    seen to be God in Is. 63:16, the Son in Is. 9:6, and the Spirit in Gen. 1:1-2 (cf. Ex. 31:3;

    Judg. 15:14; Is. 11:2).

The Father possesses the divine attributes (cf. Ps. 90:2; Jer. 17:10, 23:24). The Sonhas the attributes of deity (cf. Is. 9:6-7; Dan. 7:13-14). The Holy Spirit possesses the

divine attributes (Gen. 1:2; Neh. 9:20; Ps. 139:7).

The Father is presented in the Old Testament as the Creator (Ps. 102:25), and the

other members of the Godhead are as well. Gen. 2:7 uses the plural to identify more

than one person to the being of God. If we understand Jesus, the Logos, as the

Wisdom of God by which He made the world, then the Son is intimated in the Old

Testament as Creator too. The Spirit of God is the creative force brooding over the

waters in Gen. 1:2 (cf. Job. 26:13).

FAITHFULNESS Fatihfulness describes the dependability, loyalty, and stability of

God,particularly in relation to His people. God's faithfulness in keeping

His word is a consistent theme in the Bible. Faithfulness is also

something that God's people are to demonstrate in their relationship

    with Him.

Faithfulness part of God's character (Is. 49:7); great

(Lam. 3:23); established (Ps. 89:2); incomparable (Ps.

LOVE Love is both an attribute of God and an essential part of His nature.

Lovingkindness is another term used throughout the Old Testament to

refer to the loyal esteem and favour God has toward His covenant

people. In the New Testament the two main terms used for love refer tothe positive regard God has for His Son and His people, and to the

affection of brothers and friends toward each other.

God's love described as and seen in being: sovereign

(Deut. 7:8, 10:15); assuring (Zeph. 3:17); unfailing (Is.

49:15-16); everlasting (Jer. 31:3); irrespective of merit

(Deut. 7:7; Job 7:17); by election (Mal. 1:2-3); byredemption (Is. 43:3-4, 63:9); by forgiving sin (Is.

JUSTICE When the Bible refers to the justice of God it means that God is

honorable in His treatment of people. All of His decisions are righteous

and true. God requires that His people also deal justly in all the

situations of life (Mic. 6:8). God's actions in the Bible give us the pattern

by which we can make right decisions.

Justice a part of God's character (Deut. 32:4; Is.

45:21); concerning His justice God is plenteous (Job

JUDGMENT God is the Judge of all the universe. He judges according to His

standard of Law as revealed in the Bible. Judgment can refer either to

the process of determining guilt or innocence or to the punishment

given out to those who fall under God's wrath.

    Judgment comes from God (Deut. 32:39; Job 12:23;

Amos 3:6; Mic. 6:9); God judges by: blotting out one's

    name (Deut. 29:20); abandonment (Hos. 4:17);

MERCY Mercy is seen in God's compassion toward the suffering and in His

willingness to restore those whose own sins have separated them from

Him. God sovereignly determines to extend mercy by withholding

punishment from sinners and restoring them to fellowship with Himself.

God also exhibits His mercy through acts of His providence, such as

healing and rescue from danger. God expects us to show mercy to

    others as well.

God's mercy described as great (Is. 54:7); sure (Is.

55:3); tender (Ps. 25:6); new every morning (Lam.

TRUTH The biblical concept regarding truth is not conformity to an external

standard but faithfulness and reliability. Concerning God, of course,

faithfulness or reliability is not measured by any external standard; the

    standard is God Himself.

God is a God of truth (Deut. 32:4; Ps. 31:5); His Word

is truth (Ps. 119:160; Dan. 10:21); He regards truthful

people with favour (Jer. 5:3); the judgments of God

HOLINESS God is holy, separate from His creation by His very nature. To be holy

literally means to be cut off or separate, and denotes apartness, the

separation of a person or thing from the common or profane to a divine

    use.

The character of God is the standard (Lev. 19:2); is

    incomparable (Ex. 15:11; 1 Sam. 2:2); commanded

(Lev. 11:45, 19:2, 20:7); necessary to worship of God

(Ps. 24:3-4); we are to avoid everything inconsistent

    4:7).

MISSIONS God uses His people to proclaim His Word to those outside His

covenant. By this proclamation those He has elected unto salvation

come to faith in Him. Israel was to proclaim His goodness and today the

church is commanded to go into all the world and proclaim the good

    news of salvation in Christ.

The king of Assyria allowed a Jewish priest to teach

the way of God (2 Kin. 17:27-28); Israel was

commanded to proclaim the day of His salvation to all

the earth (1 Chr. 16:23-24); the prophet Jonah was

commanded to proclaim God's message to Nineveh

    (Jon. 3:1-2).
