Exhibitions & Events Summer/Autumn 2013 Swansea Museum Open Tuesday - Sunday 10am – 5pm (last admission 4.40pm) Closed Mondays except Bank Holiday Mondays FREE ENTRY Exhibitions 18 June – 1 September Inside Welsh Homes Gallery One This touring exhibition from the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales offers a unique glimpse inside Welsh homes through the ages. The exhibition showcases archival images of Welsh homes ranging from the humblest cottages and urban terraces to the grandest of country houses. A selection of the museum’s furniture and domestic collections will bring these fascinating images to life. 9 July – 3 November “Journeys” by Contexart Long Gallery Contexart is an established group of textiles artists based in Swansea. The group continuously develops new ideas and projects to bring textile art to the wider public. This new exhibition explores the artist’s personal interpretation of journeys through textiles. 6 September – 29 September Swansea Studios @Swansea Museum Gallery One This exhibition comprises of a selection of work from Swansea Studios artists. Swansea Studios are located in the upper floors of the old Oscar Chess building, now the Dylan Thomas Theatre, in the Maritime Quarter of Swansea. Formed in 1979, Swansea Studios provides thirteen studios to artists on a long term basis, within a lively, supportive and dynamic working environment. The group, which reflects the diversity of artists and practices in Swansea, forms an integral part of the artistic community. Currently there are ten visual artists, including a ceramicist and five glass artists occupying the studios. 12 November – 2 February (2014) “Who do you think you are?” with Pen-y-Bryn School Long Gallery Pupils of Pen-y-Bryn school have created this vibrant exhibition by delving in to the lives of their relatives. The display explores the working lives of a range of Swansea men and women from dock workers to soldiers, shop workers to bus drivers. Come and explore the jobs they did, the clothes they wore and the food they ate in this family friendly exhibition. Pen-y-Bryn school, which has a unit for autistic pupils, educates pupils, aged 3-19, who have a wide range of additional learning needs. The exhibition follows the story of Wallace’s life from his childhood in Usk to his working life in South Wales and his eventual explorations in the Amazon and Indonesia. Stiwdios Abertawe @Amgueddfa Abertawe Oriel UnMae'r arddangosfa hon yn cynnwysdetholiad o waith gan artistiaidstiwdio Abertawe. Mae StiwdiosAbertawe ar loriau uchaf henadeilad Oscar Chess, sef TheatrDylan Thomas bellach, yn ArdalForol Abertawe. Mae StiwdiosAbertawe, a ffurfiwyd ym 1979, yn darparu tair ar ddeg o stiwdios iartistiaid am gyfnod tymor hir mewn amgylchedd gwaith bywiog,cefnogol a dynamig. Mae'r grwp, sy'n adlewyrchu amrywiaeth oartistiaid ac arferion yn Abertawe, yn rhan hanfodol o'r gymunedartistig. Ar hyn o bryd mae deg artist gweledol, gan gynnwysseramegydd a phum artist gwydr yn defnyddio'r stiwdios.
