True Repentance

Luke 15:17-20

“I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I

have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer

worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men. So he got up and went to

his father…”

1. What is Repentance?

• It is not a feeling but a decision of your will, followed by ordained action.

•Repentance (GK) – a change of mind.

2. Repentance from the Prodigal Son’s Perspective -Luke 15:11-32• This well-known prodigal son made an inner vow to change his outer behavior.

•It was the act of repentance that drove him to prove himself to God, himself, and all those who had been affected by his misbehavior.

A. The Son’s AttitudeFour points that expressed his true repentance:1.He stopped along the way to reflect on his present condition.2.He renewed his mind & decided to ask for a second chance.3.He decided in his own will to go back to his father.4.He made the decision to confess his sins to his father.

B. The Father’s AttitudeThe attitude of the Father:1.He sees the son from afar.2.He is moved with compassion.3.He ran to meet him.4.He has a garment of righteousness prepared.5.He restores the son’s authority.6.He entrusts his son with the biggest ministry.

Conclusion• Everyone who desires to have a

relationship with the Father and enjoy His blessings must have experienced genuine repentance.
