    GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES FOR PROVISIONAL REGISTRATION IN PH.D.

    All the candidates, who are eligible for Provisional Registration, after clearing the interviews of Dec.2010 session,

    or after this, can fill their Provisional Registration Form as per the following guidelines:

    1. The Provisional Registration Form can be filled any-time, within the validity period of Interview Result(i.e. within 2 years, from the date of declaration of Interview Result).

    2. If the Provisional Registration Form is filled two months before the start of any semester of regular coursesrunning in PTU, as per the Academic Calendar, the candidate can start his/her Ph.D. course work from that

    particular semester.

    3. The Provisional Registration Form is to be filled online, only by the eligible candidates, through alreadyavailable log-ins at University website, under the link of Ph.D. Admissions.

    4. Candidates are required to follow the following instructions, while filling-up the online provisional registrationform:

    (a) Candidates are required to go through the Ph.D. Regulations (available in Ph.D. Admissions link atwww.ptu.ac.in) carefully, before filling-up the online provisional registration form.

    (b)Log-in with your already available

    User Nameand

    Password.

    (c) After log-in, at Home, click at the link for filling-up the Provisional Registration Form.(d) Fill your information in all the columns from Step 1 to Step 7, and click at Save, before moving to next

    step. Nothing is to be filled at Step 1, as this information is already available in database.

    (e) The list of University approved Supervisors with their Supervisor IDs, is available at University website.The Candidates, who have got the consent of Supervisor for their Ph.D. work, will have to obtain

    Certificate from Supervisor and from Co-supervisor, if any (Format is available at University website).

    (f) If the name of the supervisor is not there in the list, he/she may send the completely filled SupervisorApproval Form (Format is available at University website), to Dean (Academics).

    (g) The candidates will have to opt for the supervisor ID (or opt forSupervisor Approval Form attached, ifSupervisor is not already approved), while filling-up the online Provisional Registration Form and all the

    details of already approved supervisor will automatically appear in the form. If the supervisor is not

    approved, the details of the supervisor and co-supervisor (if any) will have to be filled manually in the

    print-out of the Provisional Registration Form, by the candidate.

    (h) Candidate can make changes in the form, before locking it for printing, by again starting filling-up theform from Step 1 and then clicking at Update to save the changes made, at each step.

    (i) Candidates are required to check all the fields in the Form Preview carefully, before Locking it, for takingthe Print-out of the Provisional Registration Form. After locking the Form, No changes can be made in the

    Form, by the candidate. If there is any problem in the online module, candidates can send their request to

    (j) The Provisional Registration Fee of Rs.10,000/- and Form Fee of Rs.50/- (Total Rs.10,050/-) is to bedeposited at PTU, after getting the completely filled printed form checked by the dealing clerk, in the

    department of Academics at PTU.

    (k) The Fee Receipt No. and Date will be filled manually by the candidate in the Provisional RegistrationForm, after depositing the applicable fee in accounts section of PTU.

    (l) Provisional Registration Form (complete in all respect, alongwith the fee receipt and all the requisite self-attested documents) is to be submitted in the office ofDean (Academics), Punjab Technical University,

    Jalandhar-Kapurthala Highway, Kapurthala-144601.

    5. Candidature of any candidate can be cancelled anytime, if any information provided in the ProvisionalRegistration Form proves to be incorrect at any stage.

    6. Candidates are required to be in touch with the University website (www.ptu.ac.in) for any generalinformation. All the information related to Ph.D. Provisional Registration or Ph.D. Course Work Subject

    Allotment etc. will be sent at the registered e-mail IDs of the candidates . Therefore, the candidates are

    required to keep their registered e-mail IDs active, in order to keep the proper communication with thedepartment. No separate letters will be sent to any candidate. Request for change of e-mail ID must be sent

    to the Dean Academics, PTU, in case, the candidate wants to update his/her e-mail ID. In such cases, the

    candidates are required to ensure themselves that whether the e-mail ID has got updated in the University

    Records or not.

    7. As per Ph.D. Regulations of PTU, two subjects are being offered to the Ph.D. candidates, for the course work.One of the subjects shall be on research methodology, which is compulsory to all the Ph.D. candidates and

    for second subject, supervisor will send his/her recommendations, while considering the tentative topic and

    the area of the Research to be carried-out by the candidate. As per the recommendations of the supervisor for

    second subject allotment, the topic and area of research of the candidate, a committee of Chairman BOS or

    senior member of BOS and the Dean Research or his Nominee may approve this subject. The courses should

    be of post graduation level as per the PTU nomenclature.

    8. To speed-up the process of subject allotment, candidates are required to contact their respective supervisor, tosend the recommendations for the second subject of Ph.D. course work. The list of subjects, which will be

    offered at various Regional Centres of PTU, in the coming semester, is available at University website .

    The supervisors are required to send the recommendations (format attached at Annexure-A), regarding

    the two choices for second subject of Ph.D. Course work of his/her candidate from this list, alongwith the

    Provisional Registration Form. The subjects to be recommended are to be chosen by the supervisors, from

    various post-graduation level courses, already running at various Regional Centres of PTU or at any AICTE

    approved college, affiliated to PTU. If no relevant course of post-graduation level is running in PTU, like that

    of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics etc., the supervisor may propose the new subject name with complete

    syllabus (including the list of reference books), as per the topic and field of research of the candidate, which, if

    approved by the committee, will be further sent to BOS for approval.

    9. On successful submission of Provisional Registration Form, the subject allotment e-mail alongwithProvisional Registration Number will be sent to the candidates, at their registered e-mail ID , before the

    start of coming semester.

    10.Candidates will have to join the classes of course work, as per the subject allotment, intimated by the office ofDean Academics, PTU and the candidates will have to ensure that the respective Regional Centre or AICTE

    approved College, affiliated to PTU, has sent the report of their joining of course work.

    11.After completion of course work, internal and external papers will have to be cleared by obtaining minimumgrades in the papers, separately, as per the Ph.D. Regulations.

    12.Successful candidates will be eligible for submission of synopsis and to pursue thesis work, as per the Ph.D.Regulations.
