2015 Christmas Tree Recycling Locations Residents of Wyandotte County can drop off their tree for recycling De-cember 26, 2015 through January 31, 2016 All tinsel, lights and ornaments must be removed. All drop off loca-tions will be clearly marked with a sign.

Christmas tree drop off locations are as follows:

Martin Luther King Holiday Impacts Res-idential Trash & Re-cycling Services

Deffenbaugh will not be picking up residential trash or curbside recycling on the Martin Luther King Day holiday on Monday, January 18, 2016 in Kansas City, Kansas. Service for both trash pickup and curbside recycling will be impacted the entire week. Monday pickup will be done on Tuesday. Tuesday pickup will be done on Wednesday. Wednesday pickup will be done on Thursday. Thursday pickup will be done on Friday. Friday pickup will be done on Saturday.

The utility tax rebate

The Unified Government offers a utility tax rebate to senior citizens during the first three months of the year.

The program offers senior citizens a rebate on a portion of the amount of utilities paid during the previous year. Persons ap-plying must meet all three qualifications listed below:

Be 65 years of age during the entire tax year

Live in Kansas City, KS

Total household income must not exceed $25,000

Eligible persons should bring:

All gas, telephone, and BPU bills paid during the tax year

Proof of income, i.e. social security, pension, interest, work, etc.

You may visit the Clerk’s office Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 4pm on a first come, first serve basis. The Clerk’s office is lo-cated inside of City Hall at 701 North 7th Street, KCK 66101 on the 3rd floor.

To visit the Wyandotte/Leavenworth Area Agency on Aging & Disability Resource Center, you must schedule an appoint-ment by dialing 913-573-8531. The ADRC will assist on Tues-days and Thursdays by appointment only.

LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM L.I.E.A.P

The Low Income Energy Assis-tance Program (LIEAP) is a feder-ally funded program that helps eli-gible house-holds pay a portion of their home energy costs by provid-ing a one-time per year benefit.

In order to qualify, applicants must:

HOMESTEAD REFUND

The Homestead Refund is rebate pro-gram for the property taxes paid by home-owners. The refund is based on a portion of the property tax paid on Kansas resi-dent’s home. The maximum refund is $700.

To qualify you must be a Kansas resident, living in Kansas the entire year. Your total household income must be $34,000 or less.

You must also meet one of the following requirements:

Homestead Refund Advancement Pro-gram provides eligible home-owners with the opportunity apply a portion of their anticipated Home-stead advancement sent directly to their County Treasurer. If the box is check on the 2015 K-40H, the homestead advancement will be sent di-

rectly from Kansas Department of Reve-nue to the County Treasurer. This elimi-nates the need for the homestead claimant to physically deliver the homestead eligibil-ity letter to the County Treasurer.

If you do not check this box, you cannot participate in the homestead advancement program, and none of your homestead refund will be used to pay your following year taxes.
