Before Eternal University he has held many respective positions, he served as a Professor of Biotechnology in Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Director Biotechnology Centre,Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and as Director-Cum- Senior Scientist at the Regional Research Station, Punjab Agricultural University. He has published more than 200 research papers in peer reviewed journals and conferences and seminars. He has been very actively associated with various Task Forces of DBT and ICAR for mentoring and monitoring research on crop improvement.

Baba Attar Singh Ji had desired that the place should be established as spiritual centre for the education institutions imparting value based education combined with the modern scientific education on the pattern of old Gurukuls like Takshashila and Nalanda Universities of the past. Therefore, away from all the pollution, noise, drugs and the hustle and bustle of cities, the fully residential Eternal University stands tall in the most peaceful little town of Himachal Pradesh, Baru Sahib, better known as the Valley of Divine Peace.

Established by Himachal Pradesh Government by the enactment of Act No. 3 of 2009, the university has seven constituent colleges offering quality academic programmes in the field of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Economics, Commerce and Management, Health and Allied Sciences including Nursing and Public Health, Agriculture, Biotechnology, Renewable Energy, Divine Music and Education. These programmes have been duly recognized by the UGC, AICTE, INC, NCTE, DSIR, DRDO and DBT and the award of 12(B) status by the UGC is under consideration.

The international universities linked to Eternal University are John Hopkins University; Medical School, University of Maryland, Baltimore; University of California, Riverside and San Diego, USA; and University of British Columbia, Canada and Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

Known for their value and skill based programs and excellent research projects being conducted through various departments, the university is one of the most sought after centres of excellence in northern India. Apart from the value based education the university is an excellent ground for research. Research projects funded by DBT and MOFPI and seminars, symposiums and conferences are a regular part of the institution’s research and development activities. Currently research is being conducted on Baking and Extrusion Products, Fruit and Vegetable Processing in the College of Agriculture. Several departments of the university are engrossed in innovative projects with in-houseand external funding for further strengthening of research and development. Also, the University has submitted research proposals for external funding from the ICAR.

Besides research the university places major emphasis in training the students for industry and entrepreneurship. While talking to us about the routine followed by the university in making the students industry ready, the Vice Chancellor points

out, “We are offering Choice Based Credit System with major emphasis on practical courses, Add-On Diploma Courses, Six months Industrial training, Skill Development Courses and Certificates to all our graduates to prepare them for work from day one.” The project works and training programmes make our students adept at handling the real life problems and be Industry ready. Taking this point into consideration, the Eternal University adopted a cluster of five villages in a radius of about 10 km around the university. The faculty, research scholars and the students from different colleges of the university will be visiting the various household of those villages at least once a month to interact with the farmers and various other stake holders of those villages with an attempt to achieve the goal for prosperity of these villages.
