As we enter into the next phase, a reminder, what is a Plenary Council?

A Plenary Council is the highest form of gathering that a church in a particular country can have. It is a process by which lay people and clergy can be heard. The last major assembly for the Catholic Church of Australia took place more than eighty years ago in 1937. Our next

will be in 2020. This is our chance to make a difference.

Turning Waste Into Opportunity

As you may be aware, we have just started collecting milk bottle tops for Envision Hands. There have been some questions about what sort of tops. They are all flat soft drink, water and milk bottle tops, including those from long life containers. The tops should be numbered either No 2 or No 4 in the recy-cled triangle but not all are marked. Any tops with other numbers like 5 or 7 are not re-quired. We also ask that the caps are cleaned before they are donated. We also can’t take tops larger than milk bottle tops, so if you have a vegemite lid, please use your recycling bin.

CLIMATE CHANGE: What can we do?

Climate Change is now a most significant topic of conversation across our dinner tables and across the various organisations across the world. From the UN Climate Summit, where the leaders of the world were ticked off by a young Swedish student crying ‘How dare you” when highlighting he inaction of various governments of the world, both first world and developing world. ‘How dare you’ she had said to them all.

In our own Land, Sir David Attenborough has chided our Government and perhaps all of us for our excessive use of coal and fossil fuels, thus damaging our precious environment, particularly the impact on the Barrier Reef. Climate Change seems to be a stark reality in this fragile world in which we live, in spite of the nay-sayers who speak against it.

Our world is being damaged by all that is hap-pening today. Even Pope Francis has spoken of our responsibility to care for our world, because we are trustees of this world for future genera-tions. Time and again we are told that Australia is responsible for just .01% of the world’s carbon footprint, while other nations are so much high-er.

That may be true, but do we not have a respon-sibility for that 0.01% and a responsibility to do something to ease the pain of the world around us. Somehow we are meant to make a differ-ence in our lives TODAY! The time has come to change our ways and perhaps save our planet. ‘How dare you” may be the cry of the genera-tions who will follow us if we do not change our ways today.

The time has come. Let’s choose life for our
