Catechetical Sunday, September 20, 2015
Today, parishes across the country honor those who share in the evangelizing and teaching mission of the Church through a spe-cial rite of commissioning and blessing. Here at St. Lucy Parish the catechists and teachers are commissioned to share the faith of the Church with the adults, families, youth, and children of the parish and school.
This year the theme of the Catechetical Sunday is "Safeguarding the Dignity of Every Human Person" Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.
When we proclaim that we are “One Body in Christ” we are united in our mission to serve where each of us has a mission from God to help build the Kingdom of Heaven as we respond to His call. This weekend we are called to a unity that spans the globe as we support both in prayer and financial stewardship the refugees from the Middle East.
At the request of our Holy Father Francis our Bishop Patrick, along with other bishops throughout the world, has asked the faithful to respond to this call. Today we will take time in each Mass to pray for the grace of God to bless and touch each person affected by this terrible tragedy. Prayer is a powerful tool and I would invite each of us to bring this blessing to our daily prayers for both those who suffer and those who are the cause of the suffering.
Second we are asking you to share your treasure to help relieve this terrible crisis. Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is already working on the ground both in the Middle East and Europe to offer the hand of Jesus, the love of Jesus and the mercy of Jesus to those who are now without a home. The works of mercy that are being done, on behalf the Catholic Church, are shown to all people who are in need of care. Pope Francis in his recent Encyclical Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home, he reminded the world that if we do not first care for our brothers and sisters then we are unable to fully live our Christian vocation. Please join me in supporting this im-portant cause.

SVDP Outreach Corner
We want to thank the people of St. Lucy Par-ish for their support of our programs with over $2500 in funds from the collection made to St. Vincent de Paul in August. These funds will help us keep our neighbors in need in their homes and for supplying food for those who are hungry that come to our door. We also want to thank those of you who donate food each third Sunday of the month. This helps with our efforts to provide a bag of food for all of those individuals and families that ask for something to eat. Remember - "Check the date before you donate" when donating food to our pantry.
Volunteers are needed to staff the Outreach Office and become members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. This in-volves working in the Outreach Office at least two hours a week and attending two SVDP meeting per month. We also are starting to plan our Holiday Food Basket and Giving Tree Programs. If you want to volunteer for either of these opportunities please leave a message on the Outreach phone at 408-378-8086 with your name and a phone number so we can contact you.

Hoy, las Iglesias a traves de todo el país honran a aquellos que comparten en la misión de evangelización y enseñanza de la Igle-sia teniendo un especial rito de comisionamiento y bendición. Aquí en la Iglesia de Santa Lucía los catequistas y los maestros son comisionados para compartir la fe de la Iglesia con los adul-tos, las familias, los jóvenes y los niños de la parroquia y de la escuela.
Este año el Domingo Catequético se centra en el tema “Hemos de salvaguardar la dignidad de toda persona”. El Domingo Cate-quético es una maravillosa oportunidad para reflexionar sobre el papel que tiene cada persona, en virtud del Bautismo, en trans-mitir la fe y dar testimonio del Evangelio. El Domingo Catequético es una oportunidad para que todos se re-dediquen a esta misión como comunidad de fe.
