Protective Services Officers are sworn staff members of the Queensland Police Service (QPS). They have legislative powers to provide security to State Government buildings and can work closely with Police Officers in the detention of persons found committing offences in these buildings. Protective Services Officers have all the powers of a Police Officer excluding the power of arrest within a Government building/precinct. Static Guards – may be required to work a variety of hours/shifts. Mobile Patrols – shifts of 12 hours. Work an average of 27 hours per week rostered over an 8 week cycle covering a 24 hour shift pattern. Central Operations Room – 24/7 Protective Services offers a diverse range of career opportunities and working arrangements throughout Queensland. The training covers protective security environment and includes both theoretical and practical training onthe legislation, police, practices and procedures of Protective Services. The full training program must becompleted.

Operational skills and tactics training and driver training is also included in the training course.

Please note – this training does not provide credit points for university or other qualifications.

Pay rates start from PSO Level - $46,428 per annum and SPSO Level - $50,577 per annum. Allowancesupwards of 33% may be payable for various work environments.

What will I receive training in?

No – however there are mandatory requirements to apply e.g. you must have a current First Aid MedicalCertificate.

You will be paid as a casual employee throughout the training period.

Is there a career pathway from QPS recruiting to Protective Services?

A recruitment pathway currently exists in partnership with QPS Recruiting – QPS recruit applicantsdeemed suitable for Protective Services may be offered a 12 month placement with Protective Services.

All applicants are required to meet all requirements, including successful completion of the relevantcourse.

At the end of the 12 month period, QPS Recruiting may invite applicants back in to the QPS recruitmentprocess, if deemed suitable.
