Stitches and Abbreviations used: Single Crochet (sc): Starting with a loop on your hook, insert hook in stitch or space indicated and draw up a loop (two loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook.

Half Double Crochet (hdc): Starting with a loop on your hook, yarn over, insert hook in stitch or space indicated, yarn over and draw up a loop (three loops on hook), pull through all loops. Double Crochet (dc): Starting with a loop on your hook, yarn over, insert hook in stitch or space indicated, yarn over and draw up a loop (three loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through two loops (two loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook.

Front Post Single Crochet (fpsc): Starting with a loop on your hook, insert hook from front to back to front around post of indicated stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.

Slip Stitch (sl st): Starting with a loop on your hook, insert hook in stitch or space indicated and pull up a loop, pull through loop on hook as well.

Back Post Single Crochet (bpsc): Starting with a loop on your hook, insert hook from back to front to back around post of indicated stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.

Back Post Half Double Crochet (bphdc): Starting with a loop on your hook, yarn over, insert hook from back to front to back around post of indicated stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through 3 loops.

Treble Crochet (tr): Starting with a loop on your hook, yarn over twice, insert hook in stitch or space indicated, yarn over and draw up a loop (4 loops on hook), [yarn over and pull through 2 loops] twice, yarn over and pull through 3 loops.

Back Post Treble Crochet (bptr): Starting with a loop on your hook, yarn over twice, insert hook from back to front to back around post of indicated stitch, yarn over and draw up a look, [yarn over and pull through 2 loops] twice, yarn over and pull through 3 loops.

Picot Group (picots): starting with a single crochet in indicated sp, ch 5, slip stitch into both front loops of the sc, ch 7, slip stitch back into the same front loops, ch 5, slip stitch back again into same front loops).Join with Sl St (jss): Join with slip stitch.

Pattern Information: Crochet Terms: American Skill Level: Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate, knowledge of post stitches is recommended

Notes: * Weave in ends as you go * You do not have to follow the colours for each

round, you can do a different one on each, or the same etc, have fun playing with colour.

* This can be made bigger, just use the corresponding hook and yarn and after you’ve completed the Starflake, then buy your ring to make sure you have the correct size.

* See next page for colours and rows * You can use chain stitches in replacement of

Pattern: Round 1: Using Col A; In magic ring, (or ch 4, sl st to 1st ch made) ch 3, 11 dc in ring, jss to top of ch 3. Cut yarn. (12dc)

Round 2: Using Col B; In any st, make a standing bptr, ch 2, *bptr around next st, ch 2*, repeat from * around, jss to 1st bptr. Cut yarn.(12 bptr, 12 x ch-2 sps)

Round 3: Using Col A; In any ch-2 sp make a standing sc, ch 3, *sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 3*, repeat from * around, jss to 1st sc made. Cut yarn.(12 sc, 12 x ch-3 sps)

Round 4: Using Col C; In any ch-3 sp, make a standing dc, 3 dc in same sp, 4 dc in each ch-3 sp around, jss to 1st dc made. Cut yarn. (48 dc)

Round 5: Using Col A; Around the 1st dc of any 4-dc group made in round 4, make a standing bpsc, bpsc around next 3 sts, fpsc around next 4 sts, *bpsc around next 4 sts, fpsc around next 4 sts*, repeat from * around, jss to 1st bpsc made. Cut yarn. (24 bpsc, 24 fpsc)

Round 10: Using Col A; Attach any ch-1 sp to ring using a standing sc over the ring, 20 sc around ring, *sc in ch-1 sp and around ring, 20 sc around ring*, repeat from * around, jss to 1st sc. Cut yarn. (252 sc)

Round 10: Using Col A: Thread a long enough amount of yarn onto yarn needle, insert needle through ch-1 sp of any ‘point’ made in the last round, holding the crocheted part inside the hoop, thread needle under hoop, bringing it back over the top, weave your yarn needle under and over until next ch-1 sp, repeat around (make sure you have it evenly spaced and the same number of loops on the ring in between joining the ch-1 sps) and fasten off, weave in yarn.
