    Preparation before Departure

    1. Make intention that you will be performing Hajjsolely for the pleasure of Allah Subhanahu Wa-Taaala and then to fulfill the obligation of Hajj.

    2. Make Taubah. The way to do this is to first make

    Ghusl, if you can not do so then just make Wudooand then offer two Rakaah Nafl Salaatut Taubah.After finishing, recite Durood and make Istighfaarwith Khushoo and Khudoo.

    3. If your parents are alive, then it is advisable toacquire their Permission. If they are your

    dependents (as far as taking their care is concerned)then to leave without their permission is Makrooh.

    4. If you are keeping things belonging to others whichthey have entrusted with you then return thosethings to the respective owners.

    5. Make a Will and leave it with a just and trustworthyperson.

    6. Make sure Hajj Financing is from Halal sources.7. Learn about essential jurisprudence of Hajj.

    Departure

    1. Pack your own baggage2. Do not accept any packages from strangers3. Leaving Home: Try to offer two Rakaah Nafl

    Salaah at your local masjid. Recite Soorah Al-Kaafiroon in the first Rakaah and Soorah Al-Ikhlaas in the second Rakaah. After Salaah, ReciteAyatul-Kursee and Soorah Al-Quraish and makeDua for ease and help of Allah Subhanahu Wa-Taaala in the journey.

    4. If possible, give alms (Charity Sadaqah).5. When you leave your house, recite the following

    Dua:

    6. Seek forgiveness from neighbours, friends andrelatives request them to make Dua for you. Asyou make Musaafihah with them, read this Dua:

    7. If you are traveling as a group then collect at theAirport.

    8. Check in as soon as possible. In general, travellersof international flight are advised to report at theAirport three hours before the departure time.

    9. All members of the group should collect at theboarding Gate and stay together in one general areaso that the group can formally begin their journeytogether with the assigned Masool (responsible

    person).10. A short talk about Adaab of Safar followed by a

    collective Dua is usually recommended at thistime.

    11. As you board the Plane, recite the following Dua:

    12. For journey over water, following Dua should be

    recited:

    13. Do not forget that your journey is to perform one ofthe biggest pillars of Islam. The process has already

    begun so be careful how you spend your time. On

    the plane, there are usually a lot of distractions suchas Movies, Songs (via head-phones), stewardessesand other things of this sort. Do Not waste yourtime with any of these things. Try to protect youreyes and ears. It is indeed a challenge on the planeespecially if you are seated right in front of a big

    screen. Try to avert your attention by reading theHoly Quran, reading religious books, involving inhealthy religious discussion with other members ofthe group or even giving Dawah to your neighbourirrespective of his apparent background or just go tosleep.

    14. Make sure food served to you on the plane is indeedHalaal.15. Be careful about times of Salaah during the flight

    especially if you are flying eastward.

    Entering State of Ihraam

    1. Remember to enter state of Ihraam before theLimits of Meeqaat.

    2. If you will be flying into Jeddah, you will pass theMeeqaat. It is therefore necessary to enter the state

    of Ihraam at the point of last takeoff. If you pass theMeeqaat without Ihraam then you will have to payDam ( ).

    3. Removal of Hair (Haircut, Under Arm, PrivateArea)

    4. Perform Ghusl with intention of Ihraam

    5. Comb hair (if applicable)6. Men: Put on Izar (lower sheet)7. Men: Put on another sheet like a shawl covering the

    head8. Men: Put on perfume9. Offer 2 Rakaah Nafl Salaah with intention of

    Tawaaf starts from Hajarul Aswad Men Only: Prepare your self by wearing your top

    sheet under the right arm and throwing the rest overthe left shoulder i.e. idtiba condition.

    Walk up as close as possible to the Hajarul Aswadkeeping yourself on its right i.e. the Hajarul Aswadshould be on your right as you face it.

    Make Intention of Tawaaf

    Move right so that you are facing Hajarul Aswad Raise both Hands as you would for Takbeerut

    Tahreemah in Salaah and recite the following

    If there is opportunity to kiss the Hajarul Aswad

    without pushing and shoving etc. then do sootherwise make a right turn and start the tawaaf.

    You should be moving towards the Door the

    Kabah You should go around the Hateem and not through

    the area between it and the Kabah. This area issupposed to be a part of the Kabah and Salaah inthis area is considered to be Salaah inside theKabah.

    Make Istilaam of Rukn-ul-Ymaani as you pass by itby touching it by both hands or by the right handonly.

    Men only: You must do Ramal for the first threeShawts

    After the third Shawt, you will not do Ramal andwill not do Idtiba i.e. walk normally duringTawaaf and wear the top sheet covering bothshoulders like a shawl.

