So many newbies, so little time. Help me out gals, I know at least one unwritten rule but there must be at least a few more. Rule #1 - ALWAYS copy and paste an OP that you KNOW is going to be controversial so when

the OP deletes their thread, we can still discuss.

#3 - Handslapping, particularly if you are the OP will lead to increased nastiness.

If it's about something disgusting absolutely do NOT post a photo.

If you don't like the answers you are getting on a thread, deletion of your OP makes you look like a whiner who didn't get their own way and then maybe you are. Expect your thread to continue despite your insistence that your thread is closed (which only makes it exponentially worse for yourself)

Modified from an old post (not mine): 1. You cannot suggest that a fellow resident is devoid of the patriotism until page two. 2. You must have a sense of humor. People post jokes here. They're funny. Start laughing. 3. You may not condemn, chastise, upbraid, exort, or call to repentance anyone on your first post. If you do, the jokes people post will be at you expense. They will still be funny. You should still laugh. 4a. One cannot point out that surely we have better things to do and think about than the trivial topic under discussion until page 3 4b. And that person should have at least 100 posts under their belt. 5. Thursday is spelled Thrusday. 6. There must be at least 6 posts recorded on any thread before anyone is allowed to post 'Wow, just Wow' 7.For the love of Peas, use the "search" button before you ask a question or start a new thread. If you do not it is open season on your butt. 8. Before being snarky you must state which definition you are using.

Hey, I am not that prolific here, but have been on enough message boards to add a few rules. 1. If people suggest that your behavior is truly whackadoo, just say your OP was a social experiment to see how people would respond. 2. If people suggest that your behavior is truly whackadoo, start a new thread in which you post cute pictures of small children. 3. If people suggest that your behavior is truly whackadoo, start a new thread in which you explain a previously unexplained personal tragedy/medical diagnosis/family crisis. All of these tactics, unfailingly, will erase any taint of whackadoo left on the screen.

If you can Google, then for the love of all that is sanity, GOOGLE IT YOURSELF! Do not ask the peas to do something you could and should be doing yourself, you run the risk of getting a link like this (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=NSBR+Unwritten+Rules) otherwise.

    # 10 You must use paragraphs. Proper punctuation is a plus. # 11 If you're going to refer to people anonymously don't label them person A, person F, and person W and expect us to follow you. Use made up names and lay out beforehand who's related to whom and how.

The use of the term pea-livid is sacred and must be reserved for very worthy situations. If in doubt, don't use it or you will be spanked for using it in an unworthy way. If you post about a situation that is ongoing, you MUST come back and update as we are all hanging on the edge of our seats waiting for it.

Don't neglect to check the date before you post a response to a thread. Trolls LOVE to bump threads that are months and even years old when they are deliberately attempting to stir up shit with specific people.

1st RULE: You do not talk about NSBR. 2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about NSBR. 3rd RULE: If someone says "stop" or goes limp, taps out the thread is over. 4th RULE: Only two Peas to a fight. 5th RULE: One fight at a time. 6th RULE: No shirts, no shoes. 7th RULE: Fights will go on as long as they have to. 8th RULE: If this is your first night at NSBR, you HAVE to fight.

Rule ??? Holidays- consider yourself warned. There will be multiple posts about controlling mother in laws and ungrateful daughter in laws. Christmas day will result in a number of peas being on NSBR bitching about the crappy gifts they got, the lack of gratitude for the gifts that have been given and lots of complaining about relatives. Birthdays-expect at least monthly threads complaining about dh or SO who can't be bothered to make their bday special. Generally within 10 posts someone else points out that if your DH has hasn't gotten the knack of gift giving in 1-, 15, 20, 25+ years they aren't going to get it. Luckily only every other month is there a bday thread bragging about how much someone's perfect dh spent on their bday. Rule 17 if you admit you drove your kids to school in your pajamas be prepared to be painted with the white trash paint brush. Rule 21 For the love of all that is holy don't post things from the blog on 2Peas. It will be ugly, very, very ugly. Good luck. It's like a family here. We reserve the right to rip each other to shreds but heaven help the outsider who attacks one of our own.

The posting of Hoff pics is required when a controversial thread starts to die down. Said Hoff pic may occur only after page 5 or 6 only. The Hoff pic may NOT be the stripper pole/Hoff tongue pic because said picture can cause nausea and vomiting. YOU may be responsible for keyboard or laptop replacement if chunks get blown.

Do not bother asking about anything that involves giving Donna Downey your money. The answer is NO.

Unless you have my dreadful bad luck and expect that customs will tell your non-drinking/non-smoking/not even remotely doing drugs self that all of your belongings are tainted with cocaine/heroine as you go through customs. If you expect this to happen please do give DD a few dollars just before SHE heads through customs. Rule #89 - if you accidentally break a rule and run down your pea-credit, get an instant top-up by starting a male eye-candy thread. Extra bonus points if your thread includes a famous hot guy who may or may not be entirely nude, thus necessitating an 8 page discussion on whether that is leg or not with multiple screen shots, close ups, and diagrams.

It's a very recent thread. I had unhappy times with NZ customs coming home from Oz a few days ago. I guess that answers my dilemma about whether to apply for NZ citizenship or not (Yes - so much easier to travel into NZ with a NZ passport). -------------------- One more rule: Rule #4. Don't put your deceased pet in the kirby. Don't even do it and not tell the peas about it. Just don't do it!

If you can Google, then for the love of all that is sanity, GOOGLE IT YOURSELF!

