Chapter Name
This chapter describes basic instructions, precautions and work
flow of emergency maintenance.
Basic InstructionBefore doing emergency maintenance work, consider and followthe basic instructions:
1. Emergency maintenance should focus on restoring the
normal running of the equipment quickly.
2. To be more efficient in emergency troubleshooting, read
emergency maintenance documents in advance.3. In case of service interruption, contact maintenance
personnel at the OMCR side, query the related OMCR alarmsand identify the problem.
If the service interruption occurs to multiple BTSs, check
whether the Abis interface and the transmission circuitare normal.
If the module or board gets faulty, make sure whetherthe data or version of the board is changed.
If BSC, transmission equipment or transmission circuits
are normal, check and maintain the BTSs. Contact maintenance personnel at the OMCR side to co-
operate with the emergency maintenance at BTS side.
Carry the tools and common spare parts to the BTS sitefor emergency maintenance.
4. After finishing the emergent fault processing, collectequipment alarm information related to this accident. Sendthe relevant fault processing report, equipment alarm fileand log file to ZTE for fault analysis and location.

PrecautionsEmergency maintenance usually has an impact on system
running, so the maintenance personnel must have relevantmaintenance experience and familiar with the equipment.
Conduct maintenance under the instruction of experiencedmaintenance personnel.
If the fault is major, contact ZTE customer support center or ZTElocal office as soon as possible.

Emergency maintenance flow includes the following steps.
1. Check the services.
According to service interruption, check whether the BTS fails
through the topological view, and check the alarm informationon OMCR client. Also check whether the fault occurs to individual
BTS or multiple BTSs.
2. Record fault abnormality and identify the fault cause.
Identify the fault cause according to the emergencymaintenance process in Figure 1 and make record, as shown inTable 4.

Status query information
Signaling trace information
3. Detect and analyze the fault.
Detect and analyze the fault according to the fault symptoms.
If the fault is not caused by the BSS equipment, ask the relevantpersonnel to solve the problem.
If the fault lies in the BSS equipment, analyze whether the faultis in BSC or BTS.
If the fault cannot be cleared, then contact ZTE customersupport center or ZTE local office.
4. Restore the service.
After locating the fault cause, restore the service quickly. If thefault cause cannot be located soon, try to make a switchover, reset or change the board to restore the system services.

Notes:
Before restoring the services, back up the system data.
Before changing the hardware configuration, such asconnection and board slot, record the current status first.
Record all steps and process during the service recovery.
5. Observe the restored service
After restoring the service from emergent fault, make sure thesystem runs normally.
Check the service recovery by making call test, and checkperformance report statistics.
6. Feedback
Summarize the fault process, record the fault processing tableand feed back to ZTE customer support centre.

BTS emergency maintenance involves the following steps:
View the alarm information and performance statistics reportat OMCR client. Collect subscribers complaints and analyzethe BTS fault situation.
Check whether the fault caused to individual BTS or multiple
BTSs.
Check the power supply is stable or not. If not, observe it for awhile and then perform the following tests.
Check external power voltage range at the input port of thecabinet.
Normal system voltage range is given below:
Approximate working power supply voltage is 220 VAC
(130 VAC~300 VAC).When 110 VAC power input, the approximate value is110 VAC (88 VAC~ 132 VAC).
If the external power supply is normal, turn off the powersupply switch. Check the connections between power cablesand the cabinet.
If the connections are loose, then check whether the power
supply channel has the burst trail.
Confirm the transmission status with the Maintenance
personnel to make sure whether the transmission status isnormal.
Make sure whether data adjustment or cut-over was madebefore.
Perform the transmission loop test from BTS and BSC to
identify the transmission status.
Uplink and downlink signal communications are normal andthe BTS cannot be normally started when there are cross
connected lines for transmission.
If the problem lies in transmission, ask the transmission
personnel to handle it as soon as possible.BTS has the following requirements for transmission indices:
Transmission Bit Error Ratio (BER) should be lesser than 10-6.
Otherwise, it may lead to data output error or LAPD transientinterruption.
Satellite transmission delay should be lesser than 260 ms.Otherwise, it may cause call drop, congestion or abnormaldata transmission.
Clock precision should be lesser than 0.05 ppm(corresponding to 13 MHz 0.65 Hz). If the switching

requirement is not considered, the clock precision for the
external can be 0.2 ppm.
Normally, BTS clock precision should be less than 0.02 ppm.
TS allocation failure causes LAPD interruption under normaltransmission conditions.
Main causes of TS allocation failure:
Inconsistency between the background configuration dataand the data indicated by the DIP can cause LAPDinterruption.
E1 timeslot multiplexer in the middle of the transmission
path can cause TS allocation inconsistency between BTS andBSC.
When multiplexer fails or its data configuration is wrong. E1timeslot for the BTS cannot transmit data transparently andBTS LAPD functions improperly.
BSC and BTS check the received signals, not transmissionsignal. So, transmission problem will not be reported as analarm. Remove the transmitting E1 on either side and checkwhether the peer side can receive signals.
BSC can detect a remote alarm on the downlink. LEDIndicator on the TIC will not blink when the downlink E1 doesnot receive signals.
Record LED indicator states of the faulty boards, as shown in
