MEASURING SUCCESS

How do you measure success? There are probably as many answers as there are programs, events, contests, etc., where success can be measured in some way.

It is common for many events and contests to be measured numerically, i.e., total numbers, percent of increase, or goal accomplishment. Less common is a measurement in a more subjective and intangible expression, such as level of personal satisfaction, pride, or feeling of accomplishment. A third and more far reaching measure would be “synergy”. Synergy can be thought of as the level of buy-in and coming together, for a common cause, by different parties. A measure of synergy can be seen when the “TOTAL is greater than the sums of the parts.”

The Chamber recently held its annual golf tournament. Our tournament was only one of many this time of the year. As usual, a great amount of planning and effort goes into the making of a successful event. Due to the leadership of Deke Alexander (committee chair), Melissa Geiger, Donna Sims, Judy Higgs, and others, plus a cadre of other member and non-member volunteers, our tournament was a great success by any measure and one which all

involved can be proud of. Numerically speaking, our results were the best ever:

largest number of players•largest number of teams•highest level of gross revenues and net •income (revenues minus expenses)largest cadre of volunteer involvement•

There are also a number of subjective measures of the tournament’s success. Among them is the level of pride gained from delivering an event of highest quality that is competitive with any tournament in our area. Each volunteer can receive satisfaction knowing the players were well-served. In addition, an intangible benefit is gained from increasing the credibility and awareness of our Chamber.

Other measures are more synergistic in nature. Our tournament provided a good example of synergy at work, where the Chamber, business, and community were contributing partners. The volunteer staff consisted of Chamber members as well as non-members. The business community provided the highest ever number of sponsors, donations, and support services in quantity and monetary value. The result of this synergy -- working for a common cause -- gives both short- and long-term benefits. The short term is monetary, because it provides funding for the Chamber’s operating budget. The long-term is less definitive, but equally or more important. The ever-evolving support circle of Chamber,

Approximately 50 members and guests were on hand for the June Networking Luncheon to enjoy great Prairie House food, networking, and an exciting program. Juli Mohan of Mustang Productions presented information on her proposed television series, “Horse Country USA”, now in production and slated to run on RFD-TV.

With around 25,000 privately-owned horses and nearly 400 ranches in Denton County alone, our area is at the epicenter of one of the most intensely equine-focused areas in the region and the country, contributing approximately $50 millon to the local economy annually. This location, with its concentration of great horses, great horsemen and -women, rich history, and diverse culture blending old-west traditions with modern innovations, has potential to showcase stories that are limitless and memorable.

Taking a human interest approach, Horse Country USA will celebrate the powerful bond between man and horse that has been a signature of Texas from the beginning. Moving human and horse stories will be featured, as well as tales of the unique businesses, tradesmen and -women, and organizations in the area that share a deep love for and devotion to all things equine.

The program will feature episodes with topics such as horse rescues and fostering, equine

therapy programs for children and adults with disabilities, spotlights of the area’s most historic ranches, and the large influence the area has on the international equine community.

The diverse demographics of equine enthusiasts, combined with the variety of stories featured, will give the program a broad appeal to all viewers with a love of horses - experienced horsemen and -women, people with a spectator’s interest in the equine world, and beginners who will no doubt be inspired to engage more fully in horsemanship.

Chamber Networking LuncheonJuly 18th at 11:30 am - Prairie House Restaurant

Held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at the Prairie House on Hwy 380 in Cross Roads, our Networking Luncheon is open to Chamber members as well as non-members. We feature a variety of speakers and presenters whose subjects relate to business as well as personal interests.

We all know the importance of getting a good night’s sleep. Inadequate sleep can have an impact on your health and brainpower... and consequently, your business. Our speaker this month is James Truitt, who will give a presentation on sleep disorders and how to alleviate them.

Luncheon tickets are $12 per person. You can buy your ticket in advance on our website, www.aubreycoc.org, on the “Join Now” page, or by calling the Chamber office. Tickets are also available at the door.

Would you like to be featured at our luncheon with your own talk or presentation? Or do you know someone else willing and eager? Contact the Chamber office at 940-365-9781, or send an e-mail to [email protected].

The sponsor for this month’s Luncheon is Springhill Medical and Aesthetics.

Are you interested in sponsorship opportunities for future Luncheons? Your pre-paid $100 sponsorship, which includes one lunch ticket, will allow you to spotlight your business with a 3-minute talk and to pass out your marketing materials to every table. The Chamber will also be advertising your business in our weekly emails. Contact the Chamber office at [email protected] if you are interested. Sponsorship slots are available for the August and September Luncheons.

As the music started on the evening of June 16, so did the rain! But Max Stalling and the band didn’t let a little rain stop them. When the storm would not allow for the use of electricity, Max and the boys did the first set accoustically.

A few folks let the rain scare them away, but most of the determined group gathered close around the stage and enjoyed the music. After the rain stopped pouring, the people began pouring into Downtown Aubrey. By the end of the evening, about 1200 music fans of all ages had a great time singing, dancing, and listening to awesome Texas music!
