DINNER AND SHOW $82

26-28 November 6pm till midnight

By Jacob PageCall it a punt on the silver

screen but Marlborough’s in-dependent film talent will have a chance to shine next week at the inaugural Top of the South Film Festival.

It’s a chance for people to see 14 short films for just $15.

Organisers Aaron Falvey and Phil McKinnon say the short films ranging from seven to 28 minutes and spanning all genres will be shown at the Marlborough Civic Theatre on Wednesday night.

Half a dozen of those films have been made by Marlburians Chris Lippiatt, Ryan A. Lloyd, James Wvinner, Stu McCor-mick and Daniel Rarity.

“Last year we did a film festi-val for all of my films,” Aaron says.

“It proved quite successful and Phil came to me and said we should do something for the public.”

Phil says there are all sorts of films from horror to action, documentaries and true stories.

“We want to have movies that appeal to everyone,” Phil says.

“We want to give our film-makers the best chance to show what they can do,” Aaron says. “It’s also our fundraiser with proceeds going towards funding local films.

Ryan A Lloyd’s film called Tama is based on his own grandfather and his middle son.

The New Zealand Film Com-mission helped fund it and it featured at the New Zealand International Film Festival.

“That should be a little treat for everyone… It’s a mix of his own work while blending in his home movie footage,” Aaron says.

“We’ve got some filmmakers who are putting together their first film while others have 20 years experience so there’s a wide range there.”

Tickets are available from TicketDirect or the Marlborough Civic Theatre with the event starting at 8pm.

Continued from page 1“The money we raised ben-

efited the Havelock Lions, Cactus and Outward Bound organisations and this year we are throwing our support behind the boardwalk project,” he says.

Havelock Community As-sociation community develop-ment adviser Hans Neilson says seeing community mem-bers supporting local projects is fantastic to see.

“The community has identi-

fied that boardwalk project is a priority and people are getting behind it to help raise funds which is hugely encouraging.

“This event is a great thing for Havelock because, as well as being about the most fun you can have standing up, it also marks yet another event/activity that is contributing towards the achievement of our larger community goals,” he says.

Jim, who owns the Pelorus Mail Boat was born and raised

in Inverness, North East Scot-land. He arrived in New Zea-land as a backpacker 14 years ago and never left.

“I had been working with kiwis in France and Turkey and they kept saying I should visit New Zealand,” he says.

He spent 10 years flying planes before settling in Have-lock with the mail boat.

“It suits me to the ground... water, the Marlborough Sounds, staying close to my family,” he says.

Performing at the dance will be Scottish band Slocken and a light dinner including stovies and clooty dumplings will be served.

People are invited to take their own drinks.

Book early to avoid missing out by phoning 03 574 1088, and tickets are available at the Havelock Café & Info, Havelock Community Office and Ken Ham’s Music.

Adults $25 per person or a family ticket for $55.

inbrief‘Laddie’s’ final act felt for decades to come

RNZAF huts on the move

Let’s sing our national anthemA nationwide push is being made to get people to sing New Zealand’s national anthem ‘God Defend New Zealand’ at various locations around Marlborough on Sunday. The New Zealand Anthem ‘One Voice’ group is encouraging people to join them in locations around Marlborough at midday on Sunday to belt out the tune.

Flag alternatives sent backThe five alternative flag designs to potentially replace the current New Zealand flag have been sent back to the Government after they could not fly on the flag poles at Seymour Square. The flags did not have the necessary attachments, as the poles were actually designed for banners rather than flags.

By Jacob PageAlan “Laddie” Hope’s last gener-

ous act will have an impact on the Marlborough community “for decades to come,” according to Hospice Marlborough chairperson Peter Tolan.

Laddie’s 1970 home, he built himself in Warwick Street was sold for $273,000 at an auction at the property on Wednesday night.

Representatives from charities as well as family and friends of Laddie attended the auction.

Peter says occasions like this are rare and need to be recognised.

“The Hospice provides a free service for the Marlborough com-munity and it’s through generous acts like this that we invest the money and use only the interest to provide the service.

“Laddie’s kind act will last many, many years and benefit people in Marlborough for decades.”

Marlborough St John manager Rod Hill says the money his or-ganisation receives will ensure a new ambulance will be serving the Marlborough community before Christmas.

The new ambulance will also have the number plate ‘Laddie’ in honour of the man who made it possible.

“We’ve been talking to the family to ensure that when the ambulance arrives, the number plates will be on it.

“Our hope is that others will see it and think that it is something they will consider doing.

