SAN JOSE MANGGAGAWAThe good husband of Mary, the mother of Christ on earth, as patron of the Mother Church is no accident, this tribute to his being obedient to the will of the Father in Heaven. There is no clear history how Joseph born, or which was actually from San Jose.

Page 6: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

Known only as long as we do, he was from the house of David, the source of the Messiah or the anointed Savior. In a homily when Pope John Paul II said that San Jose is considered as exemplary father and a diligent and efficient steward of the household of God, who represented the Holy Family of Nazareth.

VISION AND MISSION

Page 8: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

REFLECTION

When we went to Chorillo, we saw the church and it was huge. It could accommodate many parishioners with its size.

In its exterior part, we saw the doors being furnished by the volunteer workers. The doors and gates of the church were being taken care of by the council of parishioners. There were two black gates on the edges of the church and the large door in the middle. Then, we saw the actual patron beside the church outside

Page 19: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

A BEAUTIFUL PARISH…

San Jose Manggagawa has a saw that represents a carpenter and a stick.

Beside it were the small bell and a well with no water inside it.

Actually, the church in the interior is so clean. It was organized; there is a table for the holy water and the bell used for mass, the projector screen for the flashing of songs, the saints inside, the crucifix and the choir’s place at the back. In the office, there are teen volunteers who helped the council of parishioners on accommodating concerns like we did.

Page 20: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

…FOR EVERYONE!

Lastly, the posters and bulletin boards helped us to know the schedule and appointments, it was really helpful.

If there is one thing needed by our parish, it would be cleanliness after the mass and even without mass. The workers would not work if there are no trash, but there are. So that is the main problem of our parish despite its perfectness.

PATRICK GERONIMO

Well, of my young age, I never wonder I would be involved in our parish. My parents are not active as my grandmother and grandfather did. But, nevertheless, I heard much of our parish when I was young and still now. I don’t actually know what are happening in the parish. But now, as the CLE department introduce the project, I became interested because finally, I will experience what my grandmother experienced. My current relationship right now in my parish was not yet developed because as I said, it is my first time. I hope that through this project, my relationship with the parish would be strong and foundation well.

STEPHEN YOUNG

Honestly, I have had no relationship at all with this parish….until now. The parish was simply a church near my home and that was just about it. No further knowledge. My family went to another parish so I never really bothered to ask about San Jose Manggagawa Parish. After seeing and being in the parish, I could say that I look forward to knowing more about it and the people around. It is closer to my home and at a walking distance! I’d be happy if my family would start going to this parish.

INTERVIEW!

Page 29: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

INTERVIEW!Us: Why did you join this Organization?Mr.Lorejo: “Basically, when I arrived here in

Chorillo Marikina, I gained many friends. As soon as we became friends, they often hide something from me. And one day, I sneak and followed them. In my amazement, I found them singing in the San Jose Manggagawa Church. All I know was they were part of the Choir. I am moved in a sense that my friends are actually committed at singing church songs. All at once, I became interested and finally, Sister Judy accepted me as a member and I was very happy that I will serve the Lord by singing. To serve the Lord and to follow what my friends have started is the reason why I joined.”

Page 30: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

INTERVIEW!

Us: How does this organization help you to become better Christian?

Mr. Lorejo: “Well, I became a better Christian by

becoming more committed on what I have been started. I became more bound and stick to what I am doing since moving here. Also, it builds my confidence to sing songs in front of a large crowd. I never used to say or sing something in a large crowd. This is my first time to sing in a very low voice to make blend to the group. It also helps me to bring myself closer to God.”

Page 31: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

INTERVIEW!

Us: How is this particular need addressed by the parish?  Mr. Lorejo: “This problem that there are many trashes

like candy wrappers from children, folded papers and wet tissue papers were being collected and made to a better thing. Like folded papers becoming an “origami” by volunteers. And the wet tissue paper will be thrown away to a respective trash can. This movement we call,” Linisin Mo, Kapaligiran Mo” and “Recycle if we must” Through these movements hopefully we addressed the problem properly and accurately.”

Page 32: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

BEATITUDE CHARACTER

As we saw our interviewee, this beatitude is definitely fitting for him and that is, “Blessed are those peacemakers for they will be the children of God.” First, by performing and singing in front of many people especially during masses, it becomes a sign of being a peacemaker in a sense that they are the instrument for the mass to go smoothly without interruption. With the choir, one can find peace by singing and one will definitely feel at home when listening to the blending of high and low pitch of voices. Thus, serving in a parish is a challenging task since it will need commitment and strength to overcome every task given by the elders. They are called children of God since they are working for the greater glory of the Lord.

MUSIC FOR THE SOUL

After observing the parish Music Ministry and Choir, we decided to join them!

Page 34: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

ONE DAY…

As we enter the door of the parish, we saw friendly members of the Choir group. They are resting for fifteen minutes before they go back again to practice singing church songs for the upcoming Sunday mass. We saw around 12 members and 2 sisters guiding them. Due to the need of this project, we asked a member and that’s Kuya Amulek to be interviewed. He then agreed and started to become proud because finally someone will interview him. We asked questions that are related to his experiences. It was really like a normal conversation with no interview happening in mind. He told us many things and experiences of his so that we may idolize him. And little did we know that it was already 2:30pm when we ended the interview, the time the choir member to practice one more. They were singing the “Anima Christi” and we also went to sing since we have more time. We listened many times to the song they were performing and it was very pleasant to our ears. Different pitches of voices make the blending more fashionable. And 3pm, we bade goodbye to them and told that were seeing each other again someday. They also went to their homes to have rest while others were still bonding time for them. It was truly an inspiring experience of ours to be treasured forever.

Page 35: 2N Geronimo,Young-CLE Parish Alive

PATRICK GERONIMO

As we went to our parish church, we felt nervous since we will encounter many new people to meet. We actually did not know them since we are also new in that place. But since we are proud that we are Christians too, we confidently enter the parish office to interview someone. And the people in the said office were very kind to us. They even offered us the comfortable seats. And when our interviewee appeared after their practice, we immediately greeted him Hi and told that we are from Ateneo de Manila Highschool and we would like to have a little interview about some experiences and other matters related to it. We actually told them the reason why we were there. So that we can be a better Christian and to have an idol of faith in our life. As the session went smoothly, I remembered to give him a token, a card full of thanks and praise for his time and approval of being interviewed. The interview challenges us to become better parishioners not only for the sake of grades but for the sake of our deep faith to Lord. Same with the interviewee that he challenges us to become a better citizen of Philippines specifically in Marikina and in church. Truly, we will become inspired In our life that we can live for the best of us and for the best of the Almighty God. AMDG.

STEPHEN YOUNG

Like in the previous term’s reflection, the parish was still seemingly new and foreign to me(Most likely since I don’t live near that area where the parish is). Even though, I still tried my best to familiarize myself with the surroundings, soaking up the atmosphere telling myself that I should get used to it already. The parish has an office where we found our bright and cheery interviewee, Mr. Lojero. The interview with him. The interview went smoothly, and his answers were true for a man with a lot of faith. He taught us to be more committed because it will help bring us closer to God. This is true, because without commitment, reaching God would be near impossible. The choir observation was honestly my favorite part since I am a fan of music. They sang beautifully especially since they were singing “Anima Christi”, one of my favorite mass songs. They were singing with so much passion and energy, driven by their faith and will to sing for the Lord. I was inspired to be like them, to actually sing like that during school-wide masses had become a new goal for me! But as it was getting late, we bid them goodbye. At the end of the day I had become determined to try my best and not hinder them in choir performances. This would be my first step in being more involved with the parish.
