TRANSCRIPT
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hi folks
Hope you’ve had a great start to Semester 2. Students and staff have come back from holidays full of energy and
enthusiasm, and lots of good things are going on. If you have any good stories about something special that has
happened in relation to your student at school, send me an email or drop in and tell me in person.
Are you getting excited about the Olympics? Go to the splash page in SEQTA or to the school website to see links
to information about our very own Matthew Glaetzer (pictured) competing in track cycling. This is Matt ’s second
Olympics, but this time he is competing in four events and is highly favoured to become the sprint king in the
men’s individual sprint – track cycling’s equivalent of Usain Bolt, in other words. Go Matt.
August is a special month for Year 8 to 11 students at school: it’s Subject
Selection Month. See the article later on in this newsletter: there are a
number of special parent events coming up, and students will be working
hard to make great choices for their elective subjects for 2017.
Science Week and Book Week are coming up in Week 4 and 5 of term.
There will be some great science workshops with Lee Harrison as part of
Science Week, and the theme for Book Week is Australia: Story Country,
Primary students and teachers will be having lots of fun as usual dressing
up as interesting storybook characters.
As you know, the great TVCS Waste Recycling Project (Version 2.0) has
started in earnest this term. Students have been enjoying learning to be
more thoughtful and caring in what to do with their rubbish. Our green
organics and yellow 10 cent deposit bins have been filling up nicely – if
you haven’t seen them already, come and have a look at our colourful
differentiated wheelie bin sets dotted around the school yard. There is
still a lot of waste going into our red landfill bins, though: this is all
(mostly plastic) packaging of student lunches. That’s the next thing we
want to work on: reducing the amount of packaging on student food and
drinks coming into the school. Please consider giving your student a
traditional re-usable lunch box and drink bottle to bring to school, with
minimal packaging of food inside.
We’re also planning some Nude Food days for later in the year (this means that the food itself is nude, i.e. has no
packaging) – stay tuned for more information.
Have a great week, and do enjoy the Olympics. Mrs Prattis will be back soon.

Welcome back students, parents and teachers!
Here we are at the beginning of another term. It must be true when they say time flies when you’re having fun!! From the team at Camp Australia, we hope you have had wonderful holidays and are well-rested and ready for term three! Here at OSHC we are ready and raring to kick off the new term with our Camp Australia kids.
It is great to hear all the chatter around the OSHC room about the fun and exciting things the children did while they were on holi-days. As always, it is a pleasure to catch up with our regular attendees, as well as welcome some new smiling faces in the Be-fore and After School Care sessions this term.
We are very excited about beginning a new term in OSHC. As a group, we have decided that our focus for the term will be “all things living”. A new theme in OSHC means many new and exciting activities and experiences to share and be had. The children attend-ing OSHC this term will be involved in many opportunities to ex-plore and engage in activities in relation to all living things in our environment, with the aim to adopt a better understanding of how we can show respect to all living things and use sustainable practis-es to keep them happy and healthy for years and years to come.
Just to give you an idea of the kinds of activities we have already done, the children have been part of the process of planting our own succulent plants in our OSHC green house. The aim here is to watch our little plants grow and provide them with enough care to keep them happy and healthy so that they can grow into big, strong plants. With the weather being so cold, wet and windy, we wanted to make sure that our feathery friends had a place to cuddle up and stay warm at night so we decided to make some little bird houses using recycled pieces of wood. These are just some of the activities the children in OSHC have be involved with, of course there are many more new and exciting times ahead, so keep an eye out for what’s to come next!
Please do not hesitate to stop by the OSHC room and join in on all the fun we’re having. We also hope to see many more new faces in before and after school care, because there are so many great things to come and we would love to share them with everyone. Don’t forget to stop by in the morning time for a delicious warm breakfast and a bit of a play before school starts. That is all for now, but stay tuned for the next instalment, enjoy the rest of week.

Over the next four weeks at school students will be taken
through all the processes to do with selecting their Elective

share at fruit/snack time. We will also sing animal songs each week.
We hope that you and your children have a great time playing at Playgroup. 9-10:30am Fridays.
