㉿ Zinc hot dip galvanizings
Introduction This Korean Standard has been modified based on KS A 0001 and been prepared by adding corresponding International Standard to normative references.
1 Scope This Korean Standard specifies the significant surface(1) of hot-dipped zinc galvanizing (hereinafter referred to as the “coating”) applied on iron and steel articles except zinc steel sheets and zinc-galvanized iron ⋅ steel wires for the purpose of corrosion proof. Remark (1) The significant surface means the important surface in practical use.
2 Normative references The following referenced documents contain provision which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. These normative references apply the latest version. KS D 0201, Testing methods for hot-dipped zinc coating ISO 1460, Metallic coatings-Hot dip galvanized coating on ferrous materials-Gravimetric determination of the mass per unit area ISO 1461, Hot dip galvanized coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles-Specification and test method 3 Classification The classification of coating shall be as given in Table 1 according to the coating mass and number of copper sulfate tests.

4 Quality 4.1 Appearance The coated surface shall be practically smooth and be free from uncoated surface or other detrimental defects. 4.2 Coating mass and copper sulfate test The coating mass and number of copper sulfate tests shall be in accordance with Table 2.

Note 1 Class HDZ 55 coating shall be applied to base metals having 3.2 mm and over in thickness. When the thickness of the base metal is up to 3.2 mm, it shall be in accordance with the previous agreement between the purchaser and the supplier.
Note 2 The thickness and diameter denoted in the column “example of application” in the above table shall apply each nominal dimension.

4.3 Adhesion The coated film shall have good adhesion to the base metal and be able to withstand without stripping and cracking in normal use. 5 Test 5.1 Sampling Method of Test Piece The sampling method of test piece shall be conducted as follows: a) A representative specimen shall be taken from each lot consisting of products of the same material
that have been coated under the same conditions. A test piece shall be taken from the sampled specimen.
b) When it is practically impossible to cut off a test piece from an assembled product, a test specimen shall be taken from the same material as that used for the product. A test piece shall be made by coating the sampled specimen at the same time as the body.
c) The number of test piece and sampling plan thereof shall be in accordance with the agreement between the purchaser and the supplier.
5.2 Tests for Coating Mass It shall be in accordance with the test method for coating mass specified in KS D 0201. 5.3 Copper sulfate Test It shall be in accordance with the method of copper sulfate test specified in KS D 0201. 5.4 Adhesion Test It shall be in accordance with the method of adhesion test specified in KS D 0201. 6 Inspection The coating shall conform to the requirements specified in clause 4, when tested in accordance with clause 5. Test for coating mass, copper sulfate test, and adhesion test shall be performed by taking test pieces in accordance with sub-clause 5.1. Numbers of test pieces and sampling methods shall comply with the agreement between the purchaser and the supplier. 7 Marking For coated products, the following items shall be marked on the label or invoice (including statement of delivery). a) Symbol indicating the classification of coating b) Date of coating c) Manufacturer’s name or its abbreviation