    Each time you reach the Hajarul Aswad, kiss it ifyou can without hurting any one. If this is not

    possible then at the time when your left shoulder isin-line (radially with respect to the Tawaaf circle)with Hajarul Aswad, do not turn towards theKabah, just show the palms of your hands towards

    the Hajarul Aswad and recite the previous dua. the

    following is also sufficient Remember, this Dua will end up being read eight

    times, at the beginning of each Shawt and at thefinish of the seventh Shawt.

    After completing the Tawaaf, come to the

    Muqaamu Ibraheem and offer two Rakaah Salaahof Tawaaf preferably behind it. Recite Soorah Al-Kaafiroon in the first rakah and Soorah Al-Ikhlaasin the second Rakaah.

    Come to the area where the Zam-Zam well islocated and drink Zam-Zam water while standing.

    Make this dua before drinking

    If the rush is not too much then go to the wall

    between the Hajarul Aswad and the Door ofKabah. This area is known as Multazam. It is

    Sunnah to press the chest and cheek against it andmake Dua. It is one of those places where Dua isaccepted.

    Start the Saee by making Istilaam to HajarulAswad as you would for Tawaaf.

    Proceed toward Safa in the general directionpointed by the corner of Kabah which has Hajarul

    Aswad in it. Come out of the Mutaaf area and youwill see a small hill. Climb it. Read the following:

    Face Kabah, raise your hands as in Dua and recite

    Hamd, Thana, Takbeer and Tahleel of Allah

    Subhanahu Wa-Taala three times loudly. Thenrecite the Durood and, with Khushoo and makeDua. This is a place of acceptance.

    Recite Talbeah as well and make Dua for at leastthe duration of reciting 25 ayaat of the Holy quran.

    Start walking towards Marwah at normal pace.

    Continue making Dua. A recommended Dua is:

    Upon approaching the green light start running atmedium pace (like slow jogging).

    Stop running at the next green light and start

    walking at normal pace as before. Upon reaching Marwah, climb it (the floor is

    essentially a slope). Do not climb all the way. Turntowards Kabah and make Dua the way you did atSafa. This marks one lap of Saee.

    Now start walking towards Safa for your second

    lap.1. SafaMarwah2. SafaMarwah3. SafaMarwah4. Safa Marwah

    5. Safa

    Marwah6. Safa Marwah7. SafaMarwah

    Now perform two Rakaah Salaah inside but at theedge on Mutaaf

    Come out of Haram and get your hair cut (or head

    shaven, men only) Women should cut hair, from one of the locks,

    equal in length to the amount that wraps around onefinger.

    While Waiting for 1st Day of Hajj

    Remember that each and every minute of your timeis precious. Therefore make the most of it.

    You can perform Umrahs or tawaafs on behalf ofRasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, those

    muslim relatives who have passed away etc. Following are the places where Dua is accepted:

    1. During Tawaaf2. At the Multazam3. At Meezaabur Rahmah4. Inside Kabah

    5. At the well of Zam-Zam6. On Safa7. On Marwah8. During Saee9. At Maqaamu Ibraheem

    Be particular about making all Salaah in the Haram

    including Tahajjud. Women can make Salaah intheir rooms if they want to. Be particular about Takbeerul Oolaa

    Put on Ihraam within the limits of Haram. YourHotel room is also within this limit.

    See section on Entering State of Ihraam on page8.

    After sunrise, go to Mina. It is Mustahab to offer Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha

    of the 8th Zul Hijjah and Fajr of 9th Zul Hihjah inMina.

    It is Mustahab to stay near Masjid Kheef in Mina Spend your time in Excessive Ibaadah, Zikrullah,

    Dawah Ilallah and teaching and learning aboutvarious relevant aspects of Hajj and Deen ingeneral.

    Hajj 2nd Day, 9th Zul hijjah

    Offer Fajr Slaat close to sunrise (when there isample morning light, but before sunrise).

    After sunrise, leave for Arafat.

    When you see Jabal-ur-Rahamah, recite Takbeer,

    Tahleel and this Dua:

    Enter Arafat while reciting Talbeah

    In Masjid Namrah, Khutbah of Hajj is given by theappointed Imam, Zuhr Salaah is offered and thenAsr Salaah is offered right after. If you can not bein this masjid at this time then offer Zuhr and AsrSalaahs at their respective times. You can not makeJama (Combining the two Salaahs).

    It is Mustahab to Stand while performing Wuqoofin Arafat however sitting and lying down is

    permissible.

    Spend most, if not all, of your time in making Dua

    with Khushoo. Before and after each Dua, reciteTakbeer, Tahleel, Talbeah and Durood.

    Make sure that there is no mixing of Men andWomen.

    There is no specific Dua for this time therefore youcan make whatever Dua you want. It is

    recommended that we should make Dua for Ourown Hidaayah, our Khaatimah-Bil-Khair ( ), and the Hidaayah of all Humanity.

