CASE STUDY
4.0 Introduction
In this chapter, it will explain more about the case study which is three(3)
foodservices/cafeteria in UiTM Shah Alam. All facilities at each institution in Malaysia
including UiTM Shah Alam need to be managed well by facility management unit who
are responsible to maintain the criteria and function of it facilities. There are a lot of
facilities with different function in one education institution and need a very strong
management to handle those facilities. It is because as a students who live and studies in
universities need a fully facilities for their convenience.
4.1 Universiti Teknologi MARA Shah Alam
Universiti Teknologi MARA is the one of the public education institution for
student started in the November 1956 but in August 1999, our Prime Minister of
Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad changed the name of Institut
Teknologi MARA (ITM) to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). This university which
is main campus located in Seksyen 1, Shah Alam, Selangor as location for education. All
facilities in the university managed by UiTM Facilities Unit including facilities in
hostels, faculties, transportation and so on.
In this research, there are three (3) foodservices/cafeteria of hostels located in
UiTM Shah Alam which is Kolej Anggerik, Kolej Perindu and Kolej Seroja. The details
about foodservices/cafeteria and facilities provided in the foodservices/cafeteria as
below:
4.1.1 Case study 1: Foodservices/cafeteria Kolej Anggerik
Foodservices/cafeteria Kolej Anggerik is the only cafeteria which not
detached with others building which is office, resident blocks and others compared to
cafeteria in Kolej Perindu and Kolej Seroja. It is located in the middle between residential
blocks. Beside that, it is also near to the Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Survey
(FSPU) and Pasukan Latihan Pegawai Simpanan (PALAPES). It is only take about 5
minutes distance with car to the main road of Seksyen 7, Shah Alam which is easily
accessible from cafeteria.
This cafeteria is the one of important facilities towards hostel’s resident because
Kolej Anggerik is a placement for girl students and they are students of Faculty of
Architecture, Planning and Survey. The maximum number of college students in Kolej
Anggerik is about 800 people consisting of 200 students rooms include 6 residential
blocks namely It is become the one of cafeteria that students focus when they want to buy
their foods.
residential blocks , namely Block A1 , A2 , A3 , AB1 , AB2 and AB3 . The charge for a single room is a total of 4 students .