“It’s a wonderful gesture.”Harcourts auctioneer Bryan Palmer holds a photo of Alan “Laddie” Hope as his Warwick Street house was sold for $273,000 on Wednesday night with funds going to Marlborough St John and Marlborough Hospice.

By Jacob PageTraining huts from RNZAF

Dip Flat were on the move to their new permanent home at Omaka earlier this week with 10 of the 17 now set for preservation.

The Garrison Society has en-tered into a custodial agreement with the RNZAF to preserve the huts that will now become part of the old RNZAF Station Omaka complex.

Commanding officer Adam North says preservation work will be slow and reliant on fund-ing but he was confident they would be an asset in the new location.

“There are new ones up there so these were surplus with require-ments.

“We will restore them and fix

them where appropriate and they’ll become part of our public display.

“We’ll put nine out the back and they’ll be kitted out as they were

as a training place and one will be used as a guard house

“We have a lot of work to do and it comes down to community support and money.

Adam says the Garrison Soci-ety is always looking to recruit more manpower and a Givealittle page had been set up to help cover continued costs.

Former RNZAF training huts at Dip Flat have a new home at Omaka with the Garrison Society.

Jetti Omkar has a lot to smile about as he prepares to open his new restaurant MIA - Made In Aotearoa Dining and Wine Cellar.

Jetti has taken over the prem-ises previously occupied by Angkor and is in the process of completely refurbishing the inside.

His plans include having a wine cellar mainly focusing on showcasing Marlborough as being a premium wine region, and the stylish menu will consist of fresh locally produced food with a European twist.

“In Marlborough we have over 150 wineries and because people don’t get to experience them all, they can come in and try them

all under one roof.“We will be open from 11am

till late,” he says. This has been a project one

year in the making Jetti says, so finally seeing his concept come to life has been hugely exciting.

Having degrees in viticulture and wine making as well as hos-pitality and hotel management, Jetti feels his qualifications definitely add to the concept of dining and wine.

“I plan to be spending a lot of time talking to people about wine and food and generally promoting Marlborough the best I can,” he says.

Jetti plans to have Made In Aotearoa open for business in the second or third week of November.

New restaurant for Scott Street

Jetti Omkar is set to open his new restaurant Made In Aotearoa (MIA) in Scott Street around the beginning of November.

By Jacob PageDave Singh is expanding his Indian

convenience store chain Ekam Food Mart across the hill to Blenheim.

Dave, who began washing dishes at Pizza Hut in Gore before going on to now own the store as well as three more in Richmond, Nelson and Blenheim, opened his first Indian convenience store in Nelson in February.

The new shop in Scott Street will carry the same name as the Nelson store, Ekam, which is named after Dave’s daughter.

“Ekam means everybody so it’s a lovely name.”

The store will have all sorts of Indian spices, snacks, naan bread and sweets,

as well as standard food mart products including fizzy drinks and potato chips.

It will be open seven days a week.“It’s a good opportunity to have some-

where in Scott Street where people can buy their milk,” Dave says.

“We’ll also have a Western Union outlet where people can send money.”

Dave says he studied the market for four months and he felt Blenheim needed a place where people could purchase Indian spices.

“We’ll have ready to eat meals too that are kind of heat and eat food so it is all about convenience.”

There will also be some herbal medicines available.

A little spice for CBDEkam Food mart owner Dave Singh (left) has opened a second store in Blenheim to go with the one in Nelson.

Wine levy referendaThe New Zealand wine industry has shown resounding support for their na-tional organisation by voting positively in the 2015 levy referenda, enabling New Zealand Winegrowers to receive continued levy funding. The results show 87 per cent of wineries (98% by volume) voting in favour of the wine levy, and 90 per cent of grapegrow-ers (92 per cent by value) voting in favour of the grape levy.Steve Green, Chair of New Zealand Winegrowers Inc. was delighted with the outcome, “These are absolutely outstanding results and we would like to thank all of our members for taking the time to vote.”

Safe Air jobsSafe Air has announced plans to recruit 14 new staff at its Woodbourne base. The jobs come after the acquisition of Safe Air by the Airbus Group earlier this year.Safe Air had previously cut about 160 jobs over the past five years as demand for its services dwindled.

Tavern opens early for All BlacksThe Woodbourne Tavern is opening early on Sunday morning in time for the All Blacks vs South Africa, Rugby World Cup Semi final game.Doors open at 3.45am for live kick off at 4am.

