Voices/Voci: Italians who came to America fleeing Fascism

Gianna Pontercoboli, Italian-born journalist, UN Correspondent and author, Americordo: The Italian Jewish Exiles in America

Forced to leave by rising persecution, one thousand Italian Jews came to America, to continue their work from mathematics to music. Pontercoboli retraces their strategies to find a visa, to weave networks of support and to confront fascism and anti-fascism in the U.S. Four of those who remained in America won the Nobel prize, while others built enduring bridges between America and Italy.
