There is an effect on the heart that is unique during hajj. When a person is remembering Allah during the ten days of Dhul Hijjah, it makes the self humble, until he becomes from the mukhbiteen. Who are the mukhbiteen which are mentioned in Surah Al Hajj? It’s mentioned twice in Surah Al Hajj and once in Surah Al Hud. The mukhibiteen is one of the ‘level’s of going to Allah, there are other like hope, ihsan, patience, tawakul, gratitude, and the like. Meaning of () It means quiet, tranquil, humble and no resistance. When a decree comes, people are either accepting or hesitating. At the time of the sacrifice, the animal is resisting, but the moment ‘Bism Allah, Allahu Akbar’ is mentioned the animal surrenders and becomes tranquil. All of us are going to Allah and one of the levels a person hopes to attain in hajj is the level of the mukhbiteen. The mukhbiteen are the ones who are humble and tranquil. The word () is like a fire that’s put off, there’s no noise, sound, or burning after it. When a command comes, it can be like ‘fire’, but what will close it off? () – being tranquil so you don’t reject or are hesitant. You will submit and be at the service of your Lord. The people were noisy as they leaving after ‘Arafah towards Muzdalifah, so Prophet ( ) told them ‘as sakina, as sakina, be tranquil, be tranquil’. After someone has said ( َ َ َ ِ ِ ُ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ ِ َ ُ َ ُ َ ُ ْ ُ ْ ُ َ َ ُ ْ َ ْ َ ُ َ َ َ ُ ٍ ءْ َ ِ َ )(None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, Alone, without partner, to Him belongs all that exists, and to Him belongs the Praise, and He is powerful over all things.) – it’s not suitable to be noisy. Ibn Al Qayim said () is the first level of tranquility. When your heart is in peace and is humble, then your body with people will be tranquil. You will worship Allah with tranquility, submission and humility, subhan Allah. () is a position to get rid of heedlessness. Those who are mukhbiteen are not heedless nor rejecting. Another meaning of mukhbiteen is the one at rest with his Lord as his Caretaker. People around us will leave but it’s important to know Allah will not leave us – ‘Am I not your Lord?’. Wherever we may be, Allah is in charge of our eating, drinking and guidance. When the mukhbiteen are at rest, then they will be kind, soft and tender. They don’t want to break anything. They will not oppress anyone and if they’re under oppression, they will not retaliate or oppress others. They are so content and satisfied because ( َ َ َ ِ ِ ُ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ ِ َ ُ َ ُ َ ُ ْ ُ ْ ُ َ َ

Arafah  Special  –  And  give  glad  tidings  to  the  mukhbiteen

    Introduction

§ When  we  say  ( ُ إإِالَّ إإَِلهھَ الَ َقدِديیرر َشْيءٍ ُكللِّ َعَلى وَوهھھُھووَ ااْلَحْمددُ وَوَلهھُ ااْلُمْلككُ َلهھُ َلهھُ َشرِريیككَ الَ وَوْحدَدههُ هللاَّ )  (None  has  the  right  to  be  worshipped  but  Allah,  Alone,  without  partner,  to  Him  belongs  all  that  exists,  and  to  Him  belongs  the  Praise,  and  He  is  powerful  over  all  things.)  –  then  surely  there  will  be  an  effect  on  the  heart,  subhan  Allah.

§ There   is   an   effect   on   the   heart   that   is   unique   during   hajj.  When   a   person   is   remembering   Allah  during  the  ten  days  of  Dhul  Hijjah,  it  makes  the  self  humble,  until  he  becomes  from  the  mukhbiteen.

§ Who  are  the  mukhbiteen  which  are  mentioned  in  Surah  Al  Hajj?  It’s  mentioned  twice  in  Surah  Al  Hajj  and  once  in  Surah  Al  Hud.

§ The  mukhibiteen  is  one  of  the  ‘level’s  of  going  to  Allah,  there  are  other   like  hope,   ihsan,  patience,  tawakul,  gratitude,  and  the  like.

    Meaning  of

    (خخببتت)

§ It   means   quiet,   tranquil,   humble   and   no   resistance.   When   a   decree   comes,   people   are   either  accepting  or  hesitating.

