Prayer for Hope
I pray today for Hope
That I will never give up.
I pray today for Strength Even though I may be in despair.
I pray today for Peace
To accept the things I cannot change.
Amen.
From Fr. Davy’s Desk: During my pilgrimage to Europe I really got spiritually uplifted. Our group consists 12 religious priests and 34 nuns. We started our bus pilgrimage from Cologne, Germany on Monday, Septem-ber 2nd. I would like to share our experience in Lourdes, France and Fatima, Portugal. I was really amazed seeing thousands of people visiting Lourdes every day from all over the world. Lourdes is a town located on the south west of France. This unknown town at the feet of the Pyrenean Mountains was to undergo an exceptional transformation starting in 1858. A 14 year old local girl called, Bernadette, told her confessor that Virgin Mary appeared to her in a Grotto on the banks of the Pau River. Today Lourdes is a world renowned Catholic pilgrimage site. Each year more than 5 million pilgrims and visitors from all over the world come here to pray, to seek healing in the holy spring water, or simply to visit the sacred places. Lourdes is a vibrant, lively place where you can hear multi-languages and food. It is like the very cheerful spirit of Saint Bernadette passed on to the whole town that, one can actually feel, is en-gulfed in a spirit of hope and optimism. We celebrated Holy Mass at the Grotto where Mother Mary appeared to Bernadette. We had a healing shower in the Holy Water. We prayed rosary twice with thousands of people at night. When I looked at the rosary procession, I felt like a river flowing with candlelight. In the Eucha-ristic procession, thousands of people participated including over 100 sickly people on wheel-chairs. When I was leaving Lourdes, I thought of the miraculous faith of a poor girl that changed the face of an unknown town and transformed millions of people. We spent couple of days in Fatima, Portugal. In fact we celebrated the birthday of Mother Mary in Fatima. In the spring and summer of 1916, three shepherd children, Lucía, Francisco and Ja-cinta were herding sheep near their home village of Fatima, Portugal. The Angel of Peace appeared to them three times and taught them prayers, to make sacrifices, and to spend time in adoration of the Lord. Beginning the spring of 1917, the apparitions of the Virgin Mary whom the children described as "the Lady more brilliant than the Sun" caused a motor spiritual transformation of the whole world. The children reported a prophecy that prayer would lead to an end to the Great War, and that on 13 October that year the Lady would reveal her identity and perform a miracle "so that all may believe." The blessed Mother asked them to devote themselves to the Holy Trinity and to pray "the Rosary every day, to bring peace to the world and an end to the war". The three children claimed to have seen the Blessed Virgin Mary in a total of six apparitions between 13 May and 13 October 1917.
We celebrated Holy Mass twice in the area Mother Mary appeared. We joined more than 10 thou-sand people two nights praying rosary. When I looked behind me during the rosary, I felt like a lake full of candlelight. Crawling on the knees from the Cathedral to the apparition chapel was a unique experience. We met people from all continents. Devotion and simple faith of three chil-dren continue inspiring thousands of people daily. I prayed for all and as I continued my journey to Avila and Lisieux, I pleaded the intercession of Saints, Therese and Teresa.
