1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Scope of the Manual This instruction manual explains the installation and interconnection of the 32-0-10A Fuse Panel by Argus Technologies.

1.2 Product Overview The Argus 32-0-10A Fuse Panel (see Figure 1) was designed for use in any DC power supply system that has outputs of 24VDC or 48VDC and where the applica-tion requires from 1 to 32 alarm-equipped fused outputs ranging from 0A to 15A us-ing GMT type miniature fuses.

The panel comes with fuse alarm indicator lights and isolated alarm relays with jumper selectable Form A/B contacts. Panel options available include dual feed1 and ground terminations.

Compatible with other Argus equipment–every Argus fuse panel is designed to fit into standard 19” or 23” relay racks and to completely integrate with other Argus power products.

2 INSPECTION 2.1 Packing Materials All Argus products are shipped in rugged, double-walled boxes and suspended via solid polyurethane foam inserts to minimize shock that may occur during transporta-tion. Packaging assemblies and methods are tested to National Safe Transit Associa-tion standards.

Products are also packaged with Cortex. This plastic wrap contains a corrosive in-hibitor that protects the system from corrosion for up to two years.

2.1.1 Returns for Service

Save the original shipping container. If the unit needs to be returned for service, it should be packaged in its original shipping container. If the original container is un-available, make sure the unit is packed with at least three inches of shock-absorbing material to prevent shipping damage. Argus Technologies is not responsible for damage caused by the improper packaging of returned units.

2.2 Check for Damage Prior to unpacking the equipment, note any damage to the shipping container. Un-pack the equipment and inspect the exterior for damage. If any damage is observed contact the carrier immediately.

Continue the inspection for any internal damage. In the unlikely event of internal damage please inform the carrier and contact Argus Technologies for advice on the impact of any damage.

STOP HERE

Verify that you have all the necessary parts per your order for the proper assembly of your system.

3 INSTALLATION This section is provided for qualified personnel to install the 32-0-10A Fuse Panel.

3.1 Safety Precautions

WARNING

Hazardous voltages are present at the input of the rectifier systems. The DC output from the rectifiers and the battery system though not dangerous in voltage has a high short circuit current capacity that may cause severe burns and electrical arcing.

Before working with any live battery or power system/distribution center the follow-ing precautions should be followed:

Remove all metallic jewelry; e.g. watches, rings, eyeglasses, necklaces.

Safety glasses with side shields must be worn at all times.

Metallic tools must be factory insulated or insulated using the following method:

1. Apply one layer of half-lapped rubber splicing tape

2. Cover the rubber splicing tape with two half-lapped layers of vinyl tape

Installer should follow all applicable local rules and regulations for electrical and bat-tery installations; i.e. CSA, UL, CEC, NEC, and local fire codes.

3.2 Tools Required • Philips head screwdriver, #3 (tip size ¼”) • Slot head screwdriver (blade size ⅛”) • Cutters and wire strippers (#14 to #22 AWG) [0.34 to 2.5 mm2] • Digital voltmeter equipped with test leads.

3.3 Preparation/Mounting The 32-0-10A Fuse Panel occupies a single vertical rack space. The rack mounting “ears” may be center or flush mounted (see Outline Drawing 020-103-06) in a 19” or 23” EIA standard relay rack.

Orientate the ears as desired and secure the Fuse Panel to the rack using two #12-24x½” screws on each side. A captive type of drive, such as the Philips head, is pre-ferred to reduce the possibility of slippage and scratching of the unit’s exterior.

The Fuse Panel must

be mounted in a clean

and dry environment.

4 WIRING This chapter provides cabling details and notes on cable sizing for DC application with respect to the Argus 32-0-10A Fuse Panel.

4.1 Calculating Wire Size Requirements The cable chosen for use in power plant applications not only has to meet the re-quirements of the electrical code for ventilated cable tray installations, ampacity and cable type. The cable size must also be carefully selected to ensure minimum voltage drop across its length when fully loaded. Keeping the voltage drop to a minimum insures maximum back-up time and best performance when the system is operating on battery.

The formula below can be used to calculate the cable size using typical voltage drop recommendations for Telecom installations.

CMA = (A x LF x K) / AVD, where: CMA = Cross section of wire in circular MIL area A = Ultimate drain in amps LF = Conductor loop feet K = 11.1 constant factor for commercial (TW type) copper wire AVD = Allowable voltage drop

Check again that the ampacity rating of the cable meets the requirement for the in-stallation application. Consult local electrical codes (NEC, CEC, etc.) for guidelines. If required, increase the size of the cable to meet the code.

4.2 Load Fuse Connections Each load fuse corresponds to a unique numbered position on the load distribution terminal blocks located at the rear of the unit (see Figure 2). Outline Drawing 020-103-06 shows the numbering, front and rear.

Also refer to guidelines supplied with the load equipment. Typically distribution ca-bles are sized to provide a 0.5V loop drop at full load as well as meeting ampacity requirements of the protection fuse or circuit breaker.

WARNING Wiring of fuse connections should not exceed more than maximum total current capacity. See specifica-tions section in this manual.

The panel is equipped with a #6-32x⅜” pan head screw at each termination. Connect “hot” leads to the corresponding numbered terminals and common leads to the ground bar.

4.3 Input Feed Each input feed corresponds with position A or B on terminal block TB1 located at the rear of the unit (see Figure 3 and schematic 020-103-05).

WARNING Ensure the correct polarity is used for all input cable terminations.

The panel is equipped with a #10-32x½” pan head screw at each termination and on the ground bar. Connect “hot” leads to the corresponding terminals and common leads to the ground bar.

4.4 Alarms All alarms provide jumper selectable Form A/B alarm contacts, which correspond with terminal blocks located at the rear of the unit (see Figure 3).

All applicable alarms should be connected to the local alarm-sending unit from the fuse panel. Terminal blocks can accommodate wire sizes 0.34 to 2.5 mm2 (#22 to #14 AWG).

5 ADJUSTMENTS 5.1 GMT Fuse Replacement Distribution fuses may be removed from the unit using an insulated hook. Check load and ensure correct fuse type and size before replacement.

5.2 Alarm Jumper Setting The alarm relay contacts can be individually set to Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC) by positioning jumpers located inside the unit (see Figure 4). The fac-tory default setting is Normally Open (NO).

Argus Numbering System Argus Technologies uses an eight-digit drawing number system, which is broken into three blocks. The first three digits describe the category of the product; e.g. rectifier or fuse panel. The next three digits indicate the sequence in which the product number was allocated in a particular category. The last two digits indicate the type of drawing; for example:

“-05” Schematic

“-06” Outline Drawing

“-20” Main Assembly

Argus uses an eight-digit part numbering system for all components and sub-assemblies. Each part has been assigned its own unique number. Due to the quantity, categories will not be listed within this manual.
