This post talks about the 3 compelling reasons why I took the iOS path to mobile app development.

Going mobile is not a trend. It is now a way of life. Companies can
either embrace it or be left out.
“Your market (and even your employees) will not wait for you."
You've read about this lots of times.
Scary, huh?
![Page 4: 3 reasons why I chose ios](https://reader031.vdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030207/58aa32901a28abbb108b5c23/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
There will be more than 2 billion smartphone
users by 2016, according to eMarketer.
And by 2018, eMarketer estimates, over one-third of consumers worldwide, or more
than 2.56 billion people, will use a
smartphone.

Ok, we heard that loud and clear. There’s a big market out there.
Still a crucial question remains.
What mobile platform do we use?
![Page 6: 3 reasons why I chose ios](https://reader031.vdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030207/58aa32901a28abbb108b5c23/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
For the 2nd quarter of 2015, figures
published by IDC showed Android
capturing 83% of the smartphone market worldwide while iOS garnering only 14%.

With its large user base in a growing market, companies (and
even app developers) tend to gravitate towards the Android world in building their apps.
So why iOS?
![Page 8: 3 reasons why I chose ios](https://reader031.vdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030207/58aa32901a28abbb108b5c23/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
App Annie published that apps downloaded on the Apple App Store
generate far more revenue than those downloaded from
Google Play.
iOS is used by people who really buy apps.

Google Play led in worldwide downloads in Q1 2015 which is
approximately 70% higher than the iOS App Store.
But, iOS App Store’s worldwide revenue
in the same Q1 2015 period was about 70% higher than
Google Play.

iOS users are used to buying apps.
Android users? Well, maybe most of them are just used to freebies.
This is an important factor if you are building business apps.
You don’t like a market that is used to
free apps, do you?
![Page 11: 3 reasons why I chose ios](https://reader031.vdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030207/58aa32901a28abbb108b5c23/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Business apps require a stable and secure OS.
Because it’s open sourced, vendors can customise their
own version of Android.
When a security breach comes up, it is impossible for Google
to send a security patch to these customised versions.

Apple, on the other hand, controls iOS.
So it can just update all their iPhones with a new version to cover any security loophole.
![Page 13: 3 reasons why I chose ios](https://reader031.vdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030207/58aa32901a28abbb108b5c23/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
iOS has a development tool that is mature.
Xcode, the iOS development platform, is
already on version 7.
It is also easy to use compared with Google’s Android Studio, which is
still on its second version.3

We tried both platforms in porting our legacy software and
Xcode is more stable and easier to use than Android Studio. By a long shot.
Steve Job’s obsession to perfection and details permeated even in the tools
that build his beloved apps.

So, there you have it.
In summary, the 3 reasons why I took the iOS path to mobile app
development are :

AboutMeAs a software developer, I have always been interested in learning new things regarding technology. In how I can share what I’ve learned specially to others with professions outside my field.
This interest became a passion as I see a lot of people using technology in their daily lives but have no idea how it works. Much less how it was build. Sadly, almost all of us are mere consumers.
My previous blogs and those to follow will try to convince everybody, in my own small way, to learn how to code. How to become creators of technology.
