Background: Lán was never alive, and so she never died. That one little statementhas been the most important fact of her existence. It is unfortunate that her mother died before the end of the first trimester. Perhaps, if had more time to develop, the demons would have noticed her soul growing within her mothers...but it was not to be. As her mother had no living relatives, Lán first sight was the prison of the Ninth Court. Naturally the `birth' of a soul-child within Di Yu caused quite a stir. As she had not been judged by the First Court, that became the first order of business, however when they presented her to the Mirror of Recollection another unprecedented event happened: Nothing. The Mirror did not acknowledge her as a soul to be judged. The next question to be raised was how this was possible. As her birth had occurred under Du Shi Wang's watch, Yan Luo little choicebut give responsibility to him to figure this all out. In the mean time Lán was placed in the custody of Du Shi Wang and was to be `babysat' by all of the `Wangs'. It wa just before Du Shi Wang's return that the Titian's escaped. In that moment of crisi

s Du Shi Wang revealed that Lán's true father was a living demigod scion of Odin and he parleyed that information into a special emergency shen transformation of one of his subjects...Lán. However, he chose to make her a flesh-andblood scion, despite her knowing nothing of the living world beyond the hearsay in the hells. In fact, a tutorial was necessary to teach her many things that normal people take for granted, like how to eat, sleep and breathe. Naturally this tutorial was handled by the demons that run the various hells and courts. Once she learned thebasics, Lán was given her `Birthrights' and sent out on her mission: recapture the escapees.
