Cleveland POPS Orchestra is a (501)(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Cleveland POPS’ 13th season. Our concert themes this year are a blend of the familiar – like “An Old-Fashioned Valentine” and “Rodgers and Hammerstein” and the new and different – like “Cirque de la Symphonie” and “Bella Notte.” We have engaged a variety of outstanding guest artists, such as Classical Mystery Tour, Saxton’s Cornet Band and the 3 Redneck Tenors, who bring a very special brand of great entertainment to our stage. We welcome renowned tenor Carl Tanner for an evening of Italian favorites. We also look forward to a visit from President Abraham Lincoln on the occasion of his 200th Birthday. Many musical delights. Many entertainment surprises. You won’t want to miss any of it. Please detach the wallet-sized card below as a guide, and reminder of the dates and themes of our exciting 2008-2009 season. Sincerely,

BELLA NOTTE an evening in Italy

Venice, Naples, Rome, the sights, sounds and, especially the music of Italy is intoxicating. Tonight, we toast the music of Italy with popular arias and ballads you will all recognize and sing along. Carl Topilow conducts the Cleveland POPS in an evening of Italian favorites, featuring the beautiful voices of reigning American tenor Carl Tanner and fast-rising American soprano Laura Pedersen. You’ll hear familiar arias from “Turandot,” “La Boheme,” “Pagliacci,” along with beautifully sung Neapolitan ballads. This is truly a night for Bravo, Brava and Bravi!

9th ANNUAL SALUTE TO OUR ARMED FORCES

Friday, May 22, 2009 8 pm Severance Hall Subscription concert

Join Carl Topilow and the POPS for a “surprise” 200th birthday party in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. Meet our sixteenth president in person and experience music by our guest artists, Saxton’s Cornet Band, who recreate with astounding accuracy the band music Abe heard during his stay at the White House. The amazing Mutual Gifts Gospel Choir will also be featured. Hear the theme from the movie “Gettysburg,” Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait,” the infamous P.D.Q. Bach’s “1712 Overture.” “The Ashokan Farewell,” Sousa marches, spirituals, plus a rousing audience sing-along.
