If a ray rotates in the clockwise
sense, the sign of the angle so
formed is taken by convention,
as negative measurement. If the
rotation is the counter or anti
clock wise sense, the sign of theangle so formed is taken, by
convention, as positive
measurement.
Units of measurement of angles:
For measurement of angles,
there are three unknown
systems. They are
I) Sexagesimal (English)
system ii) Centesimal (French)
system, and iii) the radian orcircular measure.
What is a path joining a set of
points in plane?
What is known as a portion of a
line together with its dividingpoint?
What is a right angle?
What is a called an angle
measuring between 0 and 90?
What is called an angle whosemeasure exceeds 90 but fallsbelow 180 ?
What is called when the rotating
ray stops after making an angle of
rotation , the place where the
rotating ray stops?
What is the angle turned when the
ray has completed on full
revolution about the vertex?
How many types of measurements
of angles are there?
What are they?

Radian measure:
A radian is defined as the angle
subtended by an arc of length
equal to the radius of the circle
at its centre.
A radian is a unit of angle
measurement. And is written asc1 .The radian measure is also
called a circle measure, as it is
related to a circle.
Relation between degrees and
radians:
Since the terminal arm of the
angle completes one revolution,
What is the centre of the
circle?
What is the radius of the
circle?
What is arc?
In the adjacent figure what
is AB?
What is the angle subtendedby an arc at centre?
How to represent a radian?
Define a radian?
What is the circumference
of the circle?
What it the angle measure,
the circumference subtends
at the centre?

Recapitulation: 1.Define radian?
2. What is the relation between degrees, radians and grades?
3. If the terminal side completes one revolution about its vertex, what is the angle made?
Behavioral changes: Students understanding the dominion of radian.
Student understands the relation between the degrees, radians and grades.
Students converting degrees into radians, radians into degrees etc.
.

The word trigonometry is derived from the
Greek roots- tri meaning three gonia meaningan angle and metron meaning measure. Thus
trigonometry means three angle measures. It is
an analytical study of a three angled
geometrical figure-namely the triangle.
Hipparicus a Greek mathematician establishedthe relationships between the sides and angles
of a triangle.
