Hard working brickwork student and Harry Fairclough Construction Ltd apprentice Jordan Ireland has been recognised by industry specialists with a gold medal  at both the SkillBuild North West Bricklaying Competition and the Guild of Bricklayers North West Competition.

Jordan’s success means that he qualified for both national finals and after impressing the judges at the recent Guild of Bricklayers Final, Jordan was awarded a bronze medal against tough competition from some of the best bricklayers across the country with his second national final due to take place later on in the year. Darren Moore, Programme Area Leader for Construction and Engineering at Riverside College, said “I am over the moon with what Jordan has achieved. Winning one major competition was great news but to continue with his winning streak is outstanding achievement! He has approached all of the competitions with a very professional attitude and it has paid o for him and his employers Harry Fairclough Construction, who are very proud of what he has achieved.”

Students and sta celebrated the opening of the outdoor activity area at St Michael’s Catholic Primary School in Widnes after they joined the community project and helped to make the dream of an adventurous outdoor space a reality for the primary pupils. It is an excellent opportunity for the joinery students to put into practice the skills and knowledge they have developed during their time at college.