You know what, I'm going to challenge this 'rule'. I don't like it. Why should I google something when it is much more fun to ask a question here??? You can get a whole lot of great answers, and it is much more interactive. For example...... sure, I could google 'Chicken Crock Pot recipes', but I want to ask people who have actually made the recipes and can verify that they will work and taste good. Then if I want to ask "Can I use stock instead of red wine" the poster can then give me an immediate answer. So............ my rule is "Don't use Google, come to 2 Peas instead." And while I'm being contrary, I also want to question the validity of this rule:

7.For the love of Peas, use the "search" button before you ask a question or start a new thread. If you do not it is open season on your butt.

How far back do we have to go before we are allowed to re-post a question or thread? One day? One week? One year? When you think about it, almost every single topic has been discussed, some many many times. Most people are not on the board all day every day. Personally I only look at the most recent 2 pages, so I miss a lot of threads. Therefore my rule

  • is "If someone posts a thread that has already been discussed, don't come into the thread being all smart assy about it. Either don't open the thread or maybe nicely post a link to the original thread. Chances are, there will be a lot of people who did not see the first (or second or third etc.) thread."

If you ask for help on a certain topic, please come back and look to see the suggestions we have offered. Unless you are in the emergency room, you might mention that you have seen our replies (and perhaps say thanks) even if you think we are full of bologna. There have been many times I have written out a long answer, never to hear if the OP ever even came back to see what we wrote. When people don't check back the peas won't bother to offer help.

Put a "spoiler" alert in the title when discussing TV shows, books, movies ....

Don't ever forget that the westcoast peas are 3 hours behind those of you on the eastcoast and we really hate it when someone posts the results of any tape delayed shows in the thread topic. This includes things like the olympics which are often shown live on the eastcoast, but delayed to us. When you type "Can't believe Mary Lou Retton won the gymnastics all around!" or something similar, you will be in pea trouble big time. We don't care if you if you post "Spoilers about the olympics Inside" because we know not to open those until later.

    Posted: 4/10/2012 8:57:04 PM

It would be nice if people did a search before asking,"what should we do while staying in _______?" If you think you can get more information than previous threads gave, then go ahead and ask. Thing is, you might not get many people posting on your thread because others have answered in the umpteen previous threads in the past year. Sometimes I roll my eyes at the thread police, though. Someone got on another Pea's case for posting a 2nd thread when the first thread had a really vague title. That's silly.

Oh yeah, another one: if your child has a fever of 105 and perhaps their face is turning blue and they could possibly be having their first asthma attack and you don't know if it's serious--do yourself a favor and go to the ER or another location that offers real medical personnel. Because if you come to 2Peas looking for advice first, I can guarantee you'll be sorry because you'll have a 3-page thread in no time telling you what an idiot you are. Now if you just have an itchy rash, or you have a weird array of symptoms for which you are waiting to be seen at your already scheduled doctor's appointment next week, the Peas are at your service and ready to diagnose you.

I try to remember to follow it. While the peas are excellent and supportive in truly tragic circumstances, they (we?) can be brutal to posters whose problems are somewhat below the level of life and death. Yes, yes, yes!!! I get a headache trying to read a 500 word Paragraph. It's not that hard to hit "Return". And it doesn't take any creativity to say Ann, Bill, Charlie, and Xavier instead of person A, person R, Aunt J, and T. Make up some names, there are a million to choose from. I'll add, don't post your entire post in ALL CAPS unless you are SCREAMING!

Those of us who have been here for a while realize that- this is Peadom afterall- but the poor newbies might think we all have a stick up our butts after reading these rules! They really do make it easier for everyone though. I also want to say that I have learned SO much from the Peas over the years. I love coming here to see what is going on in the world and there are many days when the Peas really brighten my day! Thanks for being there everyone!

Even if you only grocery-shop in the dumpsters behind Wal-Mart and the corner gas station in real life, here at Two Peas you must pass as a devout farm market and organic specialty store shopper. Grass-fed beef only; vegetarians preferred. Possession of a box of Hamburger Helper will result in Pea-condemnation.

Don't ever post a thread without doing a search on the same topic for the past 6 months. And you need to search every possible keyword since there's no way to know what the other thread is titled... Also even if you have 3 kids and we all know you know how to make the beast with 2 backs do not ever write the actual word. It's aLL s@x s!x s-x!

Do not link smilies from other sites, or you might invoke the image of Tubgirl. I learned this the hard way. Don't know what Tubgirl is? DO NOT GOOGLE IT. Seriously. You really don't want to know and there is not enough eye bleach out there to remove the image from your brain.

OMG, Tubgirl. I made that mistake over seven years ago and that image is still seared across my memory, causing vomitous feelings. Blah!

Never question how a teacher treats your precious little Johnny or Susie. Teachers are always right and even if they aren't they don't get paid enough to be right all the

time and your expectations are just way too high.

Ok, so we seem to entering into 'personal pet peeves' territory...which is fine by me - I'll add

mine ................... Read (or skim at least) the other replies before adding yours because if you don't you either add something that's been said 100 times already (fine but a waste of time) or the discussion

has taken off at such a tangent that your comment is just odd

Oh and no photos are needed on the "tending to the lady garden" threads. In fact we prefer no photos, make that insist NO PHOTOS on garden tending threads

But stick figure drawings are ok and appreciated if it is a funny story. You can quote two ways. One, click the quote button down at the bottom of the reply feature and then copy and past or type INSERT TEXT HERE [/quo3te] (without the 3 of course).

Hell, I can't remember what I had for breakfast.

Need to see if I have learned anything today. And while not a rule, just a fact for the newbies - 2Peas is a giant time sucker. You will waste a lot of time looking, reading and responding. You've been warned.