A Bill enabling local communities to decide whether retailers in their districts can open on Easter Sunday was introduced to Parliament yesterday, says Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Michael Woodhouse.

The issue over Easter trading had been a major one in Blenheim with shops unable to open during the bi-annual Classic Fighters Air Show at Omaka

“The Shop Trading Hours Amendment Bill will enable communities, through councils, to choose whether or not to allow trading on Easter Sunday,” Mr Woodhouse says.

“The historical Easter Sunday shop trad-ing exemptions are out of date and create an unfair advantage for certain businesses and regions that can continue trading while others stay shut.

“We know there is a demand from com-munities across the country to allow for shop trading on Easter Sunday, particularly from those districts who rely on tourism.

“This Bill will give those districts the choice of how to respond to that demand though their local councils.

Nobody expects to fall overboard or their boat to sink. But, if you end up in the water, you have much more chance of saving yourself - and those on board with you - if you’re wearing a lifejacket.Lifejackets won’t save you unless you wear them. The Marlborough navigation bylaws require that all vessels have the sufficient number, size and type of lifejackets for everyone on the vessel. The Harbour Master has a zero tolerance approach to this rule. Anyone found to be in charge of a vessel without enough lifejackets on board will be issued an infringement notice and face a $200 penalty. That includes dinghies and kayaksIn the interests of safety it is strongly recommended that, on vessels under 6m, everyone should wear a lifejacket at all times while at sea.Lifejackets can be the difference between surviving and drowning• Lady Elizabeth IV and Coastguard

Donald Duck helps bring home the water safety message to Picton by wearing his life jacket. Harbour masters Luke Grogan (left) and Alex van Wijngaarden had a little help from Josh and Izac McLeod to get the duck to wear his flotation gear.“Donald couldn’t be persuaded to raise his arms to allow us to strap his jacket on properly but we hope that everyone realises that a life jacket is no use unless it’s on and properly secured,” said Captain Grogan.

Fantastic with kidsHaley from the Stadium Swim School you are fantastic. You have such a way with the kids. You seem to handle your classes with ease, keeping all the kids in line and your humour is great. You have really helped to ease my boys nerves about swimming. He absolutely adores you and loves swimming now! Thank you from one very happy Mum.

Thanks to all the staff who made my hospital stay on October 7th, very com-fortable! From the Day Stay staff to Theatre staff, to the Anaesthetist, to the Surgeon and lovely Recovery Room Nurse. And with no exception the ward staff who made me feel safe and cared for. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are not worth your weight in gold! You work tirelessly day and NIGHT! So for those in our community who like to criticize our local Healthcare facility and the staff..... Think again! We have the best!

Thank you to Wairau Hospital

Give him a goAlready there’s negativity re the new MDC chief, before he’s even started in that role - c’mon, give the guy a chance.

Leave them at homeWe’ve been told numerous times about the danger of leaving dogs in cars in hot weather, but this week alone, I saw four instances of dogs shut in, with only a small gap left open. Each time, it was at the supermarket. What is it with some people? Why not leave their dog at home when shop-ping? I do.

Excellent, timely serviceWe are new Marlburians and are totally gob-smacked by the constant negative comments by some about service here - lack of it or bad. Our experience is the absolute opposite. We have had excellent, timely service from everyone. Keep up the good work Blenheim businesses! Maybe some consumers need to change their attitudes!

Re comments from #fedup complaining about lack of honest reliable tradesmen. We moved to Blenheim last year and EVERY tradesman we have dealt with has been excellent. Blown away by service given by retailers and tradies in Blenheim. I suggest you shop around if not happy!

Lovely ladyIt’s a bit delayed but I’d like to thank a great person named Keri who saw myself, friend and my four boys get a taxi to the supermarket so she waited and gave us a ride home and ended up giving me $15 for the taxi fee..still amazed about this.Thank-you!!!

Worth a visitJays wonderful coffee, great service awesome cooked breakfast, definitely will visit next trip back.

Too many coffee shopsWould Thomas’s like it if coffee shops sold clothing?Shame really we all trying to make a living.

Behind the timesAustralia bit behind the times with green lip mussels being good in powder form for arthritis. We knew that 20 plus years ago.

Great food but Gramados is fabulous food, fabulous service and noisy. Enjoy the culture. Love it

Transfer station rip off....I agree totally! Councils charging such exces-sively ridiculous costs for dumping a trailer load of rubbish! No wonder people are dumping rubbish on river beds and places hidden from sight from the public view.$76 just to empty your trailer ???! Does the over paid council staff understand the low income rate paying people can’t afford such extravagant charges? ??$25 is all it should cost across the board for dumping as we already paying for the rub-bish to be dumped as it gets picked up every Monday morning! I won’t pay that much to empty my trailer if it’s that much! So expect a lot of rubbish bags out the front of my house Monday morning council!

