24.1 Overview of the IPoA/PPPoA Service

The UA5000 supports conversion between IPoA/PPPoA and IPoE/PPPoE. With this function, IPoA/PPPoA subscribers can access the IP network at the upper layer. This enhances the access ability and network compatibility of the UA5000.

Table 24–1 shows the commands for IPoA/PPPoA protocol conversion.

When configuring the IPoA/PPPoA access services, you need to configure MAC address pools. The MAC address pools are used in conversion of the IPoA/PPPoA packet format.

Table 24–2 shows the commands for configuring MAC address pools.

24.2 IPoA/PPPoA Configuration Procedure

The procedure for configuring IPoA/PPPoA access services is as follows.

1) Configure xDSL ports for accessing IPoA/PPPoA services. 2) Create a VLAN and configure an upstream port and a virtual service port for the

VLAN. 3) Configure a MAC address pool. 4) Enable the switch for IPoA/PPPoA protocol conversion. 5) Configure a default gateway for IPoA subscribers. 6) Configure the encapsulation type for IPoA/PPPoA access services. 7) Save the data.

24.3 IPoA/PPPoA Configuration Example

This section gives an example to show how to configure IPoA and PPPoA services.

24.3.1 Networking

Figure 24–1 shows the networking of IPoA/PPPoA access services.

In the networking, the service data is planned as follows:

IPoA/PPPoA services access the UA5000 through the ADSL ports 0/7/0 and 0/9/0 respectively, and then go upstream to the IP network through the IP port 0/3/0.

The IPoA services go upstream from VLAN 20, which is a Smart VLAN. The PPPoA services go upstream from VLAN 30, which is a MUX VLAN. The default gateway of the IPoA services is 10.1.1.1. The start MAC address in the MAC address pool is 1000-0000-0000.

24.3.2 Configuration Procedure

I. Configuring an ADSL port

All ADSL ports in this example use the default settings. When the line and the opposite Modems are normal, the ADSL port is in the active state.

II. Creating a VLAN and configure an upstream port and a virtual service port for the VLAN

The VLAN can be a MUX VLAN or a Smart VLAN.

III. Configuring a MAC address pool

Configure a MAC address pool with the number of 0, and set its start MAC address as 1000-0000-0000.

huawei(config)#mac-pool 0 1000-0000-0000

IV. Configuring IPoA access services

1) Enable the switch for IPoA protocol conversion. huawei(config)#ipoa enable

2) Configure a default gateway for the IPoA service. huawei(config)#ipoa default gateway 10.1.1.1

3) Configure the encapsulation type for IPoA services of the ADSL port 0/7/0 as logical link control (LLC). huawei(config)#encapsulation

Note:

You must set the source and destination IP addresses for the IPoA subscriber when setting the encapsulation type.

You need not configure the destination IP address for the IPoA subscriber if a default gateway has been configured for the IPoA service.

You need not configure the source IP address if the Modem can automatically report the IP address.

After you successfully configure IPoA service encapsulation for the specified xDSL port, you must change the encapsulation type to LLC bridge. Otherwise, you cannot delete the virtual service port.

V. Configuring the PPPoA access service

1) Enable the switch for PPPoA protocol conversion.

2) Set the encapsulation type for PPPoA services on the ADSL port 0/9/0 as LLC. huawei(config)#encapsulation

Note:

After you successfully configure PPPoA service encapsulation for the specified xDSL port, you must change the encapsulation type to LLC bridge. Otherwise, you cannot to delete the virtual service port.

VI. Saving the data

After the services are successfully configured, you can query all IPoA/PPPoA online subscribers.
