1. Welcome and Thank You Thank you for choosing to help Fife Gingerbread support and empower lone parent,
vulnerable and disadvantaged families in Fife. This is a very special year for Fife Gingerbread
as we celebrate our 30th anniversary since helping our first family and are planning a year of
exciting events that you can get involved in, or alternatively fundraise in a way which is most
meaningful for you. We hope that this pack will provide you with ideas, inspiration and
practical tips to help you make the most out of your Fife Gingerbread fundraising experience.
As all our volunteers and fundraisers are part of the Fife Gingerbread family and we want to
hear from you if you need more help than is provided on these pages, or even if you need a
quick chat, please just get in touch.
2. How Fundraising Can Help The fact that you are reading this perhaps indicates that you may already have an idea of what
we do, who we help and why we do it, however we felt it was important to give you further
in-sight into our work. In the year to November 2016 we directly supported over 1500 families
across Fife to improve their family circumstances and future life chances. The majority of
work takes place within the mid Fife corridor but as you can see from the map below we touch
the lives of families throughout the region.
Two of our families have shared their experiences of Fife Gingerbread so that supporters
better understand the impact of every pound raised and understand the difference it can
make in their lives, their children’s’ and that of their extended families. Names have been
changed.

Tracey
Tracey’s husband had a stroke and as a result his personality changed
dramatically overnight from a caring husband and doting father to a
cruel and violent husband who communicated with his two children by
shouting and throwing things at them. After years of trying to
understand the illness and reason with him Tracy was worn down and
exhausted and had no choice but to take the children and attempt to
start over again in a new area with nothing.
We worked with Tracy to resolve many complexities in her life and to
obtain a new tenancy. We helped her furnish it with second-hand
goods and the bare basics (her husband did not allow her to take as
much as a fork or spoon from the marital home) and our buddies
supported the children to settle at their new school. 2 years on Tracy is
settled but still has a long way to go financially and
emotionally. Currently, we are trying to help her access child
maintenance from her husband. The children are now settled and
attend school regularly and have new friends.
£5 covers the cost of a buddy
to visit an isolated parent
£40 will pay for a counselling session for a person who has experienced domestic abuse.
£134 enables us to train a volunteer to help us deliver projects and support more
disadvantaged families

Emma
Emma’s 3 children were at risk of being taking into care due to
neglect. Emma’s husband had lost his job and the family were sinking
further and further into major debt. Depression had kicked in with
Emma who was comfort eating and growing in size by the month. The
house was worryingly dirty and cold and the children were not
attending school regularly, any food that was available was junk food.
No routines or boundaries were in place and the family were just
surviving the chaos.
Emma’s husband walked out after yet another blazing row and the
situation and outlook for the family was looking dire. Over the last 2
years our support worker has supported Emma to access money advice
and take control of the family situation in terms of routines and
boundaries. The children were connected into family learning fun and
out of school activities and through a package agreed in an action
plan the family are now, finally in a better place. Emma has joined a
slimming club and cycles regularly with the children. Social Work is
satisfied with the children’s progress and that their needs are being met
and have now withdrawn.
£155 covers the costs of a Foodtime Funtime group for
families to learn to cook healthier meals on a budget.
£175 covers the cost of decorating a room for a family living in poverty.
£355 covers the cost of an innovative Pimp My Purse
session which helps families to better manage their
finances.

3. Fundraising for Our 30th Year In 1987, Fife Gingerbread was established to help lone parents in Fife get the support they
needed for their family and since then the organisation has evolved and extended support to
all vulnerable families. We have helped thousands of families through early intervention and
partnership working and are marking this milestone through a programme of special events
– to keep up to date please visit our website www.fifegingerbread.org.uk or follow us on
Facebook (www.facebook.com/FifeGingerbread), Twitter (@FifeGingerbread) or Instagram
(www.instagram.com/FifeGingerbread).
We recognise that the mission to support Fife’s vulnerable families is never accomplished and
with less and less funding available for charities we continue to seek the support of our
communities to continue this work. We hope that you might want to get involved in 2017 to
help us raise a record amount of money…so whether it’s £30, £300, or £3,000 help us make a
difference.
4. Gingey’s Fundraising Favourites Fundraising events should be fun, so choose a fundraising activity that you enjoy; either on
your own, with friends, family or colleagues or why not get your wider community involved.
Gingey has shared his fundraising favourites below to inspire you….
Gingerbread Bake Off Any budding Mary Berrys or Paul Hollywoods out there could get together and have their very own Fife Bake Off and try their hand at creating their very own Gingerbread or Gingerbread House. Remember to let us know who your Star Baker is…
Fancy Dress Instead of dress down Friday why not dress up for Fife Gingerbread instead? Get your colleagues on board and have a competition for the best or funniest costume.
Come Dine with Gingey Why not host a dinner party for friends or colleagues. Just ask that all guests give a donation for their participation.
Quiz Night Are there any contenders
for Mastermind in your community? How about organising a quiz night? We could help you arrange a Fife Gingerbread themed event and provide you with some interesting facts about the organisation, projects, people and history.
A ‘something’althon
If you’re a gym bunny or a regularly attend a fitness class your fitness routine could be a good way to fundraise. Zumbathon, Aerobathon or even a Spinathon….set a time target or maybe see how long you can keep going….
Running You may have plans to get fit in 2017 or finally realise your ambition of running that 5k, 10k or even a marathon! If so, why not give yourself further motivation by getting sponsorship for your event, or make up your own – run to work for a day, week or month.

5. Fundraising Planning Essentials This is perhaps the boring bit but we want all our fundraisers to be safe and comply with
legislation therefore when planning your event please ask yourself the following questions
and then seek appropriate guidance.
- Are we running a raffle which should comply with Gambling Commission
regulations?
- Do I need a license for running an event in a public place, or consent from a
landlord/owner?
- Do I need insurance?
- Is it necessary to carry out a risk assessment?
- If providing food do we comply with relevant Health and Hygiene legislation
If you are unsure about regulations please visit www.institute-of-
fundraising.org.uk/regulation-and-compliance/help-and-advice or get in touch with us at
6. Spread the Word The more people that know about our fundraising efforts the more we can help families and children
in Fife so we’d appreciate if you could tell as many people as possible about your events. This could
mean that you raise more, or it could mean that you encourage more people to get involved.
Don’t worry; you don’t need to be a social media guru to do this…there’s lots of ways you can go about
this.
Social Media - If you have a social media account please post updates and images of your fundraising plans and activities and remember to link to our social media channels: https://www.facebook.com/FifeGingerbreaduse or @FifeGingerbread ….so that we can share it too.
Posters are a good way to get your work colleagues or wider community involved and we can give you templates and a copy of our logo to help promote your activities.
Photos - Remember to take photos on the day and share on social media or send them onto us and we can these in publicity. Please always remember to seek the consent of parents/guardians when taking photographs of children.
