Handy security tips

• It’s easy to get lost in conversation. But if you’re using your phone when you’re out and about, try to stay aware of your surroundings.

• Annoy a thief. Use your phone security lock code or PIN to prevent them from making any calls.

• Pop into your nearest Vodafone store and ask an assistant to security mark your phone and battery with your postcode and house number, or the first two letters of your house name. This is free of charge (your police station offers this service too).

Help us immobilise mobile phone crimeJoin the Immobilise campaign and register your phone on the National Phone Register. You’ll be helping us and the police crack down on mobile phone theft.

This is a free service supported by the National Mobile Phone Crime Unit (NMPCU), UK Police Forces, the Home Office and the mobile phone industry.

Here’s how the Mobile Phone Register works

• The Immobilise campaign encourages all mobile phone owners to register their details to help fight crime.

• Millions of mobile phone owners have already registered their phones.

• If your stolen phone is on the Register, and is then found, it can be traced back to you. This could lead to the thief being apprehended and prosecuted.

And here’s how you can register

• Find out your phone’s serial/IMEI number. (Look on the underside of your phone battery or key *#06# into your phone and it will appear on your screen).

• Visit immobilise.com

• Input your details – it only takes a couple of minutes and is completely free.

Just in case8 out of 10 people involved in accidents aren’t carrying the information that could prove crucial to the emergency services. ICE – In Case of Emergency – is a really simple way to store details of your next-of-kin on your phone.

11

How ICE works

• Just go to your contacts, and put the letters ICE in front of the name of the person you would like the emergency services to contact in an emergency. It’s that easy.

• The emergency services will look for ICE on your mobile if you’re involved in an accident and contact that person if necessary to gather important information.

• Before you choose your ICE contact, check that they are ok about it and that they are easily contactable on that number. For example, a home number could be useless if they work full time.

• Make sure your ICE contact has a list of other people they should contact on your behalf – including your place of work.

• Ensure your ICE contact is aware of any medical conditions that could affect your emergency treatment – for example, any allergies or current medication.

• Storing an ICE number only takes a few seconds and it could save your life. So why not do it right now?
