USED JOB SHACK SSP STUDY GUIDE:If you really want a career with this company it is to your benefit to know who they are, what they do, how well they do it and what is their future.

Why should you put in all this extra effort for another interview at another cooking facility? If you don’t already know the answer to this…you are in the wrong spot, reading the wrong thing. To humor you…let’s go through this again:

A. They have just received an 11 year contract with Sky Harbor.B. Since they have been here less than 6 months…they are not going

anywhere for a long time and that gives you STABILITY!C. They are young here in the valley but, already, have a rep for promoting

from within. Many of the people who went to the initial rounds of interviews (several months back) have already been promoted to leads or supervisors.

D. They offer benefits from day one.E. They are ONLY one-third full on their staffing.

WHO ARE THEY? How long have they been in business? How many countries are they in? What are their two “catch phrases?” (What two things are their passions?)

Page 4: 24 april 2013

How do they see themselves? They are _________ of the ________ Food Industry.

How strongly do they believe in TEAM WORK and how does that work for them?

WHO ARE YOU? Do you share their passions? In what way(s)? Be able to explain how that

has an effect upon the quality of your effort at work? Do you have direct, prior experience in the industry? Related industry? DEPENDING UPON POSITION. COOKING: Do you have 6months to a year of

work experience? Do you have a specialty? Do you know what restaurants that they are cooking for? How and why would you be good at a specific restaurant or better still in all around cooking?

DEPENDING UPON POSITION.CASHIERING/HOST/RETAIL SALES ASSOCIATE: Can you operate a POS (point-of-sales) cash register? Do you have good cash handling skills? How good are you on handling/dealing with complaints?

Would the airport be an exciting place to work? If so, please explain why. Are you a people person? Do you enjoy and work will in a constantly

changing setting? Can you work under pressure? Please be able to have an example or two that demonstrated this.

What does customer service mean to you and how do you make that a part of how you do your job?

What is your concept of team work and how does this affect your daily work?

Have an example in how team work made the difference at being successful.

SECURITY: Are you able to pass a Homeland Security Background Test? Drug Test? Do you have or can assemble a list of places that you have lived and

worked for the past ten years? Do you already have an AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card? Do you have an

AZDPS Security Guard License?

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DRESS TO APPLY?Please remember that they are a very large company and that these positions are NOT at their commissary but, at the airport. How well you present yourself is a factor in the decision making to hire you or not. Dress should be AZ Casual or above. This needs to be “going to work” clothes not “going to the club” or “hanging out at the park” style of fashion.

Sales Associate at Sports AuthorityAccepted Offer – Interviewed Apr 8, 2013Interview Details – I applied the first time in person and called about a week and a half later. interview. I met with the store manager and he gave me a fairly quick and easy interview. He asked if I had prior retail experience and how free my schedule was for shifts.Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation since I hadn't had any retail experience before. I was offered minimum wage and I accepted.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sales Associate at Sports AuthorityAccepted Offer – Interviewed Jan 3, 2013Interview Details – Called the day after I applied to set up and interview. When I went in I first met with the area supervisor of the position I was applying for, then I interviewed with the store manager (same day). After the interviews I was required to take a drug test that same day. Once my drug test came back clear I was told I got the job and I needed to fill out some paperwork. I went in exactly when they told me, and I was turned away because "the system was down" (I do wish they had called me to let me know this). A few days later I went back in and completed my paperwork. Shortly after that I started work.Interview Question –

How would you suggest additional merchandise to a customer? Due to the position of Sales Specialist it was required to take a 2 part interview/personality/knowledge test before the application would be accepted. About 2 weeks later I received a call from local HR Manager to set up person to person interview. The interview was with the HR Manager and the Store Manager. Very informal in nature, both were very pleasant to talk with. When questions began each would take turns asking what I would call STAR interview questions. Also questions about my knowledge of products and the store. Asked me to sell them a cabinet job. Interview lasted about 30 minutes. Was told there were several more candidates still to be interviewed. I got a call later the same day offering me the position. Gave HR some more information so a background check could be performed. Two days later was called in for drug test. Two days

later was called and told what pay scale would be which was close to what I was expecting and to come in for processing to begin.Interview Question – They asked several questions about problems you faced and how you reacted to them. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Head Cashier at Lowe'sAccepted Offer – Interviewed Apr 11, 2013 Interview Details –I applied online on a Friday and by Monday got a phone call for an interview. Two days after the interview I got an email saying they went with another candidate. A day after getting that email I had gotten a phone call from the HR about a morning stock position. I did not accept it because of the current job I have that I planned to keep. Three days after that the HR called me again to offer me a seasonal part time cashier position. I decided to accept the offer. The interview with the HR went well and i knew that walking out of the interview with her. The interview with the assistant store manager was extremely awkward. He did not have a conversation with me. It was he asked the question, I would answer, and then he would go straight to the next question. Coming out of that interview I did not have confidence it went well. The questions in the interview were your typical scenario type questions. For ex:

Tell me of a time you had to work with a co-worker and what was the outcome? Tell me of a time you made a mistake and what was the outcome?

Tell me of a time you had an upset customer and how did you try to solve the problem?

Why do you want to work for this company?Interview Question –

Explain a time you had made a mistake. How did you fix it? What was the outcome of the situation?