Over qualifiedPretty sure we still have free speech in this country, it’s only my opinion. It’s good to see the fish still bite in Blenheim.Lucky we do have the dole yes, for those who truly need it.Not for the ones who abuse it and use it as their wage every week because they are too lazy to work.

At one time I was on the dole out of neces-sity BUT got myself back off it asap by getting whatever job I could.Dole should be a short term solution, maybe to get things back on track BUT definitely not a lifestyle.

24 hours?McDonalds advertise saying open 24hrs drive through? Yeah right. Drove around twice on Wednesday 6am - no response! So drove off.

Devonshire TeaHad a lovely Devonshire Tea @ ‘Pataka’ but bit disappointed the cream wasn’t real and came out of a can !

Two young friends from the North Island have come to Have-lock to open their first ever cafe, Apples for Charlotte.

Tessa Matthews and Shannon Prouse opened their cafe on October 1 after weeks of pouring every ounce of their love for all things vintage and shabby chic into it.

Right from the furniture through to the baking, Tessa and Shannon are proud of what they have created.

“We both love vintage and have spent years collecting bits and pieces, so when it came to opening the cafe we already had everything we needed.

“The furniture we painted, re upholstered and repaired our-selves, with help from family of

course. We are both quite skilled at using belt sanders and power drills now,” they laugh.

Everything on the menu the girls bake themselves, including

the breads which they knead by hand.

They make everything from bagels and fresh salads to cakes, decorated biscuits, cookies and

old fashioned lemonade. There is also a selection of

high teas available which have already proved popular in the three weeks they have been open.

Outside the girls have built a pallet wall garden where they grow their own herbs, lettuce and spinach.

“It’s neat to be able to grow our own produce.”

Tessa and Shannon first met in 2009 doing theatre in Wanganui and became instant friends.

Their love of tea parties saw them open up a market stall where they sold their baking for around a year.

It wasn’t until Tessa’s father told them about empty shops in Havelock that they decided to open their cafe.

Apples for Charlotte is open Tuesday to Sunday.

Vintage cafe opens

Tessa Matthews and Shannon Prouse have opened a vintage themed cafe in Havelock called Apples for Charlotte.

Marlborough man Tre-vor May was considered an icon of the New Zea-land vintage car scene.

Trevor died last month at age 89, after spend-ing his whole life in Marlborough.

He worked at Lucas Brothers almost ex-clusively except for 12 months working at Mc-Kendry Motors.

He built cars and trac-tors with Ted Lucas, was one of the originals who

set up Brayshaw Park and was a founding member of the Marlborough

branch of the New Zea-land Vintage Car Club.

Club member Trevor Harris says he loved Ford cars and helped restore a 1918 Model T that he then drove around at organised events.

He was also an integral part of the club’s spare parts department.

“Trev was excellent at naming and understand-ing a part,” he says.

“You could almost give it to him blind folded

and he’d still know what it was.

“He was one of those blokes who always had time to help out…A car enthusiast and a gentle-man.”

Daughter, Veronica May says her father was very active.

“He restored many cars.

“We lived continually with them being restored in our garage.

“He did live all his life

in Blenheim but had one lovely trip to Europe with his wife Mary who survived him and is cur-rently living at Redwood-town Village.

“I asked him why he had never left Blenheim and if he wanted to at some time?

“He said ‘no why would I? Marlborough has eve-rything here’. “

He went to Springlands School then Marlborough Boys’ College.

Rembrandt Remastered is an ode to one of the greatest European artists: Rembrandt, who made 330 paintings in his life.

Celebrate this incredible exhibition at the Nelson Provincial Museum.

The paintings are now spread over the whole world in national art galleries as well as private collections, some of which are very difficult to access by the public.

Other important Rembrandt paintings have been damaged or stolen, the original mastery no longer being accessible to viewers today.

Thanks to the latest techniques in digital photography and the inexhaustible knowledge of Professor Ernst van de Wetering of the ac-

claimed Rembrandt Research Project, this exhibition offers the spectacular opportunity to see a group of Rembrandt’s masterpieces digitally restored to their original condition as if they had just left Rembrandt’s studio.

The images are full size and displayed in chronological order with accompanying text that tells the story of the individual pictures and his compelling life.

