2nd Workshop on ProBioRefine
December 7-‐8, 2015 UTM Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia Organized by Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT) Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Background and Objective of Workshop
1
As new initiative on bio-‐refinery, the ProBioRefine project was launched in 2014 by DTU (Chemical & Biochemical Engineering) and KAIST (Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering) with funding from various sources. The ProBioRefine project brings together highly qualified researchers from DTU, KAIST and partner institutions to address the vital need to design the optimal processing route (network) for the conversion of specific biomass into a set of desired products (fuels & chemicals) considering the available technologies and future developments. The objective of ProBioRefine was to develop a systematic method and associated tools to analyze and design innovative bio-‐refinery networks based on chemical and biological approaches to convert various kinds of biomass feedstock into valuable chemicals and biofuels. The 2014 workshop had successfully gathered key researchers from DTU, partnering institutions to discuss current state of technology and future direction and strategies on bio-‐refinery. This year, in 2015, the ProBioRefine Consortium will gather again in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and bring together key stakeholders from academia, industries, research institutes and policy makers, in an interactive forum and discussion with key stakeholders and end users. The 2015 workshop organized by UTM Process Systems Engineering Centre
2
(UTM-‐PROSPECT) is aimed to mobilise and engage stakeholders and end-‐users in research and technology implementation collaboration on bio-‐refinery. Towards this end, the workshop will cover key themes of bio-‐refinery research and include a special Industrial forum to discuss the current state, the challenges and opportunities in the bio-‐refining industry.
