2.2 EQUIPMENT SAFETY GUIDELINES

2. Inordertoprovideabetterview,certainphotographsorillustrationsinthismanualmayshowanassemblywithasafetyshieldremoved.However,equipmentshouldneverbeusedinthiscondition.Keepallshieldsinplace.Ifshieldremovalbecomesnecessaryforrepairs,replacetheshieldpriortouse.

2.3 SAFETY TRAINING

1. Safetyisaprimaryconcerninthedesignandmanufactureofourproducts.Unfortunately,oureffortstoprovidesafeequipmentcanbewipedoutbyasinglecarelessactofanoperatororbystander.

2. Inadditiontothedesignandconfigurationofequipment,hazardcontrolandaccidentpre-ventionaredependentupontheawareness,concern,prudenceandpropertrainingofpersonnelinvolvedintheoperation,transport,maintenanceandstorageofthisequipment.

3. Ithasbeensaid,"Thebestsafetyfeatureisaninformed,carefulopera-tor."Weaskyoutobethatkindofanoperator.Itistheoperator'sresponsibilitytoreadandunder-standALLSafetyandUsinginstructionsinthemanualandtofollowthese.Accidentscanbeavoided.

4. Working with unfamiliar equipment canlead to careless injuries. Read this manualbefore assembly or using, to acquaintyourself with the machine. If this machineis used by any person other than yourself,or is loaned or rented, it is the machineowner's responsibility to make certain thatthe operator, prior to using:

a. Read and understand the operator'smanuals.

b. Is instructed in safe and proper use.

Trainallnewpersonnelandreviewinstruc-tionsfrequentlywithexistingworkers.Becertainonlyaproperlytrainedandphysicallyablepersonwillusethemachinery.Apersonwhohasnotreadandunderstoodallusingandsafetyinstructionsisnotqualifiedtousethemachine.Anuntrainedoperatorexposeshimselfandbystanderstopossibleseriousin-juryordeath.Iftheelderlyareassistingwiththework,theirphysicallimitationsneedtoberecognizedandaccommodated.

How to Install Safety Signs:

• Besurethattheinstallationareaiscleananddry.

• Besuretemperatureisabove50°F(10°C).

• Determineexactpositionbeforeyouremovethebackingpaper.

• Removethesmallestportionofthesplitback-ingpaper.

• Alignthesignoverthespecifiedareaandcarefullypressthesmallportionwiththeex-posedstickybackinginplace.

• Slowlypeelbacktheremainingpaperandcarefullysmooththeremainingportionofthesigninplace.

• Smallairpocketscanbepiercedwithapinandsmoothedoutusingthepieceofsignbackingpaper.

2.5 PREPARATION

1. Neverusethemachineuntilyouhavereadandcompletelyunderstandthismanual,thetractorOperator'sManualandeachoftheSafetyMessagesfoundonthesafetysignsonthetractorandmachine.

2. Personalpro-tectionequip-mentincludinghardhat,safetyglasses,safetyshoes,andglovesarerec-ommendeddur-ingassembly,installation,operation,adjustment,maintain-ing,repairing,removal,cleaning,ormovingtheunit.Donotallowlonghair,loosefittingclothingorjewellerytobearoundequipment.

3. PROLONGED EXPOSURETO LOUD NOISE MAYCAUSE PERMANENTHEARING LOSS!Powerequipmentwithorwithoutequipmentattachedcanoftenbenoisyenoughtocausepermanent,partialhearingloss.Werecommendthatyouwearhearingprotectiononafull-timebasisifthenoiseintheOperator'spositionexceeds80db.Noiseover85dbonalong-termbasiscancauseseverehearingloss.Noiseover90dbadjacenttotheOperatoroveralong-termba-sismaycausepermanent,totalhearingloss.NOTE:Hearinglossfromloudnoise(fromtractors,chainsaws,radios,andothersuchsourcesclosetotheear)iscumulativeoveralifetimewithouthopeofnaturalrecovery.