The Nelson Provincial Museum is located on the corner of Trafalgar and Hardy Streets, Nelson, where there are two main gallery spaces featuring the Regional History gallery and temporary exhibitions, a classroom, museum shop and rooftop garden, and an excellent cafe attached right next door.

Put this on your must-see list for your next visit to Nelson.

Museum a must-see

Warm spring and summer temperatures and cooking food outdoors provide the ideal situation for pathogens to multiply and cause foodborne illness.

That means you need to take special care when preparing, cooking and storing food for a barbecue.

The Marlborough Vintage & Farm Machin-ery Society in conjunction with Tua Marina Vintage Farm Machinery are holding a 50th anniversary celebration over the weekend of October 31 and November 1 at Brayshaw Park.

As well as having most of our vintage machinery on outside display, organisers are hoping that many clubs from around New Zealand bring some of their machinery to display along side of it.

There will be a huge working steam engine which will be fired up, the Society’s restored cottage will be open for viewing and there will be butter and cheese making.

The historic smithy will be in full operation as well as the vintage school bus for rides around the site. With craft stalls, rides and demonstrations throughout the day, there is plenty to see for all ages.

Open both days 10am – 3pm. Lots of fun for all the family.

Heritage milestone

Local markets with plenty to see

If you plan to head away or into the outdoors on Marlborough Anniversary Weekend, make sure you take precautions and stay safe.

The New Zealand Mountain Safety Council (MSC) is encouraging people to plan and prepare before heading outdoors.

MSC Chief Executive Mike Daisley says it doesn’t matter whether people are heading out for a few hours or several days, or how experienced they are, preparation is essential to ensure a safe, enjoyable trip.

Mr Daisley encourages people to plan their trip, tell someone, be aware of the weather, know your limits and take suf-ficient supplies

Will you be heading out in your car this summer? Then make sure your vehicle is safe and roadworthy by having it inspected and serviced.

Getting your car ready now will reduce the chances of something going wrong when you’re on the road, giving you the reassurance you need to get on with enjoying your summer holiday.

Below is a checklist of just some of the things that need to be carefully monitored in the warmer months.

Cooling systems Cooling systems need to be checked for

leaks, and to make sure hoses are secure and in good condition. If the coolant water has not been changed within the past two years, the cooling system needs to be drained, flushed and refilled with clean water and the correct coolant additive.

Cambelts and fan belts Cambelt and fan belt failure is common.

If you don’t know when they were last changed, these should be checked.

This is also a good time to have other drive belts checked for damage.

Air and fuel filters

Air filters need to be checked and, if necessary, replaced. As fuel filters are usu-ally sealed units, they can’t be checked for blockages so should be replaced regularly.

Spark plugs Worn spark plugs can lead to engines

misfiring and the eventual breakdown of the high tension leads, so check and replace if necessary.

Engine and transmission oilEngine and transmission needs to be

checked for oil leakage. If the engine oil and oil filter hasn’t been changed within the past 12 months, have it done.

WheelsWheels should be removed so that your

brake condition can be checked.Tyres Tyres must be checked for excessive or

unusual wear patterns and for any lumps or tread distortion, as well as pressure. And don’t forget the spare.

ExhaustExhaust leaks can cause deadly carbon

monoxide fumes to build up in the cabin, leading to a loss of engine power. They also increase fuel consumption.

Proper maintenance is key to performance & energy usage.

Being spring, chances are you have a long list of jobs to do in and around your home.

If you plan to put your feet up and relax these summer holidays, you should start ticking off that list.

Here are a few ideas to help get you motivated.• Most importantly, test smoke/carbon diox-

ide detectors and where necessary have the batteries replaced.

If you don’t have any or enough smoke detectors, get some!

• Vacuum your refrigerator coils. Over time, the coils get dirty and your fridge requires more energy. You can save money by doing this.

• Check the exterior drainage and clean out gutters.

• Get your air conditioning system installed or serviced for summer. Getting it serviced by a professional will save money and headaches down the road.

• Clear dead plants/shrubs from the house.• Check trees for interference with electric

lines. Have them professionally trimmed if necessary.

• Inspect roofing for damage or leaks and have them repaired and repainted.

• Have your house sprayed for bugs and insects before they come out in force.

White tail spiders, ants and cockroaches don’t need an invitation to invade.

Testing and replacing smoke alarms in your home should be a top priority.

