Brother Knights and families, R eflecting upon all the things plaster- ing the media about our election sea- son we can become angry or at least dis- illusioned. So much bickering, fighting, infighting and uncharitable comments, actions and everything in between. As a priest it is difficult to be optimistic with either republicans or democrats in our largely two party system. However as Catholics we should not be loyal to any party at least so much so that we disre- gard the bad, and at times downright evil that may present itself in either case. Tra- ditionally since Catholics are called to a deeper loyalty to Christ and the Church he has founded we have been on the fringe of society and slightly outcasts. This is why it was a big deal that John F. Kennedy was voted the first Catholic president in a traditionally protestant land. We were regarded with suspicion and fear with regard to our loyalty to the Pope and the Catholic Church at large. I believe there is still some animos- ity towards us as Catholics but not so much anymore. With so many people and Catholics alike that are heavily influ- enced by subjectivism and relativism we do not see this animosity. Many Catho- lics since Humane Vitae, including some priests and bishops, have dissented from Church teaching especially contracep- tion, sexual ethics and abortion. Many left the Church, but many lingered, still dissenting and justified such dissent through skeptical philosophy, theology, and “science”. This climate has radically fizzled in many place but their remains pockets throughout the church in many places and the reason is the beauty of the As you can see we need hands to serve food, money to clothe the kids, people to pray for the unborn and the health of all. Jesus, touch us to rec- ognize the opportunity for the everyday miracles. God Bess you all! Churches teaching on Theology of the Body which began with now St. John Paul II and made popular by many in the past few decades. The point I want to make is that the Church is recovering from the dissent and really discovering the beau- ty of its teaching, while the culture has largely gotten worse. This has resulted in deeper conflict between the church and the secularist mainstream culture. May- be this isn’t news to you but it is good to keep in mind. The mainstream media wants to drive a wedge between Catho- lics and their Pope the rock of Peter who steadys the ship and plants us in the Lord’s unchanging, unshaking will. The next time you see something say- ing the Church might change its teaching on X don’t be deceived. There is probably more to the story and it may be a half truth or even less than that. Church teaching is always consistent with what was said in the past and everything has to be weighed by what has always been taught. If its scripture and the Church has confirmed it then it cannot be changed. In 2015 the clinic performed 1,039 abortions - in our backyard! The clinic is the third largest provider of abortions in the state of Minnesota. The 10 hours will be broken into five 2-hour prayer vigils. Two hours of prayer may save a life of a child. We are holding the vigil in support of the "40 Days for Life" international effort that has had great success in reducing the number of abortions, closing abortion facilities across the United States and encouraging employees to find alternate work. With God's blessings, SVDP expe- rienced a baby save during our 2015 prayer vigil. Also, our efforts helped to close the abortion center at Region's Hospital located in St Paul, MN. son we can become angry or at least dis-illusioned. So much bickering, fighting, infighting and uncharitable comments, actions and everything in between. As a priest it is difficult to be optimistic with either republicans or democrats in our largely two party system. However as Catholics we should not be loyal to any party at least so much so that we disre-gard the bad, and at times downright evil that may present itself in either case. Lion's Roar recap I would like to thank all the Knights and

family members who helped at the Lion's Roar. Thank you to Chairperson Kelvin Landeis also Patti Landeis for taking pictures and thanks to Knights Rick Bergen use of his car, Ryan and Alyssa Johnson, Bill Peloquin, Jack, David, and Rachel Barr for all your help with the parade. I thank Darrel Healy for co-chair tent set up Friday a.m. and Saturday p.m. tear down along with the 18 Knights who helped. In the Pull Tab booth thank you Kevin and Shari Ahlers and the 11 Knights and family members that helped out. As you can see it takes many hands to make an event successful.
