Healthy Snack reminder

We are noticing the unhealthier snack choices at break time are beginning to appear again and would ask that, if

your child wants to bring in a snack from home to eat at this time, please would you ensure that it is both nu-

tritious and healthy.

Crisps, cakes and chocolate bars can be provided for lunchboxes in moderation; however, would you please re-

mind your child that these are to be eaten at lunchtime and not in the playground.

Alternatively, they can buy healthy snacks from the Healthy Tuck Shop which runs on a Tuesday and Friday in the

KS2 playground and on a Wednesday and Thursday in the KS1 playground. The tuck shop provides water and

snacks that are considered to be part of your ‘5 a day’ fruits and vegetables, such as smoothies, raisins, yoghurt

raisins, fruit in jelly and, during the winter months, vegetable or fruit based soup.

Our KS1 children continue to be provided with a piece of fruit or vegetable daily and we would recommend that

you ask them what they had each day so that you are able to monitor their intake.

We very much appreciate your co-operation to ensure that Longleaze remains a Healthy School.

Kind regards Mrs Ceri Seal

Thank you

For getting your disco and

nativity tickets on time!

Parking around school

We have been contacted again by local residents making us aware that there are still problems with traffic on the approaches to the school at

the start and end of the day. This problem will only be solved if we all work together. Please ensure that you do not drive onto school premises at the end of the day and also do not obstruct other road users and residents, including parking across drive-ways. Thank you.

Spellings

We are having a real push on the children being able to spell the days of the week and the months of

the year correctly. Please support your child in learning these. If they are already confident at spelling

these words, the seasons are next on the list to learn. Here the words for you to check with your child.

Thank you.

Days:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

Months:

January February March April May June July August

September October November December

Seasons:

Spring Summer Autumn Winter

Well done to the children who took part

in Mr Elliott’s Autumn Concert last

Friday. These are children who are

taught by Mr Elliott — what a lovely

evening with fantastic singing and piano

performances and a guest appearance from Darth Vadar -

(otherwise known as Mr Hopkins, our Chair of Governors!)

Well done to:

Tom Dubarry

Samuel Hatton

Olivia Rogers

Isaac Peaker Stevens

Sam Levitt

Frank Hatton

And also to our ex pupils, Abigail Harris, Edward Smith, Thea

Hopkins, Max Hopkins and Eloise Lovesey.

If your child is interested in music lessons in school, please

speak to the school office for further information. We

currently offer Piano, Violin and Guitar lessons, but may be

able to offer other instruments if there is enough interest.

We will be having a special performance on

Monday morning for all of our children which ties

in with the WW1 100th year anniversary commem-

orations that we have been looking at this term.

The performance will tell true stories of WW1

animal heroes and teaches our children that they

can be a hero everyday.

This performance comes highly recommended and

we hope the children will find this fun and

informative.

(There is no charge for the children to attend.)

Thank you to Ethan Price in Year 5 who wrote this piece about the

school trip back in September— we’re sorry that we have not yet

published it!

Imperial War Museum

On Tuesday 23rd September Year 4 and half of Year 5 went to the

Imperial War Museum in London. The coach left school at 8.00am

and got to the museum at 11.56am. The children went to have their

food inside the museum. Then we entered the main hall and we saw

two huge WW2 aeroplanes hanging from the ceiling. We also saw a

massive, long V2 (a rocket) and a big WW2 tank—that was just the

beginning!

Then we went into WW1 an we saw a map of Europe in 1914 and

there is showed us many facts about alliances. Then we saw power-

ful, cool guns that all the children loved and there was also lots of

other stuff like dressing up and seeing their uniform and much,

much more!

Everyone looked like they enjoyed their experience. We got back to

school at about 6pm.

What a fantastic day!

Emergency Closure

With the weather turning colder, we think it would be helpful to keep you informed of how Longleaze Primary School responds to these conditions and what you can do to support us in this.

First, on very cold mornings such as these, we begin work by opening the school early, checking the heating and gritting/salting the main paths and steps. We encourage children, parents and visitors to keep to the treated pathways and avoid any areas in the school that are untreated.

We aim to keep the school open in all but the most severe weather conditions. There are times however when it becomes impossible to maintain a safe provision for children. In these circumstances the following considerations are taken into account:

Can children and staff get safely to school?

Is the school site safe for children and staff?

What is the advice of the Police and the Local Authority?

If it is necessary to close the school due to adverse weather conditions notice will be given on local radio; BBC Wiltshire and Heart FM. We use the Teachers2Parents text messaging, the website and Facebook to inform parents. Please avoid telephoning the school which is likely to be very busy on these occasions. Please, also, do not rely on “word of mouth”! If we are not listed as closed on the radio and you have received no text message or email from us, we will be open!

Finally, on some rare occasions, it may be necessary to send children home early. This is to allow us to ensure that children and staff who have to travel some distance, can get home safely. We would ask that all families have arrangements for such emergency closures.

Next week’s school lunch menu (week 2)

The small print… All meals ordered must be accompanied by the correct payment. The school