§ At   the   time   of   the   sacrifice,   the   animal   is   resisting,   but   the  moment   ‘Bism  Allah,   Allahu  Akbar’   is  mentioned  the  animal  surrenders  and  becomes  tranquil.  All  of  us  are  going  to  Allah  and  one  of  the  levels  a  person  hopes  to  attain  in  hajj  is  the  level  of  the  mukhbiteen.

§ The  mukhbiteen  are  the  ones  who  are  humble  and  tranquil.  The  word

(خخببتت)   is  like  a  fire  that’s  put  off,   there’s  no  noise,   sound,  or  burning  after   it.  When  a  command  comes,   it   can  be   like   ‘fire’,  but  what  will  close  it  off?

(خخببتت)   –  being  tranquil  so  you  don’t  reject  or  are  hesitant.  You  will  submit  and  be  at  the  service  of  your  Lord.

§ The   people   were   noisy   as   they   leaving   after   ‘Arafah   towards  Muzdalifah,   so   Prophet   (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)   told  them  ‘as  sakina,  as  sakina,  be  tranquil,  be  tranquil’.

§ After  someone  has  said  ( ُ إإِالَّ إإَِلهھَ الَ َقدِديیرر َشْيءٍ ُكللِّ َعَلى وَوهھھُھووَ ااْلَحْمددُ وَوَلهھُ ااْلُمْلككُ َلهھُ َلهھُ َشرِريیككَ الَ وَوْحدَدههُ هللاَّ )  (None  has  the  right  to  be  worshipped  but  Allah,  Alone,  without  partner,  to  Him  belongs  all  that  exists,  and  to  Him  belongs  the  Praise,  and  He  is  powerful  over  all  things.)    –  it’s  not  suitable  to  be  noisy.

    § Ibn  Al  Qayim  said

(خخببتت)   is  the  first  level  of  tranquility.  When  your  heart  is  in  peace  and  is  humble,  then  your  body  with  people  will  be  tranquil.  You  will  worship  Allah  with  tranquility,  submission  and  humility,  subhan  Allah.

§ (خخببتت)   is   a   position   to   get   rid   of   heedlessness.   Those   who   are  mukhbiteen   are   not   heedless   nor  rejecting.

§ Another  meaning  of  mukhbiteen  is  the  one  at  rest  with  his  Lord  as  his  Caretaker.  People  around  us  will   leave  but   it’s   important  to  know  Allah  will  not   leave  us  –   ‘Am  I  not  your  Lord?’.  Wherever  we  may  be,  Allah  is  in  charge  of  our  eating,  drinking  and  guidance.

§ When  the  mukhbiteen  are  at  rest,  then  they  will  be  kind,  soft  and  tender.  They  don’t  want  to  break  anything.   They  will   not  oppress   anyone  and   if   they’re  under  oppression,   they  will   not   retaliate  or

    oppress  others.  They  are  so  content  and  satisfied  because  ( ُ إإِالَّ إإَِلهھَ الَ وَوَلهھُ ااْلُمْلككُ َلهھُ َلهھُ َشرِريیككَ الَ وَوْحدَدههُ هللاَّ

Who  are  the  mukhbiteen  in  Surah  Al  Hajj?

(God  —  Allâh),  so  you  must  submit  to  Him  Alone  (in  Islâm).  And  (O  Muhammad

(ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص   give  glad  tidings  to  the  Mukhbitun  [those  who  obey  Allâh  with  humility  and  are  humble  from  among  the  true  believers

    of  Islâmic  Monotheism],)

    Ayah  35  –  ( ُ ذُذِكررَ إإذَِذاا ٱٱلَّذِذيیننَ ِبرِريیننَ قُلوُوُبهُھممۡ وَوِجَلتتۡ ٱٱ#َّ ـٰ َلوٰوةةِ وَوٱٱۡلُمقِيیِمى أأََصاَبُہممۡ َمآ َعَلىٰ وَوٱٱلصَّ ا ٱٱلصَّ هُھممۡ وَوِممَّ ـٰ يُینفِقُووننَ رَرزَزۡقَن )  (Whose  hearts  are  filled  with  fear  when  Allâh  is  mentioned;  and  As-‐Sabirun  [who  patiently  bear  whatever  may  befall  them  (of  calamities);  and  who  perform  As-‐Salât  (Iqâmat-‐as-‐Salât),  and  who  spend  (in  Allâh's  Cause)

out  of  what  We  have  provided  them.)

