Principal’s Reflection

21 November, 2018

Week 6, Term 4

Reflection Dear Families,

This week our school began our celebration of Advent. At school we start the

celebration early to allow our children to fully experience this four

weeks of preparation. We remind students that Advent is not a time of

counting down the weeks until holidays, but rather, counting down

until Jesus’ birth at Christmas. The word “Advent” means ‘coming’ or

‘arrival’. In Advent we thank God for coming into our world as Jesus

and for what His life brings to us. Advent gives us time to get ready for Jesus so that our lives

can reflect the love and joy that we feel at Christmas. This week we are filled with HOPE as

we wait to celebrate the birth of Jesus. We prepare our hearts and think about where Jesus is

present in our lives.

At this time of year we support St Vincent de Paul with a Christmas food collection to support families in

need over the Christmas holiday period. Each class will be collecting food to be donated beginning this week.

Donations can be sent along to school with your child.

Our final Parents and Friends fundraiser for the year is the Christmas raffle. If you

have any donations to add please send then into the front office. We Thank Area9 IT

solutions for the donation of an iPad Mini as the major prize. Tickets will be

distributed this week and are $2 each or 3 for $5.

I would like to remind parents that if your child has a problem at school, it is really important that you

communicate your concerns with your child’s teacher, myself or a member of the leadership team as soon as

possible. Dealing with the problem promptly and in a positive way makes a huge difference to your child’s

resilience, self esteem and future relationships with teachers and peers. Please be assured that staff at Holy

Spirit will always deal with your concerns confidentially and sensitively to ensure problems are resolved.

This week we farewell Luzia Oliveira, who has worked in our Early Learning Centre for the last four years.

We wish Luzia all the best in her new endeavour as a small business owner.

This Friday we welcome the newest members of our school community, our 2019 Transition students with an

orientation morning. This morning provides a fantastic opportunity for the students to experience a little of

what next year will be like for them. We are currently still accepting enrolments for 2019 across all year levels,

please enquire through the front office.

God bless you all and keep you safe,

Mr. Simon Duffy

LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOW Year 1/2, Rm. 4, with Miss Coughlan

In Week 5, we had some wonderful visitors from O'Loughlin

Senior College come to our school for a couple of hours to

teach us some games and activities. These included Uno, Bop

It, Hula Hoops, Connect Four, Snap with extra large cards,

colouring in and reading. At the end of the session we were

lucky enough to keep some of the games and activities to use in

our class. We all had a wonderful time and loved having them

come and spend some time with us.

Vinnies Christmas Appeal 2018

With Christmas fast approaching our minds may well be turning to thoughts of holidays,

family time, feasts and presents. It is worth taking the time to consider that there are

families in our community that do not look forward to Christmas, as it highlights the

hardships that they experience. Some families can't afford presents for their children or

yummy Christmas food. Each year the Holy Spirit community participates in the St Vinnies

Christmas Appeal. This is a fundraiser that assists families in our community by providing all

the "trimmings" that a family would require for Christmas.

Students at Holy Spirit are encouraged to bring in items such as food and presents that can

be distributed to people in need.

Important Information:

Please donate and send in items before Thursday 6th December 2018.

Each class room has a box for donated food and gift items.

A representative from St Vincent De Paul will be present at Friday 7th December

2018 morning assembly to receive the hampers.

Christmas Food Hamper: To uphold the dignity of those receiving the hampers, please ensure

that all food items are not due to expire for another six months. It’s important to remember the

hamper must contain non-perishable food items.

Christmas Gift/Present Hamper: When choosing a gift please consider gender and age

appropriate gifts. Please attach a note/tag in relation to age and gender that the gift is appropriate.
