The Norfolk Broads.

The Broads have been a favourite

boating holiday destination since the

early 20th century. The waterways are

lock-free, although there are three

bridges under which only small

cruisers can pass. The area attracts

all kinds of visitors, including ramblers,

artists, anglers, and bird-watchers

as well as people "messing about

in boats". The Norfolk wherry, the

traditional cargo craft of the area,

can still be seen on the Broads as

some specimens have been preserved

and restored.

The Angel of the

As the name suggests, it is a steel

sculpture of an angel, standing 20 metres

(66 feet) tall, with wings 54 metres (178

feet) wide – making it wider than the

Statue of Liberty's height. The wings

themselves are not planar, but are angled

3.5 degrees forward, which Gormley has

been quoted as saying was to create

”a sense of embrace”. It stands on a hill

overlooking the A1 road and the A167

road into Tyneside and the East Coast

Main Line rail route.

Eilean Donan (Scottish Gaelic forIsland of Donan), is a small island inLoch Duich in the western Highlandsof Scotland. Eilean Donan castle is the famous castle situated on theisland. The castle was restored in theyears between 1912 and 1932, therestoration included the constructionof an arched bridge to give easieraccess to the castle. It is now one ofthe most photographed monumentsin Scotland and a popular venue forweddings and film locations, it hasappeared in such films as Highlander.On a clear day it is possible to see the Isle of Skye from the castle.

Giant’s Causeway

The Giant’s Causeway,

Legend has it that the Irish giant Fionn

mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool) built the

causeway to walk to Scotland to fight

his Scottish counterpart Benandonner.

One version of the legend tells that

Finn McCool fell asleep before he got

to Scotland. When he did not arrive,

the much larger Benandonner crossed

the bridge looking for him. To protect

Fionn, his wife Oonagh laid a blanket

over Fionn and pretended he was

actually Fionn's baby son.

Durdle Door, Dorset.

Durdle Door is one of Dorset's mostrecognisable features. Originally aband of resistant Portland limestoneran along the shore, the same bandwhich can be seen two miles downthe coast forming the narrow entranceto Lulworth Cove. Behind this is a 400 ft (120 metre) band of variousweaker rocks which are easily eroded,and behind this is a stronger andmuch thicker band of chalk, whichforms the Purbeck Hills. On a clear day you can see along the JurassicCoast westwards towards Portlandand eastwards towards Man of WarBay and Lulworth.