Spraying will take place over much of the farm park however a major focus will be within the Quail Stream and Sutherland stream catchments and a strip along the eastern boundary of the mountain bike park.It is recommended for members of the

public to avoid these areas during this period. It is not envisaged that any areas will be closed to the public but closures may be enforced if required to ensure the health and safety of all members of the public. The Moody effectsports talk

The All Blacks’ quarterfinal fabulous win over France showed the value of the ITM Cup rugby competition.

Already the envy of the rest of the rugby world the provincial competition allows not only future All Blacks a stage in which to shine, it has in World Cup years, allowed those players on the fringes to remain match fit in case injury cover was needed.

Rake Canterbury’s Joe Moody. The big prop was called in pre

match for the injured Tony Wood-cock and then ended up playing 60 minutes when Wyatt Crocket was injured midway through the first half at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.

Moody had been a regular starter for Canterbury after nar-rowly missing out on World Cup selection.

He and players like Cory Jane, Jeremy Thrush, Ryan Crotty and the now injured Israel Dagg have at least been playing a decent standard of rugby just in case injury cover was needed.

Moody showed the value of it on Sunday morning.

He did his job well, was industri-ous around the park, scrummed well and hit the ruck clean-outs hard.

While he admitted post-match he was tired, the ITM Cup at least ensured he was match fit although perhaps not All Black fit.

It was an admirable effort on short notice.

Should injury strike again, and the statistics suggest it will, then it is good to know ready replace-ments can step up.

On a side note, how good do Wellington loose forward Ardie Savea and his Auckland counter-part Akira Ioane look?

Those two look like future All Blacks and it won’t be the distant future either.

That’s the joy of the ITM Cup, new talent is unearthed and older players return to give back to their provinces.

The All Blacks by plenty on the weekend – time to be positive and not hyper-critical for once.

The Marlborough Corporate Rowing 8s regatta was held at the Wairau Rowing club on Saturday to signify the start of the local rowing season.

Ten teams contested some tight racing with three weeks of on water training being all the practise the non-rowers had to sort out their timing and team work.

Overall title winners were PGG Wright-son Omaka Jets who became the first team to win both the ERG night challenge

and the on water event.Team spokesman Simon Cooke says the

strong Powered Electrics team fought hard and were evenly matched for the first half of the race until the PGG Wrightson team were able to pull away to win by a length at the line.

The Wairau Rowing club are keen to have more entries from local business next year in what is a prestigious event on the local sporting calendar.

Double for Omaka JetsThe victorious PGG Wrightson Omaka Jets.

By Jacob PageWill Exton believes he can be the South

Island Junior Vortex mini rok kart champion by the end of the weekend.

The 11-year-old Marlburian is one of 90 competitors at the Wadsco Motor World South Island Sprint meeting in being hosted by the KartSport Marlborough Club at its Cresswell Electrical Kart Raceway in Blenheim.

Will has been doing karting for more than three years, following in the footsteps of his father Gareth.

Will was one of many who began testing at the track yesterday with racing to be held tomorrow and Sunday.

“I really enjoy going fast and I want to win the whole thing,” Will says.

A fan of British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, Will says he enjoys motorsport and is looking forward to seeing how far he goes with it.

There will be four grades raced each day.One of the key storylines at the South Island

title meeting in Blenheim, meanwhile, will be if multi-time South Island class cham-pion Chris Cox from Rangiora can repeat his three-class title haul from the 2014 meeting in Dunedin.

While a number of drivers contest two classes, Cox is one of the only ones to attempt three at the one meeting, yet last year he not only did it, he also won each class - KZ2,

100cc Yamaha Light and 125cc Rotax Max Light - he contested.

He’s not the only driver at the South Islands this year to attempt three classes either, fel-low Cantabrian Matthew Hamilton has also entered the KZ2 and Rotax and Yamaha Light classes.

Another interesting fact is that the South Is-land title meeting has again attracted a number of entries from the North Island.

Traditionally, most drivers stick to their ‘Island of Origin’ but there is no rule which states you have to, so each year one or two karters swap Islands.

Will has the need for speed

Will Exton will be a contender at the Wadsco Motor World South Island Sprint meeting in Blenheim this weekend.

Hyundai Motorsport has today announced it has signed a new three-year contract with Hayden Paddon that will see the popular New Zealander contest all rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with the team from 2016.Paddon, who initially joined Hyundai Motorsport for a six-rally campaign in 2014 and has been running an expanded programme of twelve WRC events this season, will step up to a full time role from Rallye Monte-Carlo in January alongside his co-driver John Kennard.

Paddon and Kennard get three year WRC deal
