1. food chain…• is the energy in food that is passed from one
organism to another.• is the path energy takes from producers to
consumers to decomposers.
2. food web…• shows the relationship between all of the
species in a community.• shows how populations must compete for
food.• is a map of overlapping food chains.
3. herbivores…
• eat plants, algae, and other producers.
4. carnivores
• eat herbivores, and other animals
5. predators…
• living things that hunt other living things for food
6. prey….
• are the hunted.
7. scavengers…
• are meat eaters, but don’t hunt.
• they feed on the remains of dead animals.
8. omnivore….
• eats both animals and plants.• people are omnivores.
9. symbiosis….
• a relationship between two kinds of organisms that lasts over a period of time.
• there are different kinds.
10. mutualism…
• a relationship between two kinds of organisms benefits both of them.
11. parasitism…
• is a relationship in which one kind of organism lives on or in another organism and may harm that organism. (ex. a mosquito or flea)
12. commensalism…
• is a relationship in which one organism benefits from another without harming or helping it.