§ Allah  commanded  Ibrahim  (as)  to  sacrifice  his  son,  what  did  he  do?  He  submitted.  Ibrahim  (as)  saw  in  a  dream  to  slaughter  his  son  and  he  went  to  him  and  told  him.  So  the  son  said,  ‘do  whatever  you  are  commanded?’.  These  are  mukhbiteen.

§ When  both  of  them  surrendered,  Allah  told  him  ‘you  have  fulfilled  the  dream’  and  it  was  replaced  with  a  ram.  So  alhamdulilah  we  don’t  have  to  sacrifice  our  children.

§ Our  ilah  is  One,  the  One  Whom  we  should  struggle  for  and  head  towards.  When  we  need  anything,  we  should  go  to  Him  with  devotion.

§ Give  glad  tidings  to  the  mukhbiteen  who  surrender.  Who’s  the  one  who  will  be  happy   in   life?  The  one  who  surrenders  to  Allah.

What  are  the  characteristics  of  the  mukhbiteen?

§ (( ُ ذُذِكررَ إإذَِذاا ٱٱلَّذِذيیننَ قُلوُوُبهُھممۡ وَوِجَلتتۡ ٱٱ#َّ )   (Whose   hearts   are   filled  with   fear  when  Allâh   is  mentioned;):  when  Allah   is  mentioned,  their  hearts  are   immediately  affected.  Not  everyone  when  they  hear  Allah  are  affected,  subhan  Allah.

(وَوِجللَ )   is  fear  which  makes  a  person  stand  and  follow.  With  the  remembrance  of  Allah,  the  hearts  find  rest.  Why  do  the  hearts  find  rest?  Because  when  you  remember  Allah,  He  remembers  you,  subhan  Allah.  Angels  come  to  the  places  where  people  gather  to  remember  Allah  so  the  tranquility  descends  upon  them.  The  more  there  are  angels,  the  more  tranquil  the  place  will  be,  but  the  more  shayateen  in  a  place,  the  louder  it  will  be.

§ ( ِبرِريیننَ ـٰ أأََصاَبُہممۡ َمآ َعَلىٰ وَوٱٱلصَّ )   (and   As-‐Sabirun   [who   patiently   bear   whatever   may   befall   them   (of  calamities);):  when  anything  befalls  them  from  sickness,  people  wronging  them  or  situations,  they  face   it  with  tranquility.  They  will   take   it  with  goodness  because  their  heart   is   in  peace.  They  know  Allah  wants  all  the  good  for  them;  He  doesn’t  want  to  break  them.  When  someone  is  impatient  then  you  will  find  him  restless.  We  have  a  Lord  Whose  all  actions  are  blessed,  He  is  The  Most  Kind,  He  will  never  leave  us.  There  might  be  waves  around  them  but  they’re  patient  and  still.

§ ( َلوٰوةةِ وَوٱٱۡلُمقِيیِمى ٱٱلصَّ )  (and  who  perform  As-‐Salât  (Iqâmat-‐as-‐Salât),):  they  establish  the  prayer,  and  their  enjoyment  is  heavenly.  The  nafs  is  the  most  honorable  thing  we  have  and  they  establish  the  prayer.  There   was   a   Companion   who   needed   to   have   his   leg   cut,   and   he   told   them   there’s   no   need   for  anesthesia,  but  when  he  prays  then  they  can  cut  his  leg.  What  is  this  connection  that  makes  his  body  numb?  Subhan  Allah.  The  entertainment  and  joy  for  them  is  to  be  at  Allah’s  service.  They’re  in  such  tranquility  that  they  don’t   feel  any  pain,  subhan  Allah.  The  more  you  scream  and  shout,   the  more  pain  you’ll  feel.

§ ( ا هُھممۡ وَوِممَّ ـٰ يُینفِقُووننَ رَرزَزۡقَن )   (and  who  spend   (in  Allâh's  Cause)  out  of  what  We  have  provided   them.):   the  mukhbiteen   serve   society   and   others.   They   think   about   the   poor   and   needy.   They   sacrifice  themselves   in   prayer   and   they   sacrifice   their   money   for   others.   The   mukhbiteen   are   quiet   but  they’re  productive.

