Wednesday Lenten Services Begin
Ash Wednesday – February 10
The theme for Wednesday Midweek Services will be “Unshakeable Faith.” How
do we stand strong when things go wrong? What do we do when the unexpected happens? How do we react when life is moving along smoothly and suddenly the bottom drops out? In this series, we will learn how to face the toughest of situations with our faith not only intact but stronger than ever. We will discuss how to apply sound Biblical principles to our circumstances. We will address
some “earth-shaking” issue and clearly see how God can strengthen and sustain.

Pastor Talk . . . From The Pen of Pastor Paul
In February, we begin the season of Lent. Therefore, many people will look for things to give up for Lent – a spiritual discipline that reminds us of what Jesus gave up for us, and a discipline that helps us become more faithful to Jesus in our own living. With this thought in mind, I give my Pastor’s Page over to the words of Rev. Craig Gates of Jackson, MS. Rev. Gates says that if you are thinking of giving up some things for Lent, you may want to consider the following:
GIVE UP grumbling! Instead, " In everything give thanks." Constructive criticism is OK, but "moaning, groaning, and complaining" are not Christian disciplines. GIVE UP 10 to 15 minutes in bed! Instead, use that time in prayer, Bible study and personal devotion. GIVE UP looking at other people’s worst points. Instead concentrate on their best points. We all have faults. It is a lot easier to have people overlook our shortcomings when we overlook theirs first. GIVE UP speaking unkindly. Instead, let your speech be generous and understanding. It costs so little to say something kind and uplifting. Why not check that sharp tongue at the door? GIVE UP your hatred of anyone or anything! Instead, learn the discipline of love. "Love covers a multitude of sins." GIVE UP your worries and anxieties! Instead, trust God with them. Anxiety is spending emotional energy on something we can do nothing about: like tomorrow! Live today and let God’s grace be sufficient. GIVE UP TV one evening a week! Instead, visit some lonely or sick person. There are those who are isolated by illness or age. Why isolate yourself in front of the "tube?" Give someone a precious gift: your time! GIVE UP buying anything but essentials for yourself! Instead, give the money to God. The money you would spend on the luxuries could help someone meet basic needs. We are called to be stewards of God’s riches, not consumers. GIVE UP judging by appearances and by the standard of the world! Instead, learn to give up yourself to God. There is only one who has the right to judge, Jesus Christ.
God’s peace, Pastor Paul

Cross Examination
Weekend Sermon Series
F or the six weekends in Lent, we have created a sermon series from the assigned readings which annually focus on Jesus’
walk towards the cross. Lent is to be a time of reflection, repentance and growth in the Lord. Our sermon series will help us to reflect on our relationship with Jesus and challenge us to make the changes our Lord desires us to make in our relationship with Him. Such changes and growth require focused examination of our thoughts, words and actions with the end result of becoming a new creation on Easter with the help of
Jesus’ resurrection power.

The Food Closet at Trinity has had a very busy year! Below are the numbers for the past two years.
Year Total # Households # Adults # Children
2014 1,115 2,580 1,068
2015 1,823 3,016 2,147
Theresa Jenkins says that all of the goals for the past year were met. The Food Closet has been open on Tuesday evenings since early summer. The number of volunteers has increased. Despite the increase in needs, the Food Closet has been able to maintain food in the pantry. Costs have decreased. The partnership with the Maryland Food Bank has been very successful. They provided us with a small grant, and helped to arrange several food drives, one through
Dollar Tree stores in the area. Food that is purchased through the Maryland Food Bank is much less costly than buying
at grocery stores.
Thanks to all of those who have volunteered at the Food Closet, and a big thanks for all those who made donations of food and money to buy food. We recently received a donation of a stand-up freezer, which has been so helpful! Right
now, the pantry is in need of canned meat, cereal, stuffing, and rice.
Angel Tree
T hank you to all who contributed Christ-
mas gifts for the Trinity Lutheran
Church's Angel Tree Ministry. This past
Christmas, we provided Christmas gifts for
116 children from 44 families in our neigh-borhood. Each child received three gifts re-
sulting in a total of 348 gifts
purchased by our church members. Thanks
again for your compassion and generosity.
Trinity “Love-Jacked”
A ttention Trinity congregation: In our bulletins, at the end of each week’s Order of Worship, is printed “Our worship has
ended. Let our service begin!” It is time that we, as a
congregation, join together to collectively serve our neighbors. On Sunday, February 28, the Evangelism Team would like to invite you to join us in spreading random acts of generosity across our community as a tangible expression of our love for God through
service. Sign-up sheets will be located in the Narthex with
locations in Harford County that we will be targeting that
afternoon, directly after the 11:00 a.m. service. We encourage small groups to sign up for a location together or if you are not in a small group, to join an existing group or form a new one. Lists of suggested gifts and “Love-Jacked” cards will be available at the sign-up table. Let’s join together and bless our community in a powerful way! Contact Ben Lander for more information: bland-

Lauren and Lindsay
Satterfield started attending Trinity Lutheran church about
ten years ago. They were avid
members of the youth group and
worship team. They both
attended college for music education and are
currently middle school choir and general music teachers.
Vocal Obsession consists of
five friends who have sung in
various ensembles for the past
twenty years, and decided to
form a group devoted to
a cappella music. They have
performed separately, gaining recognition in
ensembles and as soloists in the US and Europe
(including Orlando, Chicago, Amsterdam, Montreux, Vienna, Strasbourg, and Liege). In 2003, they
decided to band together to sing sans
instruments. Vocal Obsession has performed at
prestigious events, including the 2005 - 2007 DC
Harmony Sweepstakes. While beginning primarily
as a jazz group, they enjoy singing all types of contemporary a cappella tunes. We look forward to
having this very talented group of singers at Trinity
on Wednesday, March 11, at our 7:00 p.m. Lenten
service. For more information on the group, you
