CAREER ADVANCEMENT - The Balance Quest: Building a Life That Works for You (W) ..............................................Meeting Room LL20“Having it all” has become the subject of much debate, with passions running high in all directions. And with such a wide spectrum of priori-ties, workloads, and resources, it is impossible to define “life balance” for all women. But what if the equation were different altogether? What if there were a recipe for giving you more time to do what is important to you? Time management expert Laura Vanderkam will share time management strategies that may make the difference between just hanging on and possibly feeling like you are “having it all.”

SPEAKER: Laura Vanderkam, author, I Know How She Does It @lvanderkamEMCEE: Nikki Medoro, San Francisco radio personality, KGO 810 @kgo810 @nikkimedoro

LEADERSHIP - Creative Change (W) .......................................................................................................................... Meeting Room LL21ABCCEOs, top executives, and other business leaders agree that creativity and innovation are vital to thrive in a competitive world. But according to the research of former Wharton management professor Jennifer Mueller, many business leaders chronically reject creative solutions and instead embrace the familiar. Mueller’s research reveals that it’s not just CEOs, but many others who struggle to accept creative ideas even as they seek innovation. Mu-eller will address the tough questions these findings raise: Do we love but also hate creative ideas? Could the mind-set we use to evaluate ideas turn this love or hate on or off—in an instant? Do experts struggle even more than novices with this bias? And even more startling, could our “best practices” activate this bias, and inadvertently kill innovation? Mueller diagnoses this hidden innovation barrier and will share her solutions in this workshop.

SPEAKER: Jennifer Mueller, associate professor, University of San Diego, & author, Creative Change @jennsmueller EMCEE: Missy Schnurstein, head, product marketing & demand strategy, Oath @oath

CAREER ADVANCEMENT – Fine-Tune Your Brain: Making and Implementing Decisions Effectively (POE) ........ Meeting Room LL21DEFEvery day, in every part of our lives, we face an increasing number of choices. Join cognitive psychologist Therese Huston as she breaks open the misconceptions on how women make decisions. She leads a discussion on creating optimal choices, optimizing decision making (using people and technology), and communi-cating decisions so that others can help turn them into actions.

In this workshop, the author of Soulful Simplicity: How Living with Less Can Lead to So Much More shows us how to stop getting caught up in the rush and to discover the power of simplicity. CAREER ADVANCEMENT - Transform Your Working Life (W) .......................................................................................Meeting Room LL20Whether we have a good day or not depends partly on things we can’t control—perhaps an unexpected crisis or a cranky colleague. But behavioral science shows that many things that seem “random” can be strongly influenced by our own actions. Caroline Webb, economist and former partner at McKinsey, will demonstrate how tweaks to our daily routines can transform our experience of what happens around us, the number of hours in the day, our level of intelligence, and even other people’s moods. She will share insights on handling everyday challenges and being your best even under pressure. With this kind of powerful insight in your back pocket, attendees will leave with the power to trans-form their approach to life for boosted workplace performance and personal satisfaction.

Meeting Room LL21ABCWorkplace diversity can increase productivity, job satisfaction, innovation, and even a business’s bottom line. Increasingly, companies know how vital it is for their workforce to have a collective well of experience and perspectives, but their approach to increasing diversity has not changed much over the decades. Dr. Vivienne Ming reframes how leaders of both small and large organizations can address diversity in their ranks. She presents a fresh approach to why diversity is crucial, how to shift well-intentioned practices that can actually be exclusionary, and the right metrics to measure effectiveness.

Meeting Room LL21DEFThese days, our professional lives happen more and more from behind electronic screens, but what we need to get ahead may be a more analog solution. We need to start talking to each other. Whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, an executive or a manager, shy or a social butterfly, this session will provide new tools for you to have powerful conversations in the workplace.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT - Radical Honesty: How to Tell the Truth (Even When No One Wants to Hear It) (W) .......... Grand Ballroom 220AEven if you believe that honesty is the best policy, we don’t always say what we really mean, especially in the workplace. Talking openly about issues and challenges can go against our desire to be nice and make one another feel good. When Patty McCord was the chief talent officer at Netflix, she co-authored the company’s famous “culture deck,” which spelled out her vision for creating a company culture that hinges on em-ployees behaving like, and being treated as, adults. Part of being an adult is being able to hear and tell the truth. In this workshop, the author of Powerful: Building a Culture of Freedom and Responsibility explains why radical honesty is the only way to ensure that you are trusted and understood. Participants will learn about different styles of delivery, systems for offering feedback, and how leaders can model key behavior like admitting fault. Bring your questions about transforming your workplace and your life with radical honesty, from disagreeing with your supervisor to recruiting, motivating, and creating great teams.

In this workshop, she talks about how perceived shortcomings might also be strengths and how a winning mindset and reputation can help you win the game. Participants will learn how to know your perception so you can create your own reality, cultivate grit and toughness to overcome inevitable setbacks, and how to find your own “it factor” on and off the field.

CAREER ADVANCEMENT - What No One Tells You about Negotiating (W) ...................................................................Meeting Room LL20Many people avoid negotiating, fearing conflict or even failure. LEADERSHIP - A Conversation on Sponsorship for Men and Women (POE) .......................................................................Meeting Room 212Women with leadership aspirations need advocacy from men and women in positions of power. In other words, they need a sponsor. A mentor can help define a dream, but a sponsor doesn’t stop until the dream has been realized. These mutually beneficial relationships are especially critical at transition points; a great sponsor can help remove obstacles, reveal opportunities, and make talent visible to key leaders. Whether you are looking to increase diversity and satisfaction at your company or to inspire meaning or momentum in your career, join this essential conversation about allyship, advocacy, and what it takes to find and become a sponsor.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT-ENCORE: Retire with Enough Money: Strategies for Making Your Money Last (W) .........Meeting Room 210EFWith ever-changing policies on retirement planning, it’s tempting to put off saving for retirement until there is a clear path to follow. Do you invest safely knowing that the money will be there, but might not be quite enough? Or do you invest more aggressively in the hopes that you have more money to spend later in life? Labor economist and nationally recognized expert in retirement security Dr. Teresa Ghilarducci will help you cut through the confusion and misinformation with a strategy to help you achieve what you are planning for in your retirement savings. Her program will explain:

• What a person or household needs to have saved;• How much to expect from Social Security; and• How to make your money grow between now and then.

There are no gimmicks or magical thinking in this presentation—just valuable recommendations that will make attending this session a wise investment.