4. Clearworkingareaofstones,branchesorhiddenobstaclesthatmightbehookedorsnagged,causinginjuryordamage.

5. Useonlyindaylightorgoodartificiallight.

6. Besuremachineisproperlymounted,adjust-edandingoodoperatingcondition.

7. Ensurethatallsafetyshieldingandsafetysignsareproperlyinstalledandingoodcondi-tion.

2.6 MAINTENANCE SAFETY

1. Goodmaintenanceisyourresponsibility.Poormaintenanceisaninvitationtotrouble.

2. Followgoodshoppractices.

- Keepserviceareacleanand

dry.- Besureelectricaloutletsandtoolsareproperlygrounded.

- Useadequatelightforthejobathand.

3. Makesurethereisplentyofventilation.Neveroperatetheen-gineofthetowingvehicleinaclosedbuilding.Theexhaustfumesmaycauseasphyxiation.

4. Beforeworkingonthismachine,shutofftheengine,setthebrake,andturnfuelvalveoff.

5. Neverworkunderequipmentunlessitisblockedsecurely.

6. Alwaysusepersonalprotectiondevicessuchaseye,handandhearingprotectors,whenperforminganyserviceormaintenancework.Useheavyorleathergloveswhenhandlingblades.

7. Wherereplacementpartsarenecessaryforperiodicmaintenanceandservicing,genuinefactoryreplacementpartsmustbeusedtorestoreyourequipmenttooriginalspecifica-tions.Themanufacturerwillnotberesponsi-bleforinjuriesordamagescausedbyuseofunapprovedpartsand/oraccessories.

8. Afireextinguisherandfirstaidkitshouldbekeptreadilyaccessiblewhileperformingmain-tenanceonthisequipment.

9. Periodicallytightenallbolts,nutsandscrewsandcheckthatallelectricalandfuelconnectionsareproperlysecuredtoensureunitisinasafecondition.

10. Whencompletingamaintenanceorservicefunction,makesureallsafetyshieldsanddevicesareinstalledbeforeplacingunitinservice.

draulicsystemarekeptingoodconditionandareclean.

2. Beforeapplyingpressuretothesystem,makesureallcomponentsaretight,andthatlines,hosesandcouplingsarenotdamaged.

3. Donotattemptanymakeshiftrepairstothehydrauliclines,fittingsorhosesbyusingtapes,clampsorcements.Thehydraulicsys-temoperatesunderextremelyhighpressure.Suchrepairswillfailsuddenlyandcreateahazardousandunsafecondition.

4. Wearproperhandandeyeprotectionwhensearchingforahighpressurehy-draulicleak.Useapieceofwoodorcardboardasabackstopinsteadofhandstoisolateandidentifyaleak.

5. Ifinjuredbyaconcentratedhigh-pressurestreamofhydraulicfluid,seekmedicalatten-tionimmediately.Seriousinfectionortoxicreactioncandevelopfromhydraulicfluidpiercingtheskinsurface.

6. Relievepressureonhydraulicsystembeforemaintainingorworkingonsystem.

4 OPERATION

The3PointHitchWoodChippersaredesignedtochiporchopscraplumber,smalltrees,brush,limbsandotherwooddebris.Thechippedmaterialisfineenoughtobecompostedorusedinavarietyofways.

It is the responsibility of the owner or opera-tor to read this manual and to train all other operators before they start working with the machine. Follow all safety instructions exact-ly. Safety is everyone's business. By follow-ing recommended procedures, a safe working environment is provided for the operator, bystanders and the area around the worksite. Untrained operators are not qualified to use the machine.

