What is steel ?

Steel is an alloy of IRON & CARBON, with Si, Mn, S, P in very small amount & where percentage of Carbon is less than 2.14%.

What is stainless steel ?

It is an high alloy steel which contain more than 10-12% Cr and often Ni, Mo, Cu, W, V as per Grade.

Scrap Yard:

Type of scrap:

1. Bundle Scrap2. Shredded Scrap3. Loose Scrap

Shredded Scrap are called quality Scrap as it required less time for melting.

According to their production:1. Home scrap or internal scrap: End cutting of billet, wire

rod, skull, turning from forging, fastener, end cutting of profile etc.

2. Obsolete scrap: automobile hulks, old farm equipment, and major home appliances.

3. Industrial Scrap: The automotive industry creates most industrial scrap.

Shredded Scrap

Scrap yard has a shredder machine which has capacity of around 50 Mt /Hr.

This machine can take scrap which has thickness not more than 4 mm.

Induction Heating

Working Principle of I/F: Induction furnace consist of an annular channel surrounding a

core of laminated iron sheets.

This core is surrounded by a primary coil and molten metal act as a secondary winding.

A low frequency AC power source is used to run the furnace and heat generation depends on the frequency of AC power supply.

Refractory lining: High Al₂O₃ which is called ramming mass.

Life of refractory lining: 80-100 heats. After that patching is done and again it run up to 60-70 heats.

Tap To Tap Time : Around 2 hour or 120 Min (avg).

Heat is tapped in to a ladle and transferred to AOD vessel.
