Swimming Galas at AldroSwimming Galas at AldroSwimming Galas at Aldro

We have had three Swimming Galas this term and the boys all swam well for their squads. The Senior Gala saw some outstanding swims from Oliver Perry, Charlie Yeldham, Henry Titchener-Hooker and Jack Osborn in the U13 age group. In the U12 age group the outstanding swimmer was Harry Pascoe who won all three of his individual events. Benedict Crowe showed a fine technique to win the butterfly. In the Middle School Gala we saw our first school record with Sidney Huet winning the U11 butterfly in a time of 12.02. There were also excellent swims by the most promising Ollie Weaver and Bertie Harris who both won two events. In the U10 age group we had a variety of winners with Freddie Seabrooke winning the backstroke and breast stroke, Teddy Silcox winning the individual medley, Seb Kus winning the freestyle and Charlie Raeside winning the butterfly. The Junior Gala saw all the boys take part and enjoy some excellent races. Participating is the most important thing at this age and the boys were all keen to try out a variety of strokes. We had one school record broken twice in the space of five minutes. First Tom Watts set a record time of 13.4 in the U8 freestyle and then a couple of heats later his brother Harry set a new record time of 12.95.There were also outstanding swims from the talented Gabriel Cardy-Brown, Ted Harris, Jude Thompson, Jesse Thompson and Alex Weaver. Well done to all the boys who swam and many thanks to all the staff who worked hard to make all three galas a great success. D.J.A.

The Form 4 boys have been having fun in Science doing lots of work on Living Things and understanding how

different organisms grow and live. They particularly impressed me with their designs for an effective method

for seed dispersal and then produced some excellent presentations about Life Cycles. We had a very produc-

tive time pond-dipping and spotted dozens of different creatures. The boys were amazed with the variety of

species in this habitat as well as the many different habitats located around the school site. PH

Form 4 Maths ChallengeForm 4 Maths ChallengeForm 4 Maths Challenge

On Friday afternoon, four Form 4 boys were invited to take part in a Maths Challenge afternoon at St.

George’s School in Weybridge. There were 120 other children taking part in a variety of puzzles and activities

designed to stretch and challenge not only their thinking skills but also their speed of working. George, Max,

James and Jonty all worked hard throughout the afternoon and were rewarded with some pleasing scores at

the end. After a long, hot afternoon of Maths what could be better than a bubblegum ice-cream before

sitting in a traffic jam for an hour!

Festival of CricketFestival of CricketFestival of Cricket

A fantastic Cricket festival took place on Saturday morning, with every boy being involved in the matches.

Thankfully the weather held, and although not the warmest, it stayed dry long enough for the matches to

be completed. A terrific standard of cricket, enjoyed by all.

Boarders NewsBoarders News With Half Term already upon us, it is almost unbelievable how fast the last few weeks have flown by. The boarding House has been full of very happy boys who have taken advantage of the sunshine to be outside in the evenings playing football, practising their bowling and strengthening their rowing in preparation for the regatta after half term. Each evening there is the sound of pages turning as boys study for their exams and the excited chatter of holiday plans, chess match-ups (chocolate to the boys who can beat Mr Rose) and laughter as they watch Pepper the Hamster rolling around in her ball. This past Sunday saw the boys head to Twickenham Stadium for the Marriott London Sevens tournament. For our rugby loving boys this was the highlight of the year’s activities. From the tense bowl final of Australia vs. Wales to the exciting match of South Africa and New Zealand - the boys were enthralled. The allure of pizza and ice cream filled in the time between matches and it became almost a challenge to see who could take the most selfies with the players!

An invitation to take part in The Aldro and St Hilary’s

Celebration of Art

As in years gone by, this competition is open to all pupils from Aldro and St Hilary’s.

The theme of the competition: “CELEBRATION OF ART” is very broad and may be interpreted in any way the artist chooses. Work may be from school art lessons or done independently. Work may be 2D or 3D. It may be painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, sculpture, in fact anything goes! The work MUST be done by the entrant with no adult intervention, to make it fair for all participants. Chil-dren are discouraged from entering work produced in kit form, such as paint by numbers. Such work looks impressive but is not the child’s independent art work and as such will not be considered for an award. (Art will be judged by Kim Hale, the Education Officer from The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, so work around a wildlife theme may be particularly well received, but all work which celebrates children’s art will be most welcome.) Work must be submitted to your school’s art teacher by Wednesday 15 June. This is very important. Work

submitted after this date may be exhibited but it will miss the deadline for judging.

Budding Artists (preschool and reception)

The prize giving will take place at 6.30 pm on Wednesday 22 June at Aldro, and all entrants, along with friends and family, are welcome to attend the exhibition, where light refreshments will be served and exhibitors will have the opportunity to show off their work. The exhibition will continue until 3pm on Saturday. Prize-winners will be informed on Monday 20 June, although they will have to wait until the prize

giving to discover what they have won. In previous years the art has proved to be of an exceptional standard and the exhibition has been a very festive occasion. I warmly encourage as many pupils as possible from both schools to have a go and become involved in this celebration of children’s art. Please contact Mrs Fenwick if you require any other information