    Wait till sunset. After sunset start moving towardsMuzdalifah. Maghrib Salaah is offered inMuzdalifah and Not in Arafaat.

    Muzdalifah is plain that is situated between Arafaatand Mina at three miles distance form both.

    Upon reaching Muzdalifah, ensure that time of Ishahas begun. Then, call out Azaan and then Iqaamahand offer Maghrib and Ishaa Salaahs one after the

    other (in this sequence) without making any Sunnahor Nafil in between the two. The intention ( ) youmake for Maghrib Salaah should be the normalintention and Not Qada intention.

    During the night stay, pick up 70 pebbles of the size

    of peas. Wash them with water to cleanse them ofany Najaasah. These pebbles are used to stone theJamaraat.

    It is Mustahab to stay awake in the night makingIbaadah and Dua etc. After Fajr Salaah, makeWuqoof i.e. make Dua in the similar manner as

    you did in Arafaat. Before sunrise, leave for Mina

    Hajj 3rd Day, 10th Zul Hijjah

    Rami: Upon reaching Mina, it is Mustahab to stoneJamratul Oolaa as soon as possible. The time forstoning starts from Subh Saadiq of 10th and finishesat Subh Saadiq of 11th. However, to stone before

    sunrise on the 10th

    and after sunset is Makroohexcept for women, elderly (or weak) or the sick. Tostone between Zawaal and Sunset is Mabaah(allowed) but stoning between sunrise and Zawaalis Masnoon and preferable.

    Before stoning, read the following Dua

    Stop reciting Talbeah as soon as you cast the first

    stone.

    After stoning, sacrifice of an animal, Camel, Cow,Goat, Lamb etc (seven people can share a cow anda camel).

    After sacrificing the animal, perform Halq (the rite

    of shaving the Head for men and shortening hair forwomen) in the similar manner as after the umrah.Please refer to section on Saee on page 21.

    Recite Takbeer while performing Halq and recitethis Dua

    Now you can come out of Ihraam i.e. take a bath

    and change into normal clothes. Now proceed towards Makkatul Mukarramah to

    perform Tawaafuz Ziyaarah ( ). Perform Tawaafuz Ziyaarah as discussed before in

    section Tawaaf on page 16

    Perform Saee of Hajj as discussed in sectionSaee on page 21.

    Return to Mina.

    Kheef.

    After Zawaal, perform Rami (stoning) of Jamaar

    (all three) in the similar manner as described onpage 29.

    Return to Makkatul-Mukarramah

    While going back to Makkatul Mukarramah, it isSunnah to stay for a little while at a place calledMuhassab.

    Upon reaching Makkatul Mukarramah, your Hajj

    will be completed Alhamdulillah (

    ). Perform Tawaaful Wadaa. Follow the procedure

    described before in section of Tawaaf on page 16with the following difference:

    There is no RamalThere is no Idtiba

    As you will be leaving Baitullah now, express yourfeelings in the form of excessive Dua withKhushoo, at Multazam, at Muqaamu Ibraheem, atZam-Zam etc.

    At the end, make Istilaam of Hajarul Aswad and ifpossible walk in such a way that you can see the

    Baitullah till you come out of Haram. As you walkout, try to weep and if you can not, at least makeyour face as if you are weeping. Normally one does

    The one who performed Hajj and then visited my graveis like one who visited me when I was alive (Mishkaat)

    Recite this Dua when you are about to enter theCity:

    Upon entering the city, recite the following Dua:

    It is a matter of proper etiquettes, respectfulness andexpression of love to visit Masjid-un-Nabawi assoon as possible. Visit the Grave of Rasoolullah

    Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ( ).

    For women, however, there are specific times tovisit, which they should observe. Enter the masjid with the right foot and recite the

    following Dua:

    Perform Tahiyyatul Masjid (if Fard Salaah is not

    going on and it is not one of the forbidden times i.eafter Fajr Salaah until after sunrise, at Zawaal andafter Asr Salaah until after Maghrib Salaah).

    Visit the Grave of Rasoolullah Sallalahu AlaihiWasallam. As you pass by the Hujrah of Aaishah

    RadiAllahu Anhaa (Where the graves ofRasoolullah Sallalallahu Alaihi Wasallam, Abu-Bakr and Umar RadiAllahu Anhuma are situated)keep your gaze low. Trying to peek inside the Grillis considered disrespectful.

    When in front of the grave of Rasoolullah

    Sallallahu Alaihu Wasallam then stand facing thegrave i.e. your back facing the Qiblah and recite thefollowing Salaam:

    Do not forget conveying Salaams on behalf of thosewho requested it (If you remember, then include meamong the requesters).
