  Print Media• Print Media continues to stay strong.

 • For example, The Times and the ipad-only Project

Magazine are doing well.

  Print Media• Future for traditional print-based media companies

moving onto the Web: Tablet Market! • iOS5 developed Newsstand feature that targeted popular

magazines and print newspapers.    

Print Media • What is the future for traditional print-based media

companies moving onto the Web?     -heavily focused on tablet market • People continue using smartphones and tablets

instead of newspapers as well as magazines.  • Americans spent:

     -1+ hour / day on mobile devices     -44 min / day on newspapers and magazines.   

Flash • Usage dropped significantly within the last

year• Developers are choosing to work with

JQuery instead• It is a proprietary product, a disadvantage

to JQuery's open source

Flash • HTML5 and JavaScript are taking over

Flash's place for interactive features on websites 

• Adobe, its program developer, ceased the use of Flash in mobile devices

• Initially, it was created for the use of desktop internet browsing

Flash • Ceasing the development of the Flash

Player for mobile web results in the overall elimination of Flash from all mobile devices

• At this point, any new web projects should avoid using Flash at all

• TV shows incourage viewers to write in their thoughts on social media outlets such as Twitter.

• Online coverage, like the British Royal Wedding and UFC fights, are broadcasted LIVE through websites like youtube and hulu.

• Many popular sites allow users to watch the latest shows, movies, and more online at any time. Many of them for FREE. 

• Control TV anywhere anytime. From your television set to your smart phone, virtually eliminating the remote control.

HARDWARE-ACCELERATED BROWSERS

Little known secret: Most web browsers run what is known as hardware acceleration somewhere in the background. 

The idea is to use something within the hardware to speed up the browser. But, in 2011 Amazon came up with a better idea: Cloud Acceleration.  

 

For example...

In an attempt to minimize processing power of 

and to keep it small, sleek and sexy all of the hard work -- such as rendering web pages and Javascript -- was offloaded to GOD, HIMSELF!!   

I kid.

There is one catch, however...

Amazon's cloud acceleration isn't that fast...

But, only because there isn't enough web  content cached away. Stay tuned in 2012.