§ Everyone  in  hajj  is  waiting  for  the  Day  of  Arafah  and  after  a  big  moment,  a  person  wants  to  be  loud,  but   the   Prophet   (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)   said   ‘as   sakina   as   sakina,   be   tranquil   be   tranquil’.   We   want   to   have  tranquility.   In   a   study   circle,   dhikr   should   affect   us   and   grant   us   tranquility.   Allah   doesn’t   accept  those   who   arrogant.   Paradise   is   forbidden   upon   those   who   are   arrogant.   The   opposite   of   the  mukhbiteen  are  the  arrogant  ones.  The  arrogant  ones  are  mentioned  in  Surah  Hud.

    Who  are  opposite  the  mukhbiteen?

    Surah  Hud  18-‐23:

    Ayah  18  –  ( ِ َڪذِذًبا نِن ٱٱۡفَترَرىٰى َعَلى ٱٱ(َّ هِھممۡ ۚوَوَمنۡن أأَظۡظَلمُم ِممَّ ٓؤُؤَالِٓء ٱٱلَّذِذيینَن َكذَذُبوواْا َعَلٰى رَربِّ ـٰ دُد هھھَھ ـٰ هِھمۡم وَويَیقُووللُ ٱٱۡألَۡشهَھ ىٕٓىِكَك يُیۡعرَرُضوونَن َعَلٰى رَربِّ ـٰ أأََال َلۡعَنُة ۚ أأوُْوَللِِميیننَ ـٰ ِ َعَلى ٱٱلظظَّ (ٱٱ/َّ  (And  who  does  more  wrong  than  he  who  invents  a  lie  against  Allâh.  Such  will  be  brought  before  their  Lord,  and  the  witnesses  will  say,  "These  are  the  ones  who  lied  against  their  Lord!"  No  doubt!  the  curse  of  Allâh  is  on  the  Zâlimûn  (polytheists,  wrong-‐doers,  oppressors))

themselves  (in  repentance  and  obedience)  before  their  Lord,  -‐  they  will  be  dwellers  of  Paradise  to  dwell  therein  forever.)

§ Efficiency  is  not  with  sound,  a  person  shouldn’t  mistake  efficiently  with  motion.  The  mukhbiteen  are  productive  but  they’re  quiet  and  silent.  They’re  fulfilling  the  rights  of  the  Allah  and  the  rights  of  the  people  quietly.

§ We’re  not  here  in  this  life  to  steal  and  snatch  from  the  people.  Those  opposite  the  mukhbiteen  are  the  arrogant  ones  who  are  stopping  others  from  the  way  to  Allah.  They  want  to  make  the  path  to  Allah  crooked,  astaghfar  Allah.  Such  people  can  never  disable  Allah  from  reaching  them,  so  where  can   they   run?   Subhan   Allah.   Never   misuse   the   blessings   of   Allah   –   money,   spouse,   children   and  knowledge  –  by  being  rebellious  and  arrogant.

§ They  think  by  their  hands  they  can  be  successful,  but  the  mukhbiteen  are  the  winners.  Verily  those  who   believed,   did   good   deeds   and   surrendered   to   their   Rabb   to   all   the   decrees   and   commands,  these  are  the  dwellers  of  paradise,  abiding  there  forever.

§ After  hajj,  we  should  come  out  as  mukhbiteen  –  it  will  solve  the  ego  issue,  it’s  not  about  ‘I’  but  ‘we’.  After  ‘Arafah,  everyone  comes  out  as  one  body.  Hajj  is  teaching  us  to  not  be  proud  and  selfish,  we  can’t  want  others  to  go  according  to  our  program.  We  need  to  be  accommodating  and  thinking  of  others.

§  The   mukhbiteen   will   never   transgress   their   boundaries   or   violate   the   rules.   They’re   respecting  themselves  and  the  rules.  Who’s  making  problems?  Arrogant  ones  and  those  with  ego.

§ The  mukhbiteen  are  very  efficient,  they  know  when  to  go,  when  to  stop,  what  to  say,  what  not  to  say,  they  think  of  the  consequences  before  speaking.

    Those  given  knowledge  and  mukhbiteen

    Surah  Al  Hajj  54:

the  Guide  of  those  who  believe,  to  the  Straight  Path.)
