bike routes are shown on the map in green. Look for posted signs with the MOS logo to help guide you to artists’ locations. Use this guide and map to find artists whose work you saw at the MOS Gallery at 325 Town Center, Corte Madera. Can’t remember whose painting you loved? Visit the MOS online Gallery at marinopenstudios.org

Artists open their doors to show the public their art. The artwork is for sale, but there is much more in the offering: ideas, inspiration, the conversation of creativity, and a glimpse into lives devoted to art. By interacting with artists and purchasing from the stu-dios, something is revealed for every imagination and taste, from the avid collector to the first-time buyer.

These artists open their studios either one weekend or two weekends

in May. Follow this color coding:

ABOUT US

SAUSALITO SEAHORSE

MARIN OPEN STUDIOS (MOS) was created in 1993 by painter Kay Carlson and sculptor Tim Rose. Their goal was to create an event that would allow artists and the art culture in Marin Coun-

ty to flourish. Philanthropist Peggy Haas supported the effort, as she does today, and Town Center in Corte Madera offered exhibition space. Along with volunteers in 1994, they produced the first MOS. In 1996 Carlson and Rose turned MOS over to the Marin Art Council (MAC). Under Ex-ecutive Director Jeanne Bogardus’ leadership MAC produced MOS successfully for fifteen years.

In 2011 MAC experienced financial problems and was dissolved. A MOS revitalization commit-tee formed from town hall meetings comprised of Kay Carlson, Peggy Haas, Bob Amos, Dorallen Davis, Dianne Hansen, Bruce Burtch, Linda Larsen, and Alan Plisskin.

In 2012 MOS continued under new leader-ship. Stan Hoffman at Corte Madera Town Center hosted the exhibition with 260 participating artists. The MOS Gala was a roaring success with over eight hundred art lovers enjoying wine, music, and food generously donated by Marin restaurants.

MOS 2013 -2014 continued successfully, formed new partnerships, and worked on maintaining a year round presence for the visual arts.

In July of 2013 MOS became a Mutual Benefit Corporation in the State of California. In 2014 MOS acquired tax exempt status as a 501(c)3 non- profit corporation under the Board leadership of Bob Amos, Dianne Hansen, and Stuart Gourlay, working with Executive Director Kay Carlson and Administrator/Webmaster Jennifer Freese.

Bon Air Center and President Andrea Schultz hosted the Gallery Exhi-bition/ Gala in 2014 through 2016, also generously offered space for the 2015-18 MOS Pop Up window exhibits for MOS artists.

In 2017-18, Town Center, under the General Managership of Monty Stephens, hosts MOS in Corte Madera Town Center.

All proceeds of our 5th Annual Silent Auction go to support MOS’work to benefit the arts and Marin community, including financial support for art activities at the Drawbridge Youth Program and the Cedars of Marin program for adults with developmental disabilities.

MOS is expanding a pilot scholarship program to encourage emerging artists and ensure inclusion and diversity in the County’s art community.

The 2018 MOS Board has new directors, Danielle Graves, John Kraft, and Shiva Pakdel, with Nancy Rehkopf as Chairman.

MOS operates with a small staff and relies heavily on hard working volunteers. We are a year-round resource supporting the Marin art com-munity through cultural and educational programming. MOS celebrates our local artists and art culture. Please help us keep MOS alive and thriv-ing for Marin County!

Donors whose gifts are received after publication will be recognized in the 2019 Guide.

Marin Magazine is a longtime key partner to MOS’ success. Nikki Wood, Publisher of Marin Magazine, and her team, insert the MOS Guide into their beautiful publication sent to 38,000 residents.

Bon Air Center pop-up exhibitions 2015-2018 offers MOS the use of windows year around, showcasing artists and promoting public aware-ness. Bon Air Center and President Andrea Schultz hosted the MOS Gallery in 2014-16.