4.1 TO THE NEW OPERATOR OR OWNER

4.3 MACHINE BREAK-INAlthoughtherearenooperationalrestrictionsontheWoodChipperwhenusedforthefirsttime,itisrecommendedthatthefollowingmechanicalitemsbechecked:

A. After operating for 1 hour:

1. Torqueallfastenersandhardware.

2. Checkconditionofrotorbearings.

3. Checktheconditionandclearanceofthetwig-breaker,rotorandstationaryblades.Adjustorreplaceasrequired.

4. Checkforentangledmaterial.Removeallentangledmaterialbeforeresumingwork.

5. Lubricateallgreasefittings.

B. After operating for 10 hours:

1. Repeatsteps1through5listedabove.(SectionA)

2. Gotothenormalservicingandmainte-nancescheduleasdefinedintheMainte-nanceSection.

4.4 PRE-OPERATION CHECKLIST

EfficientandsafeoperationoftheWallenstein3PointHitchWoodChipperrequiresthateachoperatorreadsandunderstandstheusingproce-duresandallrelatedsafetyprecautionsoutlinedinthissection.Apre-operationchecklistispro-videdfortheoperator.Itisimportantforboththepersonalsafetyandmaintaininggoodmechanicalconditionthatthischecklistisfollowed.

BeforeoperatingtheWoodChipperandeachtimethereafter,thefollowingareasshouldbecheckedoff:

1. Lubricatethemachineperthescheduleout-lineintheMaintenanceSection.

2. Checktherotor,bladesandtwig-breaker.Removeanytwine,wireorothermaterialthathasbecomeentangled.

3. Checktheconditionandclearanceofthetwig-breaker,rotorandstationaryblades.Adjustorreplaceasrequired.

4. Checkthatallbearingsturnfreely.Replaceanythatareroughorseized.

5. Makesurethatallguardsandshieldsareinplace,securedandfunctioningasdesigned.

6. Checktheconditionofthecurtaininthefeedhopper.Itmustbeingoodconditiontopre-ventchipsfromflyingout.

4.5 DRIVELINE DIMENSIONAPTOdrivelineissuppliedwiththemachine.Toac-companythevarietyof3pointhitchgeometryavailabletoday,thedrivelinecanbetoolongformostmachinesortooshortforothers.Itisveryimportantthatthedrivelinebefreetotelescopebutnottobottomoutwhengo-ingthroughitsworkingrange.Ifthedrivelinebottomsout,thebearingsonboththemachineandtractorPTOshaftwillbeoverloadedandfailinashorttime.

1. To determine the proper length of the drive line,follow this procedure:

a. Cleartheareaofbystanders,especiallysmallchildren.

b. Attachthechippertothetractor(seesection4.8)butdonotattachthedriveline.

c. RaisethemachineuntiltheinputshaftislevelwiththetractorPTOshaft.

d. MeasurethedimensionbetweenthelockinggroovesonthetractorPTOshaftandthemachineinputshaft.

e. Measurethesamedimensionsonthecompresseddriveline.

f. Ifthecompresseddrivelinedimensionexceedsthemachinedimension,thedrivelinewillhavetobecut.

2. When cutting the drive line, follow this procedure:

a. Subtractthemachinedimension(A)fromtheuncutdrivelinedimension(B)or(B-A).Thisdimensiondetermineshowmuchtoolongthedrivelineis.

b. Addanotherinch(25mm)tothedimensiontobesureitdoesn'tbottomout,todetermine(C)thecutoffdimension.

c. Useahacksawtocutdimension(C)frombothends.Cutboththeplastictubesandthemetalcores.

d. Useafiletoremovetheburrsfromtheedgesthatwerecut.

e. Assemblethe2endsoftheshaft.

f. Makesuretheshaftcantelescopefreely.Ifitdoesnot,separatethe2partsandinspectforburrsorcuttingsontheshaftends.Besureittelescopesfreelybeforeinstalling.

Tocheckthetensionandalignment,followthisprocedure:

1. Cleartheareaofbystanders,especiallysmallchildren.

3. Removeguardoverbelt.

5. To adjust belt tension:
