    Highlights of the 2ndASG Opening Ceremony

    ASG2 Contingents Common Aspiration

    iming to succeed in thegames is the common aspira-

    tion shared by all the 2nd ASEANSchools Games 2010 contingents.Teams were seen training diligentlyfor the events so as to excel.

    Winning and losing are partand parcel of any competition.However, it is the spirit of sports-manship that the games aim touphold.

    s early as 7.30 am, the MalaysianWomen Artistic Gymnastics

    (W.A.G.) team was seen busy practis-

    ing for the upcoming events at theNational Sports Council venue. Theathletes were fully commied through-out the training session. They practisedintensively in order to perform well inthe games. Their coach, Mr Mikhil, hadtrained the girls to be fit and ready forthe games and reinforced their skillsand techniques such as smooth landingand perfect swings. In brief, this train-ing session was indeed a good platformfor the girls to test their performance.Good luck to all the gymnasts of theMalaysian contingent!!

    PRACTICEMAKES PERFECT

    the champion forthe Men ArtisticG y m n a s t i c s(M.A.G). Theycollected an overallscore of 226.900points. Tailing close behind was theMalaysian contin-gent with 223.200points. Vietnam bagged the bronzemedals with a score of 212.300 points.

    The Thailand athletes displayed aperformance of amazing technical accuracy interms of landing and swings mainly in thefloor exercise and high bar components. TheMalaysian, Vietnam as well as Singapore andIndonesian contingents also performed totheir best with commendable enthusiasm.

    The current progress of this 2ndASEAN Schools Games is very

    good, said Mr.Tunas Dwidharto,the President of TheASEAN SchoolsSports Council. He issatisfied with theeffort Malaysia has

    put into the event asthe host. Also, hefeels that Malaysia

    has shown warm hospitality to allparticipating teams.

    Mr. Tunas Dwidharto addedthat the response from all partici-pants is very good although there isstill room for improvement. He puthigh hopes that in the future, theparticipation will increase becausehe believes that through sports, onecan strengthen the relationshipamong nations within SoutheastAsia.

    Lastly, he expressed the hopethat that this event will be a steppingstone for young athletes to performbeer at higher levels such as in Asiaand in the international arena.

    Malarangeng, the Indonesian Min-ister of Youth and Sports, inspiredthe Indonesian basketball team togive their all into their game andmake their nation proud.

    Although they had faced atough opponent in their firstmatch, the Indonesian team le thestadium with heads held high.They lost their match to Thailandwith a score of 76 - 84.

    The Indonesian ministersaid that he enjoyed the game andfelt that the Indonesian team hasdone their level best. Nevertheless,he also admied that Thai basket-ball team was beer.

    He hoped that the Indone-sian team/contingent will continue

    to compete fervently for theirforthcoming games.

The Philippines playedagainst Malaysia, and Bruneiplayed against Singapore in theadjacent court. Malaysia won thematch convincingly with a score of3-0.     Singapores golf team is ready tocompete in the 2nd ASEANSchools Games. According to the

    team manager, Mr. Marvin Chan, theteam have prepared themselves bytraining on different golf courses andundergoing intensive trainingsessions. Since most of the golfers areseasoned, they have a high-level ofconfidence as they have played atnumerous regional and internationallevel tournaments. Meanwhile, thegolf team from Brunei is very seriousabout geing gold medals as theyhave trained their golfers for almost ayear and a month. They have highhopes for Muhammad Hariz Hashimwho is Bruneis top youth golfer.

    Good strategy and steadiness.That was the Malaysian teams keyto the successful win against Singa-pore at the MABA stadium. TheMalaysian team put together astrong front and led to a 92 64victory.

    Both teams showed theiraggressiveness as well as goodcoordination in the showdown atthe stadium. The tempo of thegame was not quick and the play-ers showed no sign of tirednesseven at the third quarter of thegame. However, the Malaysianteam displayed excellent skills bycollecting 44 percent of therebounds and created the biggestlead of 29 points.

    The Malaysian coach saidthat even though the players werestill recovering from previouschampionships, they played hard

    and well enough.

    that it was a team effort that led themto win the game. Players like SarceNensi Buaim, Ivonne Febrriani S.and Nathasa Deby C. made a differ-ence and boosted the spirit of theteam.

    One of the key players SarceNensi Buaim said, I am thankful toGod , my trainer and team for thesuccess today. She scored 40% of thefield goals during the match.

    On the other hand, the Singa-porean coach commented that theteam needs to train harder and do beer in the next match against thePhilippines.

    Singapore started their first matchagainst Brunei. Lim Kwok Ken scoredthe first goal for Singapore at the 14thminute. Aer three minutes, theydoubled their lead with a powerfulshot by Shahid Manap. Singaporewent three goals up by the 18thminute through a goal by MohamedRifqi. A few minutes before the firsthalf ended, Karleef Sasi Abdullahscored another goal.

    When the second halfresumed, Karleef Sasi Abdullahadded to his tally with another goal.Singapore subsequently scored three

    more goals in the 48th, 50th and 63rdminutes by Lim Kwok Ken, Goh WenCong and Muhammad Syakiranrespectively for a resounding 8-0victory.

    With loud cheers and support fromthe home crowd, Malaysia hasemerged victors over Vietnam in anall girls basketball match at theMABA stadium. Malaysia hasmade its mark at the 2nd ASEANSchool Games!

    The Malaysian playersplayed a swi and agile game inturning the tables during the firstquarter of the game and sealed a

    112 44 victory. They displayed amaz-ing stamina and accuracy in theirgame. Quick to intercept theiropponents passes, they did not missany opportunities given. Despite beingtired and weary, the Vietnamese didnot give up but pushed on to finish thegame. They showed great sportsman-ship and team spirit.
