas State Competition that you are one of the State’s best and brightest middle school students of mathematics.
MATHCOUNTS has been one of the premier Mathematics competitions in Texas since 1984. TSPE is honored to have been the sponsoring organization for MATHCOUNTS in Texas since its inception. TSPE members across the State of Texas have volunteered thousands of hours at the local, state, and national levels to bring you this program. The MATHCOUNTS program ensures that students in Texas have an opportunity to expand their minds and hone their critical thinking skills by being exposed to the MATHCOUNTS materials.
TSPE is a State Society organization of the National Society of Professional Engineers. The NSPE/TSPE organization pro-motes the Licensed Practice of Professional Engineering which focuses on the protection of the Health, Safety and Welfare of members of the Public who are impacted by facilities designed by Professional Engineers such as roads, bridges, airports, buildings, water systems, sanitation systems and many other facilities that you use each and every day.
One of the key goals of TSPE is to promote the engineering profession through student outreach programs in Sci-ence, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). MATHCOUNTS encourages students to engage in math by developing problem-solving skills which is the basis for developing a successful career in engineering. Because of your demonstrated excellence in in mathematics and MATHCOUNTS, the Professional Engineers in TSPE feel that you can be-come a Professional Engineer, too! We hope that your involvement with Texas MATHCOUNTS will open your mind to the amazing possibilities available to you in the world of Professional Engineering. If you want to learn more about becoming a Professional Engineer, ask your MATHCOUNTS Coach to contact your MATHCOUNTS Chapter Coordinator to arrange a discussion with a Professional Engineer.
Good luck and congratulations on being among the best middle school Mathletes in Texas! We are excited about your future and look forward to the many great things you will accomplish. We hope you will consider using your talents in the future by pursuing an engineering career. The world needs bright minds like yours!
Sincerely,
David M. Underbrink, Licensed Professional EngineerPresident 2020-2021Texas Society of Professional Engineers
